How to EnrolYou can enrol at our main campus, The David Hockney Building for any of the courses in this guide, even if they are located at an external venue.

It is important when you come to enrol that you have with you a form of photographic ID (eg passport, driving licence, bus pass, work ID). There is no need to bring a separate photograph as your picture will be taken for your College ID card during enrolment.

You can pay by cash, cheque (made payable to Bradford College) or credit/debit card. Tuition fees and any exam fees must be paid at the time of enrolment unless you qualify for a fee concession (see page 5) or have a letter to say your employer is paying for your course.

Details of our fees policy can be found in the column on the right.

Postal Enrolments

If you cannot attend any of the sessions above, please contact us on 01274 433333 and we will send you a postal enrolment form for you to return along with a passport-sized photograph and payment or proof of any fee concessions for which you are eligible.

Details of fee concessions can be found on page 5.

ESOL Courses

Applications for ESOL courses are now being taken. You can apply at our main campus, The David Hockney Building or contact us on 01274 433333.

Fees Policy

All students will be expected to make arrangements to pay their fees at the time of enrolment.

•• The College accepts payments by cash, cheque and all major credit/debit cards as well as instalment payments by direct debit

•• Instalment payments are allowed on courses costing over £150.00. An initial payment of 15% of the course fee/minimum of £50.00 (whichever is the smaller) must be paid at enrolment with the rest of the fees payable over a maximum of four further direct debit payments

•• All courses costing £150.00 or less must be paid for in full at enrolment

•• Learners aged 24+ at the start of their course who are studying Level 3 and above will need to take out an Advanced Learner Loan (see page 6) or self-fund the course at the same rate. If an employer is paying, the employer will be charged the Advanced Loan fee

•• If your employer is paying for the course, you must bring to enrolment an original letter from your employer, on company letter-headed paper, which states this (copies, handwritten letters or emails cannot be accepted). Unless you bring this letter you will be asked to pay fees at enrolment. Sponsor fees must be paid within 30 days of the invoice. If payment remains outstanding you will be automatically liable for the fees

•• A number of fee concessions are available for students aged 19+ depending on eligibility. See page 5 for details

•• Eligibility for funding for non UK/EEA citizens depends on individual circumstances. Please contact us on 01274 433333 for more details.

Fee ConcessionsThe College offers a range of fee concessions on many part-time and community courses (including non-accredited community courses) for UK and EU students.

Courses may be fully funded if you qualify for any of the reasons below.

Category D Offenders may also be eligible for fee concessions.

If you believe you are eligible for fee concessions, you will need to bring photocopies of the evidence listed below to submit with your enrolment form:

Fee concessions are also available if you earn less than £15,736.50 per year.

*If this letter is more than three months old, you must provide a confirmation letter or the original letter and a current bank statement showing payments in the last three months.

Please note: To obtain fee concessions, evidence must be in YOUR name. We cannot accept the evidence of dependants.

If you do not have a British passport you will need to bring an up-to-date copy of the following:

•• Your visa•• Your family/husband/wife’s passport if you have come on a family/spouse visa•• Residence permit (photocopy both sides) •• You should have lived here for one year; Asylum Seekers/Refugees for six months. •• If you are on a Spouse/Family Visa and have been here for less than one year, you will be covered by your sponsor/

husband who will need to have been resident in the UK for at least one year.

Benefits Evidence To Bring To Enrolment

Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) A photocopy of the original letter from the Job Centre dated within the last three months* (see below)

Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and are in a work-related activity group (WRAG)

A photocopy of latest letter from the Job Centre dated within the last three months. These are sent out every two years so you will either need a letter confirming that you are still receiving it or provide your two-year award letter and a current bank statement showing payments. This must be in your own name

Universal CreditAnyone Jobcentre Plus determine as being in a work-related activity group, work preparation group or work-focused interview group

Entitlement to Universal Credit or work related activity group (WRAG)

Working Tax Credit(non-accredited courses only - those with codes starting VAB and VAE)

(your total income should not exceed £17,500.00)

Copies of all six pages of the Working Tax Credit Award 2018-2019. If you do not have this please provide a copy of your Provisional Working Tax Credit 2018-2019 and a current bank statement showing payments. This can be in your own name or part of a family claim (husband and wife)

Income Support A copy of an original letter dated within three months (this must be in your own name)* (see below)

Financial Support and Guidance

Information for those studying accredited community courses

(Community Interpreting, ITQ qualifications and British Sign Language courses)

You may not have to pay course fees if you are studying a certificated or accredited course and:

•• You are aged 19-23 on the start date of your course and are studying on an Entry Level or Level 1 course and will progress to Level 2

•• You are aged 19-23 on the start date of your course and are studying on your first full Level 2 qualification

•• You are aged 19-23 on the start date of your course and are studying on your first full Level 3 qualification

•• You are aged 19-23 on the start date of your course and would like to study a full Level 4 qualification and do not already hold a full Level 3 qualification.

