    WEEK 10 TERM 3 Commencing Monday 23rd September 2019

Welcome to the final week of what has been an incredibly rewarding and memorable term at Parkview Public School. From our students’ achievements in scholastic endeavours such as the Premiers Spelling Bee and Premiers Debating Challenge, to another outstanding season at the Leeton Eisteddfod and the elite performances of so many of our children in various disciplines of sport it has been ten magical weeks in the Parkview Community. Sitting alongside all of those achievements was the commencement of our Kindergarten 2020 Transition Program and the jewel in the Term 3 crown, Parkview In Lights – ‘PASTVIEW’ which was hosted in front of more than 1200 people at the LHS MPC! Thanks is extended to all community members for supporting our students and staff to achieve what they have over the last ten weeks. The last few days have been very busy in our community highlighted for our students by the visit of the Alpha Show last Friday for a memorable performance of Cinderella. Last Wednesday evening saw our P&C host a very enjoyable Trivia Night which was extremely well supported by our community. Thanks to everyone who was able to attend. We raised in excess of $600! A huge thanks also to Hotel Leeton for their on-going support of our community. Last week was also notable for some significant sporting events which are outlined in detail in Talking Sport. We have an exciting 5 days in the lead up to the Spring Holiday break. We trust everyone enjoys time with family and friends during the up coming holiday period and returns to school re-charged and ready for a huge final term of learning! Please consider the following as we plan for the new week: Indigenous Hip Hop Project Workshops, Community Event and International Food Festival This week we are lucky to host the team from the Indigenous Hip Hop Project at school. The team will bring four professional dance artists who will host workshops with all students in the lead up to our community event this Friday afternoon, 27th September from 4pm-6.15pm. This Friday, 27th September we will be hosting our IHHP Community Event and International Food Festival at school between 4pm and 6.15pm. An outline of events is contained in the graphic on this page. Please also note the following timelines for the event: 3.10pm: School concludes. Students with permission remain at school and will be supervised by staff in Quad and on the Oval. Students received permission notes last week to stay after school on the day and will be supervised by staff who have volunteered to stay at school and supervise the children. Staff will collate these notes and no children without permission should remain at school. Parents are requested to arrive by 4pm to enable staff to coordinate other elements of the event. Footy Colours and Cupcake Day Our SRC will host its annual Footy Colours and Cup Cake Day supporting the Fight to Cure Cancer this Friday, 27th September. Students will be encouraged to wear their favourite footy colours for a gold coin donation and will also have the opportunity to purchase delicious Cup Cakes at Recess on this day! • TALKING SPORT – WEEK 10, TERM 3

Riverina Girls Basketball Final Parkview’s Representative Girls Basketball Team has lost a thrilling Riverina Final of the NSWPSSA State Girls Basketball Knockout against a talented Deni South PS team at the Leeton

Indoor Stadium last Monday. The game was tight from start to finish with all of Parkview’s team members giving their all throughout a close match. Lana Simcoe and Sophie Taylor started well for Parkview who trailed by 3 points at the first break. After trailing narrowly at quarter time, Parkview’s defence stepped up in the second quarter with Daniella Draper, Ruby Miller and Chelsea Blacker applying terrific pressure to help Parkview to a slender 1 point half time lead. In the third quarter, Parkview’s offensive skills were on show with some brilliant passing from Taylah Axtill setting up Amelia Irvin for multiple scoring opportunities as Parkview took a four point lead to the final change. Unfortunately for Parkview, despite the best efforts of Holley Krause who provided a spirited defensive effort for the entire game, Deni South came up with some clutch baskets to win by 11 points. We are extremely proud of the girls’ efforts to make this stage of the competition and thank the large number of community members who made their way to the Stadium on game day to support the team. FINAL SCORES: Parkview 18 (Amelia Irvin 14, Holley Krause 2, Lana Simcoe 1, Ruby Miller 1) Deni South 29

Riverina Girls AFL Team Amelia Irvin represented Riverina against Wagga Diocese in the Southern NSW Girls AFL Challenge at

Robertson Oval last Wednesday. Amelia produced a pleasing performance for her team, combining a role across Half Forward in the first two quarters before playing un-changed in the ruck for the second half of the game. After giving up three early goals, Riverina fought back gamely but were unable to bridge the gap, going down by 17 points. We congratulate Amelia on her achievement. FINAL SCORES: Riverina 2.0.(12) Wagga Diocese 4.5(29)

  • Todd Woodbridge Cup Riverina Finals Parkview’s representative Stage 2 Tennis Team travelled to Wagga Wagga last Thursday to represent at the Riverina Finals of the Todd Woodbridge Cup. The team qualified for this event

after winning the LNPSSA event held at the Parkview Tennis Club earlier in the term. The team of Cruze Dale, Xavier Sullivan, Jonah Watson, Xavier Chilko, Zoe Iannelli, Mikayla Heath, Abigail Blacker and Gracie Daly produced some excellent tennis amongst the 25 teams who contested the Riverina Finals finishing fourth in their pool for the day. We congratulate our team on an excellent performance on the day and acknowledge the outstanding sportsmanship they displayed on the day.
