Seeing a sea of blue shirts and $sraeli flags march through the .rbeit Macht rei gate at .uschwit01

What impact did 2oland have on you?

$ feel sad that a culture that e-isted for centuries is no longer there1 $ feel empowered that the "a0is did

not succeed in wiping out a people1

What impact did $srael have on you?

$srael was upside for everything in 2oland1

ow were you impacted by the overall e-perience?$ was comforted by sharing this e-perience with others who understood and supported where $ was

coming from1

What else would you li3e to share about your e-perience?$ swore that $ would never ever set foot in 2oland 44 but $ am now so glad to have been able to wal3 where

my parents once wal3ed and see sites that they once saw 44 but $ was seeing everything from the

comfortable vantage point of 3nowing that the "a0is lost1

$ can close my eyes and still see myself holding barbed wire or running my fingers along the concrete

walls inside the shower rooms1

!here are many but the most powerful were standing in .uschwit0 3nowing that my father and his

siblings were there: visiting !reblin3a: where many of my relatives were murdered and wal3ing in the

forest1


<eing in 2oland ma3es you appreciate the need for $srael=s e-istence more than traveling to $srael1 $ was

also ta3en by the lac3 of responsibility on the part of the 2olish people 4 they blame the Germans or the

Communists1


>ur delegation did not continue to $srael because of time constraints1 $ see the need for going to $srael

especially for the students1


$=m still processing it1 <ut what really impressed me was the enormity of .uschwit0 and Ma;dane3 andthe systematic well thought out process the "a0is implemented1

!he March itself and the presentations in <ir3rnau were touching: empowering and beautiful1

What impact did 2oland have on you?isiting the camps: ghetto sites: mass graveyards and synagogues allowed me to 3now my murdered

cousins and mourn for them1 $t also empowers he to wor3 in the community so that "ever .gain is a

meaningful action term not a slogan only1


$ have not gone to $srael as part of M>!L1




$mmensely1 $t changed my life and brought me bac3 to my 6udaism and to reform observance1 $ became

an adult bat mit0vah1 $ cannot @uantify how much M>!L transformed my heart and my life1

7ach camp was a different e-perience1 .s a young adult: the most impressive e-perience was loo3ing atthe irony of the trip1 !he sun was shining: the birds were chirping and the towns people we saw were

busy carrying out their lives1 $t was easy to see how the horrors could happen so close to their homes1


$ made aliyah a few years later1 $ decided that $srael was the only place to raise my children1

Wal3ing and tal3ing with people from all over the world sharing this common bond of love and tolerance

and "77B .G.$"


$ saw a country that has more room without the millions who are not here anymore1 $ saw too manymemorials that said the people who died here not mentioning the 6ewish people who perished1 $ saw

more dogs with couples than children so $ don=t see a growing population1 $ also didn=t see the

homeless population that $ see in "%C so often1 $ e-perienced an anti4Semitic rant by an old

women and a sign held up by a few nuns that said we apologi0e1 My heart and mind is still processing it

all1


$ L>7 $srael with all its wonders and faults1 $=m a ionist all the way but $ did not go to $srael after the

March this year1 &<ut $ have traveled there many times'




$=m so glad $ went and will tal3 about it to all $ encounter1


$=m so proud to be a 6ew and this trip reinforced it , million times1