If you are in receipt of any of the benefits outlined on page 5, you must bring proof as specified or, if you are enrolling by post, attach a copy to your application form.

Please note: Government funding is not available for learners aged 24+ on accredited courses at Level 3 or above.

Learner Support Fund – students aged 19 and over studying on an accredited course

Some of the courses in this prospectus are eligible for funding through the Learner Support Fund. This fund offers help with books, materials, childcare and travel costs to students who are on benefits or who have a low household income.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)Bradford College offers a wide range of English for Speakers of other Languages courses aimed at developing your speaking and listening and/or reading and writing skills. These courses are offered at Entry Level 1, 2 and 3 and Level 1 at which stage you will be able to access other vocational courses. (Level 1 ESOL leads to GCSE English).

If you study on a part-time course you will be able to work towards a City & Guilds qualification in ESOL, Speaking and Listening and/or Reading and Writing.

Part-time courses are offered at our main campus and at various venues in the community.

Our highly qualified tutors will help you to achieve a qualification in ESOL Skills for Life appropriate for your level and you will be taught using the latest technology in a student-friendly environment.

All courses will involve enrichment activities such as educational visits, professional speakers and ‘Life in the UK’ elements.

We also offer full-time ESOL courses for students aged 16-18. These courses are free.

Course Fees

You may not have to pay tuition fees for Entry level 1, 2 and 3 and Level 1 ESOL courses if you are in receipt of Universal Credit (UC), Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) or Employment Support Allowance (ESA) in the work related activity group.

Fee concessions are also available if you earn less than £15,736.50 per year.

Free Courses in English and Mathematics

English courses available:

•• City & Guilds Awards/Certificates in English Skills at Entry Level and Level 1

You will work on your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in all classes. An individual learning plan will be designed to develop your existing skills.

Assessment is ongoing throughout the year to prepare you for the examinations at the end of the course. You will be assessed on your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

Entry is available throughout the year for Functional Skills, Awards/Certificates in English.

Entry for GCSE is September.

Mathematics courses available:

•• City & Guilds Functional Skills Mathematics at Entry Level 1, Entry Level 2, Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2

•• Principles of Using Mathematical Techniques at Entry Level 3, Level 1 and 2

•• AQA GCSE Mathematics.

You will work on numbers and calculations, measures and solving problems. An individual learning plan will be established to reinforce and develop your existing skills.

Assessment is through end of course assignments or examinations; some of these are with calculators and some without.

Access to Further Education (FE) Employability Programme of Study

Entry Level 2 to Level 1 for those aged 14-18

We offer a wide range of programmes which provide a starting point for vocational courses offered at Bradford College.

We offer a range of FREE English and Mathematics courses, at various centres in the Bradford area, for adults aged 19 or over, to allow you to achieve a nationally-recognised qualification. We offer a supportive and engaging learning environment to support all levels from Entry Level to Level 2. These courses start in September and finish in June.

For these English and Mathematics courses, there are no formal entry requirements. You will be required to complete an assessment and, based upon that, you will be allocated a class at the appropriate level.

In partnership with City Training Services, we offer a huge range of apprenticeships and traineeships to people of all ages and employers of all sizes across Yorkshire and beyond. We believe in the value of apprenticeships and the benefits they bring to young people and employers.

With an apprenticeship, you will gain career-specific skills, qualifications and experience whilst studying towards a career-related qualification (usually one day a week).

Your apprenticeship will last a minimum of one year with some programmes as long as four years. In that time, we will also support you to achieve Functional Skills qualifications in English and mathematics. An apprenticeship allows you to progress to a higher level apprenticeship programme as an alternative to university. You will earn a wage (with holiday pay) while you learn without the burden of student debt.

Whoever you are, whatever your background, if you want to get your career going, an apprenticeship is a great place to start. You may even be already working with an employer who may be able to offer you an apprenticeship.

We review all courses each year and change them to reflect staff expertise, current trends and as a result of student feedback. We will try to ensure that you have a range of courses to choose from and we will let you know in good time the courses available for you to choose for the following year.

We will only change courses if it is necessary for us to do so, for example to maintain accreditation. We will let you know about any such change as soon as possible, usually before you begin the relevant academic year.

On occasion we may need to make changes to some aspects of a course, or how it is delivered. We will only make changes if they are for reasons outside of our control, or where they are for our students’ benefit. We will endeavour to let you know about any such changes as soon as possible (usually before the relevant academic year). Our regulations set out our procedure which we will follow when we need to make any such changes.
