worth of God’s gift of parents• Honor continues into adulthood (1

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother,”

“But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”

Proverbs 17:25 25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, And bitterness to her who bore him.

Proverbs 19:13 13 A foolish son is the ruin of his father, And the contentions of a wife are a continual dripping.

Proverbs 19:26 26 He who mistreats his father and chases away his mother Is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.

– Proverbs 20:20 Whoever curses his father or his mother, His lamp will be put out in deep darkness.

– Proverbs 28:24 Whoever robs his father or his mother, And says, “It is no transgression,” The same is companion to a destroyer.

– Proverbs 30:11 There is a generation that curses its father, And does not bless its mother.

Proverbs 30:17 17 The eye that mocks his father, And scorns obedience to his mother, The ravens of the valley will pick it out, And the young eagles will eat it.

Ephesians 6:4, “And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.




• Hebrews 12:5-11 5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;6 For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.”




• Hebrews 12:5-117 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?8 But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.




• Hebrews 12:5-119 Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness.




• Hebrews 12:5-1111 Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

• Proverbs 22:15 15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of correction will drive it far from him.
