Physical Education Miss Wood Style

Disc Golf is a game in which you must throw a plastic disc towards a target (usually metal baskets). The aim of the game is to complete the course using the fewest possible throws. There is usually up to ten differents holes on each course. Disc Golf

This week your task is to create your very own Disc Golf course at home.

You will need: A Frisbee (if you don’t own one you can use a PLASTIC PLATE or a make one from cardboard)

And a Selection of towels First dependant on whether you’ve got a Frisbee/ Plastic plate. You will need to create your frisbee, so grab a plate and a cardboard box (cereal box) and trace around the outline of a plate, then cut it out. You can decorate it however you would like.

Then set up your course with lots of different holes. The towels will represent the metal baskets . THINK ABOUT making your holes vary in difficulty, so start off easy and then make them harder. Look to have at least FOUR to FIVE holes. Then create your starting point, this is where you will start throwing from each time.

Give each hole a ‘PAR’ this means it’s the number of throws a disc golfer is expected to complete an individual hole in. Your ‘PAR’ will vary depending on how hard your hole is.

And finally start throwing. Get yourself on the starting point and have a go at trying to get the disc to land on the towel.

This weeks Big Question: Imagine you were the principal of Tadpole Farm School...

What changes would you make?Think, Talk and Discuss

Talk to your school friends other people in your family about anything you would like to change about your school and what would you like to always be the same. Listen to their answers. Do you agree or disagree with their choices?

Activity 1 (EY and above)Draw or paint a picture to show what the school would be like after you have made the changes you want to happen.

Activity 2 (KS1 and above) Act out a role-play where you pretend to be Mrs Leo telling the school about the new changes (You could use cuddly toys to be the children)

● How would the children react?● How would the teachers react?

Activity 3 (LKS2 and above)Write a letter or record a speech trying to persuade Mrs Leo to make the changes you want to see happen.Try to use the phrases:

● Surely you would agree…● Everybody knows ….● Imagine …● Don’t you want us ……..?

Activity 4 (UKS2)Think about some of the impractical things the younger children might want or try to change about our school. Pretend to be Mrs Leo and write a letter back to some of these children explaining why their suggestions are not possible.(Is it to do with the cost, the space needed, keeping people safe, the time that it would take or the number of staff that would be needed )

How could Tadpole be even better?

Would you like longer play times?

Tired of wearing school

uniform?

Think our school needs a swimming

pool?

Should every child have their own Chromebook?

Should school start later in the morning?

Family SupportWell...here we are again. It seems like we are moving forward, with small changes being implemented. Some of us may be feeling a little less stressed or anxious whereas others are feeling anxiety.I thought this week we could think about mindfulness and what we can do to support this...

Being mindful is focusing on the present situation and how you are feeling. You can practice mindfulness as a family, taking a moment to slow down and come together. Mindful activities can help children to relax and unwind. Here are some examples for you to try…

* A daily family yoga session.

* A quiet walk, taking in the sights around you, engaging with nature and the smells of cut grass.

* When you are sitting down for dinner, talk about one positive thing that happened in that day. It could be something you saw or something you heard.

* Meditation. Sitting relaxed, in a comfortable position, focusing on your breath.

Printing at Home!

Printing with

elastic bands

Cut up elastic bands into different sizes and glue them onto a piece of cardboard to create a

picture. Using thickened paint or ink, print your

image onto any paper or surface you like!

Printing with lego

A lot of you will have lego at home so why not try printing with it! You could make pictures that can be coloured in, abstract prints, bookmarks or even try recreating famous pieces of art! All you need is lego, thickened paint or ink and paper!

Printing with rolling pins (or a kitchen roll tube!)

Find different materials around your home and stick them to a rolling pin. Dip

in paint and find out what repeating patterns you create!

Activity 1

ASSAULT COURSE!

THE AIM OF THE GAME

Following instructions involving different actions and position words.

HOW TO PLAY

Play this game outside or inside, using everyday items. Arrange a safe ‘assault course’ , using chairs to crawl under, small boxes to jump over and toys to weave in and out.

Give instructions to the child, e.g. “Jump over two boxes” or “Walk between the toys”. Encourage listening and responding to the action and position words. Take in turns with the child to be the instructor.

TOO EASY

Make the instructions longer or more complex, or give the instructions when the child is further away from what you’re talking about.

.

Activity 2

VOICE SOUNDS

Can you make sounds with your voice?

● Make your voice go down a slide...Whee!

● Make your voice bounce like a ball...boing, boing

● Hiss like a snake...ssssss

● Be a steam train...chchchchch

● Buzz like a bee...zzzzzz

● Keep everyone quiet….shshshsh

● Gently moo like a cow...mmmoooo

● Be a clock...tick tock tick tock

MAKE IT FUN

Provide small mirrors for the children to observe their faces, lips, teeth and tongue as they make different speech sounds and experiment with their voices. Make these sounds in a loud voice, fast voice, slow voice or quiet voice.

Prayer and Worship- Patience

Patience is when we wait in a calm way. We show patience all the time but sometimes it is really hard because we might want something straight away. Can you think of a time when you have shown patience? How about when you were learning how to walk?. We may take a few steps, fall over but then we try again. Before we know it we can walk! We learn by being patient and showing perseverance.

Christians believe that God knows what will happen in every situation and that they need to trust him and be patient while they wait. The Bible says ‘But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience’ Romans 8:25

Why not listen to this great Veggietales song about patience https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHG-k5UxFig

Elmo and Zac Efron have a few ideas about patience- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgeuCgODgv4

Activity 2-

Search around your house for a timer.

Is yours like one in the picture?

Have a go at asking someone in your house to set a timer but not tell you how long they have put it on for - wait for it to go off.

What is the longest you can wait without getting impatient?

Activity 4-

Is there anything that you have have wanted to do for a while but not yet been able to do?

This might be riding a bike, doing a tricky puzzle, completing a level in a game,

This week why not see if you can do that task and if through showing patience you can do it! Send your

pictures into your teachers

Activity 3-

FInd a seed, plant it and watch it grow!

You may have to wait a long time to watch it grow into a plant but in this time you will be showing patience and perseverance.

Take some pictures to show your teachers on SeeSaw when it has grown.

Activity 1-

Think of someone who is really special to you that you might be able to write a letter, draw a picture or make a card for.

In the letter/card/picture ask them to send something back to you.

While you wait for a response you will be showing patience!

Things That Go!!!!!

This week we are thinking about things that move and how they do. What vehicles can you think of? What are the different things that power them?

Paper Aeroplanes

Can you design and make a paper aeroplane? What happens if you change the design? How far can you make it fly. There are lots of designs and instructions on line - which do you think will go the furthest?

Brilliant Balloons.

Can you make a balloon powered car? You could make this from scratch, or you could adapt a toy , lego or other item to power it with a balloon. What happens if you change the size of the balloon or how large you blow it up? You could even have a race against your family members.

Steam in Swindon

Swindon is known for being the home of the Great Western Railway. But how does steam power work?Find out what you can about steam power? What was is used for? Is it still used today? You could make a diagram, powerpoint etc. decide how to present your findings.
