PART FIVE

Compositing The Final Movie

Part five of the assignment involves creating a short title sequence with After Effects and then using Premiere Pro to prepare the final movie for outputting as an MP4 file with the H264 compression codec to reduce the data size of your completed movie

Step 1 – Open After Effects

Find Adobe After Effects in the Adobe group of programs and open the application. We will use this to create an animated text introduction.

Step 2 – Create A New Composition

Create a new composition by going to Composition > New Composition. Pick the HDV/HDTV 720 25 Preset. Check that Pixel Aspect Ratio is set to Square, that Frame Rate is set to 25 and change the Duration (time length) to 6 seconds. See below for settings.

Step 3 – Create Some Title Text

Click the Choose Guide & Grid Options button and pick Title/Action Safe. Click the Text button and type out text into Layout Window. Select the text and centre it. Choose a suitable font and resize it to fit inside the inner rectangle as shown below.

Step 4 – Apply A Text Animation Preset

Make sure your timeline slider is at the beginning of the composition and select your text in the composition workspace. Now go to the Effects & Presets panel, pick the Animation presets group, open that, open the Text group of presets and pick a text preset to apply to your words. Here the Random Fade Up option has been chosen. Now scrub back and forwards on the timeline to see the effect. If happy, save your file as something like “intro.aep” into your Computer Graphics R Drive folder. If not choose undo and apply another preset to the text to test that.

Step 5 – Open Premiere Pro

Find Adobe After Effects in the Adobe group of programs and open the application. We will use this to create the final composite of all the elements to make the finished movie. When the welcome screen appears pick the New Project option.

The sequence is now complete and ready to render out. This will be done by doing network rendering to make use of the 20 computers we have at our disposal.

NOTE: Before advising your work is ready for network rendering, make sure any bitmaps you have used in your sequence are located in Computer Graphics R Drive. Otherwise your work will not render out properly.

Once rendered you will composite your render sequence in Adobe Premiere adding a sound track, intro title in After Effects and credits.
