to all current kindergarten students who will be entering grade one in September. We hope as many as possible of our kindergarten students get registered for this valuable program. The skills they will learn and get reinforced will give these students a great start to their grade one year. Spaces are filling up fast so please register as soon as possible. Summer Session takes place for from July 11th to 29th and students are in session from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm. It is free to attend and is located in our school. Mrs. Gracie will be the District Principal for all elementary school summer programs. Congratulations, Mrs. Gracie! Registration takes place on line. If you need assistance in registering your child(ren), please come to the school library on Friday, April 22nd from 1:30 to 3:00pm. Although there are still a lot of things to accomplish during our current school year, the initial planning for the upcoming school year is now under way. Teachers will be beginning to meet to discuss the best placement for your child, for the following school year. Your child’s current teacher is in the best position to determine the best placement for your child. Each child’s academic, social, behavioral and learning style needs are taken into consideration by our classroom teachers and Resource Teachers when they meet to place your child in a class. I will take requests in writing if you request a certain grade configuration or placement for your child, but I am not able to guarantee that your child will be placed in the class that you request. We have to do what we feel is in both the child’s and the school’s best interests, and at times, a request to be placed with a child’s best friend, may not be in the best learning interests of either child. Also, please note that we have limited choices in how we organize our school. Split grades are a reality that we must face. Please be assured that students placed in split grades are taught and given curriculum according to their own specific grade level. Children in split grades are not all taught the same things. There may be some activities that they do together as a class, but their assessment is done according to their specific grade levels. We are proud of all classes and teachers here at Parkside. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to send me an email phone call, or drop by the office to see me. Have a great week. School Code of Conduct With the arrival of the beautiful spring weather, here is an important reminder of the dress code that can be found in the Parent Handbook of the Student Agenda:

• Dress Code: At Parkside We Dress Responsibly to Encourage Student Success! All clothing at school must NOT ...

x Be racially offensive, contain sexual innuendo, profanity or promote and form of violence or harassment.

x Have inappropriate slogans or promote the use of products that are illegal such as tobacco, drugs or alcohol. Some general guidelines:

x Underwear is not outerwear. x Necklines must be appropriate (no spaghetti straps) x Shirts must touch the top of the pants. x Shorts and skirts must not be any shorter than mid-thigh.

• PE clothing: non-marking running shoes must be worn in the gym during P.E. Appropriate gym strip will be outlined by classroom teachers.

• Inside shoes: Due to our muddy, rainy climate, it is helpful for all students to have an extra pair of shoes at the school. Classroom teachers will outline for students the procedures for indoor and outdoor shoes.

Personal Emergency Supplies: At a recent PAC meeting Tara Sutherland has offered to organize ordering of personal emergency supplies for anyone who would like to participate from the Aldergrove family of Schools. By doing a bulk order there is a 10-15% discount on most items that are not already on sale or clearance as well as no shipping costs. This is not a fundraiser. It is just an opportunity to ensure our families are taken care of in an emergency situation. All information for ordering can be found on the website: http://epaldergrove.weebly.com . Any questions you may have can also be addressed by Mrs. Sutherland through the website. Closing date for ordering will be May 13th and orders will be available for pick up May 27th at ACSS. Thank you so much Tara for taking on this initiative and being so passionate about our families safety.
