Charlene works with the Australian Government as a planner for the second Sydney Airport project and is responsible for planning land use issues and running environmental impact assessments on noise, heritage and transport. Prior to this, she worked on the Australian Government‘s Northern Australia White Paper and advised on labour, migration, infrastructure and planning issues. Last year she was awarded the ‘National Young Planner of the Year’ award by the Planning Institute of Australia

Marcel studies Business Administration and Business Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. He has previously held positions as a Project Manager, led cross media and newspaper campaigns and worked in the Sales and Business Development department at a start-up. Marcel participated as a Delegate and Conference Ambassador in the Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations at Harvard University in 2016. He also volunteers actively at local fire departments.

Sohara works with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bangladesh to promote environmental sustainability and development. She also leads the South Asia hub of Climate Tracker, the world‘s largest network of youth journalists and activists working to promote environmental awareness. Furthermore, Sohara is the Vice-Curator of the Dhaka Hub of Global Shapers.

Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation. Previously he worked as a Political Advisor at the European Union Delegation to the United Nations in New York. Olivier has participated in international youth conferences where he addressed international relations and economic development topics. Olivier also works as the Managing Director of The Belgian Leadership Project, a programme that connects talented youth across the country by exposing them to different professional sectors. During his studies, Olivier specialised in violence and secession. He holds an M.A. in International Conflict Studies from King‘s College London and a B.Sc. in International Politics from Brunel University.

Dessislava currently attends the RWTH Aachen University as a Ph.D. exchange student from the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy in Bulgaria. Andrea’s main interest lies in aircraft financing and structured finance, specifically in the financing of big infrastructure projects such as highways and railways.

Qiqi currently pursues her Master‘s in China Studies with a concentration in Chinese diplomacy at the Yenching Academy in Peking University. She also interns at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in China where she focuses on “One Belt, One Road” initiatives and the G20, projects that serve to promote global connectivity. Qiqi previously interned at Xinhua News Agency where she reported and edited news on the second-child policy and the trade promotion meetings between China and Central and Eastern European countries.

Minea has been a Research Assistant at the Institute of Water Policy, a Research Coordinator at The Office of Council of Ministers in Cambodia, and a Research Intern at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Cambodia. His research is primarily focused on Industrial Policy and Infrastructure Development. Minea studied Business Management at Tianjin University in China before he pursued his Master’s in Public Policy at the National University of Singapore.

Petr is a PhD student at the University of Pardubice, the Czech Republic. Having finished two bachelor degrees - Railway Vehicles and Transport Structures - and a master degree in the latter, he has a broad overview of many aspects of transportation including transport technology and management. He also completed a short internship at a transport logistics company in Finland. Apart from his studies, Petr has been a long-time member of a voluntary student organization – Erasmus Student Network (ESN) Pardubice.

He holds two Master’s degrees in Biomedical Engineering (Neurotechnology) and Engineering in Mathematical Modelling & Computation. Besides this, Maxim has accumulated work experience in other areas such as management consulting through his work as an Analyst in Valcon A/S; diplomacy through his work as an Economic Research Analyst at the Royal Danish Consulate General in St. Petersburg; and in energy services as the Co-founder of a tech start-up focusing on the transition from fossil fuelled electricity to green based alternatives with a particular focus on solar power.

Andrea has co-founded two start-ups, “CUBIK-S”, a communication agency, and “INCUBO STRATEGIES”, a strategic consultancy. She is also an active member of the Cypriot Enterprise Link, Women Entrepreneurship Dear and Global Shapers. Andrea holds a Music Studies degree from Athens University, and is trained in public relations and communications. She has established a strong presence in the Cypriot social sector through her leadership in initiatives as the Fsyco project and the 180 Moires (180º) Social Enterprise.

She holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Economics and has gained international exposure in Denmark, Spain and Kenya. She has worked with an ethical trade NGO in the energy sector and at a chemical regulation consultancy.

Damien has worked in Cambodia, France, Mexico and the United Kingdom. Throughout his studies and career he has connected audio-visual storytelling with inter-cultural cooperation. His latest activity was the development of an international multimedia project together with Oscar-nominee filmmaker Rithy Panh about extreme poverty, whilst also training Cambodians in audio-visual and new media techniques. Damien also teaches trans-media storytelling at EICTV Cuba.

Ms Kaija-Luisa KURIKEstonia

Rochdale Borough Council/Manchester School of Architecture

Kaija-Luisa is a Ph.D. student at the Manchester School of Architecture. Her research focuses on indeterminate urban spaces and its temporary uses in Tallinn, Estonia. She has worked and studied across Europe and spent a year in the United States as a Fulbright Scholar. Kaija-Luisa is an Assistant Planning Officer at the Rochdale Borough Council and serves as a member of the Estonian Urban Lab.

