Children Obey and Honor• Obedience is first and foremost a

commitment to God• Obedience is an active pursuit not a

passive obligation• Obedience is both an action and an

attitude• Obedience is not optional in the case of

imperfect parents and parenting• Honor celebrates and recognizes the

worth of God’s gift of parents• Honor continues into adulthood (1

Timothy 5:8)

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother,”

Ephesians 6:1, 2

“But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”

Proverbs 17:21 21 He who begets a scoffer does so to his sorrow, And the father of a fool has no joy.

Proverbs 17:25 25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, And bitterness to her who bore him.

Proverbs 19:13 13 A foolish son is the ruin of his father, And the contentions of a wife are a continual dripping.

Proverbs 19:26 26 He who mistreats his father and chases away his mother Is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.

– Proverbs 20:20 Whoever curses his father or his mother, His lamp will be put out in deep darkness.

– Proverbs 28:24 Whoever robs his father or his mother, And says, “It is no transgression,” The same is companion to a destroyer.

– Proverbs 30:11 There is a generation that curses its father, And does not bless its mother.

Proverbs 15:20 20 A wise son makes a father glad, But a foolish man despises his mother.

Proverbs 29:3 3 Whoever loves wisdom makes his father rejoice, But a companion of harlots wastes his wealth.

Colossians 3:20-21 “Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.”
