ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® (LLS) exists to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients. Today, LLS is the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to finding cures for leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and all other blood cancers. LLS’s commitment to research has contributed to an unprecedented rise in survival rates for patients with many blood cancers. Survival rates for blood cancers have doubled, tripled and even quadrupled since the 1960s. Despite these advances, about one third of patients with a blood cancer still do not survive even five years after their diagnosis, which is why more funding is needed to bring better therapies to patients, and faster.
LLS is changing the landscape of blood cancer. Someday is today.
Thanks to the generous corporations that support LLS’ mission of living in a world free of blood cancer, we have been able to invest nearly a billion dollars in research funding in the past 65 years. Supporters of LLS have the opportunity to customize the various sponsorship levels we have available to correspond with the organization’s marketing and branding needs. Your support will make a difference, and on behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, we thank you.
With the funds raised, the Nebraska Chapter of LLS can continue to support groundbreaking research, clinical trials and provide cancer patients and their families with support in 94 counties across the Nebraska Market, Pottawattamie County, IA, and the Midwest Region.
HOW YOUR DOLLARS HELP OTHERS
Research: Since 1949, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has invested more than $1 billion to find cures and fund innovative research to advance more breakthrough therapies. Locally, two active research grants are being supported with funding of $795,000 at Nebraska Medicine. Throughout the Midwest Region, we have a total of 51 active research grants supported by approximately $39 million in funding.
Education & Services: LLS serves as the leading source of information on blood cancers through the LLS Information Resource Center, an extensive collection of free educational materials, professional education, and an award- winning web site. LLS provides a range of services including family support groups, peer-to-peer support for newly diagnosed patients, educational programs, and co-pay assistance. In 2015, the Nebraska Chapter provided critical services to patients, including over $220,000 in co-pay assistance to help relieve financial burdens for 93 patients. There have been more than twenty educational programs hosted by LLS in our Region, and more than three hundred families have been connected to a peer for support. Advocacy:
Critical challenges remain in the development of new treatments and cures. LLS’s Office of Public Policy, along with local volunteers, advocates for accelerated development and approval of better therapies and quality care through legislation.
ABOUT BLOOD CANCERS: • More than one million Americans currently have a blood
cancer.
• Blood cancers are the number three cancer killer.
• Every 3 minutes, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with a blood cancer.
• Every 10 minutes, someone loses their battle with blood cancer.
• Leukemia is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children and young adults under the age of 20.

WHO PARTICIPATES
Candidates for Man & Woman of the Year are extraordinary people. They are individuals from both the social and business communities who are relentless in their efforts to find cures for blood cancers, and are well-connected in their communities.
GRAND FINALE
Sponsors, candidates, campaign teams, friends, family, survivors, and other LLS supporters will gather for an evening of cocktails, food, music, a silent auction, and announcement of winners. In 2016, more than 300 people in Nebraska attended the Grand Finale celebration to honor the 12candidates who comprised the class of 2016. In 2017, attendance is expected to be more than 400 guests to honor an anticipated 12 candidates. Man & Woman of the Year takes place each spring in cities across North America. Nebraska’s Grand Finale will take place on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the Embassy Suites, La Vista.
The goal of 2016 Man & Woman of the Year is to raise $325,000 to help cure blood cancer and ensure patients get access to the best treatments.
MWOY PARTNERSHIP
MWOY, one of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) largest fundraising campaigns, offers the opportunity for businesses large and small to build strong rapport with their customers and prospective patrons.
PARTNERSHIP BENEFITS
Forging a partnership with LLS offers an organization the opportunity to support a great cause and mission. The benefits of partnership provide broad-reaching opportunities: Brand Recognition and Goodwill By selecting this highly-customized sponsorship package, your brand will be associated with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission and the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services.
Promotion of Company Products and Services By partnering with LLS, an organization’s brand, as well as their products and services can be promoted (with prior approval) across a broad service area including the Omaha and/or Lincoln metro areas. Team Building and Enhancement of Employee Morale
Nominating a MWOY Candidate and building a campaign team brings people together across an organization to work as a team for a common goal. As teams rally to make a difference, many people involved will have a personal connection to a blood cancer diagnosis through a family member, friend, business colleague, or oneself. Partnering with LLS to “give back” to people and communities inspires all those who become involved increasing employee morale.
WHAT IS MAN & WOMAN OF THE YEAR? Man & Woman of the Year is The Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society’s spirited 10-week fundraising competition in which participants build fundraising team to compete for the title of Man or Woman of the Year. They raise funds for LLS blood cancer research in honor of local children who are blood cancer survivors, the Boy & Girl of the Year. Every dollar raised counts as one vote. The campaign commences with a Kickoff Party and culminates at the Grand Finale celebration.