Nora pursues a Master’s in Transportation Sciences at the Hasselt University in Belgium. She has attended several conferences on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), electric mobility and fuel cell technology and gained professional experience at the National Organization Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology in Berlin. Nora currently interns at the Infrastructure Division of the Korean Research Institute for Human Settlement (KRIHS) and was awarded the ASEM-DUO Fellowship scholarship to attend Kyung Hee University in Seoul. In 2012, Nora received her Bachelor‘s degree in Applied Communication Sciences from Wageningen University.

Saleel is a Transport Planner and works on strategic modelling and planning of highway infrastructure across diverse markets in the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Europe. He currently works as a Network Modeller for Stantec in Pune, India. Saleel has contributed to projects such as smart cities in India and Regional Transport Models in the United Kingdom. Saleel is a graduate from the School of Planning and Architecture in Delhi.

Iacopo is a Research Assistant in Russian Studies at the Global Studies Institute of the University of Geneva. He also works on his Ph.D. dissertation on the historical evolution of the perception of the „yellow peril“ in Eastern Russia. Iacopo previously studied International Relations, with a particular focus on the European Union, the Russian Federation and NATO, French and Russian history, current affairs, literature and the French and Russian languages.

Naoya is on a full scholarship at the Yenching Academy of Peking University where he does research on structural transformations in Beijing‘s urban space caused by the dynamism of demographic and sociological transition. He previously represented Japan at the 5th ASEM Rectors’ Conference and Students’ Forum (ARC5) on employability. Naoya has a Bachelor’s in Engineering with a major in Architecture from Kyoto University and previously interned with the Indonesian Ministry of Public Works in the Tanjung Priok Road Construction Project, a Japanese ODA project that involves multinational joint-operations.

Anzor, as the Deputy Head of Internal Logistics at SaryarkaAvtoProm LLP, is responsible for finding material for production lines, conducting skills training for warehouse staff and ensuring continuous improvement in production. He has prior experiences in logistics and transportation as the Head of Container Yards where he coordinated movements of shipments and automobile containers. Despite Anzor’s work in the Engineering sector, his major was in translation studies with a focus on Russian and English.

Ms Yeji LEEKorea

International Trade Centre (ITC), Geneva

Yeji is a Consultant at the International Trade Centre in Geneva, and helps increase the export competitiveness of selected sectors in developing countries. She works directly with SMEs and trade supporting institutions to identify and overcome bottlenecks in conducting international trade. She is particularly involved in IT-related projects in East Africa. Prior to joining the ITC, Yeji interned at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) where she assisted a panel on a trade dispute, drafted a background paper on trade policy and observed trade negotiations leading up to the Nairobi Ministerial Conference. She studied Economics at UC Berkeley and International Law and Economics at the World Trade Institute, University of Bern.

Bandit studies Geography and Geometry at the National University of Laos. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business English from Boutviseth College. Currently, he is writing his final academic thesis on the challenges of land use in Saisettha, a district in Vientiane. He previously participated in an Erasmus undergraduate exchange programme at the University Polytechnic of Valencia, where he studied geodesy, cartography and remote sensing engineering.

Evija studied Maritime Economics and has since worked in the field of infrastructural development. She specialises in Urban, Port and Transport Economics, and has devoted her career to helping developing countries meet their growing infrastructure needs. Presently, she is a Consultant at RebelGroup International, where she improves the delivery of public infrastructure and works with clients like the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.

Jurate is legally trained and experienced in Transport Law. She has worked for the European Maritime Safety Agency in Portugal, in a maritime insurance company in the Netherlands and was involved in a Logistics Chain Management Programme in the United States. Jurate volunteers at the Brussels’ branch of the Young Professionals in Foreign Policy Organisation, where she organises and moderates events on various topics. Jurate holds an L.LM degree in Law and Economics from the University of Utrecht, an L.LM in Commercial Law from Erasmus University in Rotterdam and a B.A. from Mykolas Romeris University in Vilnius.

Moritz, a Law degree holder from the University of Luxembourg, currently pursues his Ph.D. studies on Comparative Criminal Procedure at the same university. His experience spans from traineeships at the European Union Delegation in Jakarta, Indonesia, to legal internships at litigation and employment departments at various law firms.

Chen Sang graduated from Nanyang Technological University with a Bachelor of Science in Maritime Studies. His honours thesis analysed the trade relations between China and countries along the Maritime Silk Road under the initiative of One Belt One Road.

Ms Hillary BRIFFAMalta

King’s College London

Hillary currently pursues her Ph.D. in War Studies at King‘s College London. Her research focuses on whether small states can have a Grand Strategy. She is a Youth Ambassador to the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Malta, and worked closely with international institutions and covered issues ranging from the development of the organisation‘s Declaration on Youth and Security to patrols with the Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine and the running of workshops in Kyrgyzstan. She recently interned at the Malta High Commission to the United Kingdom, and presently conducts research for FromOverHere strategic consultancy. Hillary received the U.S. State Department‘s inaugural ‘Emerging Young Leaders’ award earlier this year.

Munkhnaran holds degrees in International Relations and Economics from the Central European University and Universita Commerciale Luigi Bocconi respectively. He currently pursues a Master’s in International Relations at John Hopkins University on a Fulbright Scholarship. Munkhnaran served as a Project Manager for the New Railway Project with the Mongolian Railway SOSC.

Su Myat Naing pursues a Bachelor‘s in Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering, where she specialises in land transportation, at the Singapore Institute of Technology. She also holds a Diploma in Mechatronics from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore.

Mr Menno Vincent VAN DER KAMPNetherlands

European Parliament

Menno studied Civil Engineering, with a particular focus on Transport, Infrastructure and Logistics, at the Delft University of Technology. Previously, he worked at the European Commission and was in charge of investment strategies of one of the richest transport flows in Europe. Presently, he works for the European Parliament and assists MEP Matthijs van Miltenburg on a wide range of transport issues.

Mr Scott Kyle Johnstone COLVINNew Zealand

University of Melbourne

Scott is a writer, consultant and analyst based in Melbourne, Australia. He has written for the Huffington Post, The Sydney Morning Herald and other national and international publications. As a consultant and analyst, Scott works with professional service firms on how they can use technology to further their practices. He has published numerous articles on the legal industry through Beaton Capital, and has co-written a forthcoming book on the future of law firms with George Beaton. Scott is currently in his final year of his Juris Doctor studies at the University of Melbourne and hopes to work as a solicitor in commercial lawyer upon graduation.

Danyal received his Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from GIK Institute in Pakistan and will complete a Master’s in Engineering Management from Cecos University in 2017. His interest in management led him to obtain a Project Management Certificate from the University of Adelaide, and he is currently on a Micro-Masters credential program in Supply Chain Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Danyal works as an Assistant Director at AZK Transportation & Construction Company. He is also a member of the working group of United Nations Major Group for Children & Youth (UNMGCY).

Madalina has experience in development economics, trade and connectivity and industrial policy. For the last four years she has consulted on trade facilitation, monitoring and evaluation, and regional and global connectivity. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest. She has a Master’s in Public Administration and International Development (MPAID) from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and a Master’s in Public Relations and Communication from the National School of Public Administration Studies in Romania. Madalina has previously worked with the European Commission on a China-Africa-European Union trilateral cooperation study.

Martina is a Senior Consultant with ICF International Policy and Economic Advisory Team. She holds a Master’s degree in International Finance and Economic Policy from Columbia University and a Diploma in Economics from the University of Ljubljana. She focuses on policy analysis and programme evaluation and provides evidence-based recommendations to policy makers for a variety of policy issues. Martina is currently based at the ICF Hong Kong office and works with governments and international institutions in the wider Asia-Pacific region. Prior to the ICF, she worked on projects with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). She was also a Microfinance Manager at Fundacion Microsol in Paraguay.

Jorge currently works as a Field Operations Associate under the Google Maps division at Google. He is also the founder of “AEGEE-Dresden”, an NGO that organises workshops and conferences for youth from over 40 countries.

Ms Julia Barbara POGORZELSKA ERIKKSON, Sweden

EU Delegation to Thailand

Julia, a Master’s of Laws graduate from Uppasala University, works for the European Union Delegation in Bangkok. She focuses primarily on human rights, refugees, migration and infrastructure. She has also done projects on the freedom to move. Last year, she set up Meet My City, an international NGO based in Sweden that focuses on integration and making all parts of the city available for everyone who resides there. Julia was a human rights observer who dealt with the Palestinian workers passing through the checkpoints in the West Bank.

Montana currently pursues an MBA programme at the Strathclyde Business School. He began his career with the technology retailer ‚Best Buy - Future Shop‘, which provided him with experience in sales and management. He proceeded on to a position within Shell‘s mining division.

Araya is an Analyst and Coordinator for ASEAN projects at the Department of ASEAN Affairs, Economic Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand. She previously interned at the Thai Trade Office in The Hague and at the Young Ambassador of Virtue Foundation in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand.

He currently works at the National Grid plc. as an Electricity Demand Analyst where he focuses on the United Kingdom’s Energy Strategies, Modelling and Industry Publications. Huw also developed Fuel Your Sport Ltd (fuelit.co.uk), a company that helps endurance athletes explore the world of sports nutrition, whilst providing manufacturers with a direct marketing platform for their products and access to customer demographic and purchase data.

Tanya studied Mechanical Engineering before proceeding with a post-graduate degree in Innovation Design Engineering from the Royal College of Art and Imperial College London. During her studies, she worked on projects like fuel cell system development, sustainable alternatives to product consumption, and the enhancement of human motion. Tanya currently is a Graduate Engineer with Siemens Rail Automation, where she provides engineering input on a number of on-going and future British rail projects.

Mitsubishi

Minh graduated from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. As a Mechanical Engineer with Mitsubishi, he currently focuses on the maintenance and optimisation of mechanical and electronic components of the Mitsubishi trains operating in Singapore. In 2013, he led a team that designed a solar car sponsored by Shell Oil & Gas Corporation.
