Find a park: www.siouxfalls.org/public-parks

The programs on this page are not intended as child care programs. Children ages 6 and younger must be supervised by someone at least 16 years old. The ratio of children 6 years and under may not exceed five children per adult.

Outdoor playground programs are weather-dependent. If there is inclement weather, the program will be delayed or canceled for the day. Please be aware of this before sending children to the program. For weather announcements, call 367-8222 or check us out on Facebook, Twitter, or at www.siouxfalls.org/parks.

Creative Arts OutdoorsCome and be creative with us this summer! Many arts and crafts experiences will be found at our supervised playground locations. Each week the creative experiences will be different. Crafts are designed for children 7 to 12 years old and may be too challenging for younger kids.

Some supplies will be needed, and there will be a small charge on some crafts; check with the playground leaders for details. Groups of ten or more, please call 367-8222 two days in advance to register.

West Side Dog ParkOff-leash dog parks are quickly becoming some of the most popular destinations for communities across the nation. They offer like-minded park visitors a place to exercise their pets while creating opportunities for social interaction.

The City of the Sioux Falls currently has two off-leash dog parks, located at Spencer Park and Lien Park. Driven by steadily increasing attendance at current dog parks, the City is looking to expand its facilities by constructing an additional dog park on the west side of the city.

The new facility is proposed to be incorporated into Family Park. Family Park is a regional park on the west side of the city that currently encompasses a restroom, walking trails, parking, and fishing access points. Potential improvements that could be added by this project include fencing, irrigation, drinking fountains, walking paths, trees and landscaping, shade structures, and other features to support off-leash dog activities.

The department is looking to finalize the design of the facility in the spring of 2015. Construction will follow with an anticipated completion date of November 2015.

The tennis facility, located on the Sanford Sports Complex campus directly behind The Pentagon, opened in March 2015.

Spellerberg Park lessons have been moved to Huether Family Match Pointe due to construction of the indoor aquatic facility.McKennan Park will not have Session 1 lessons due to court resurfacing scheduled for June. Lessons will resume second session.

10 & Under programming will be under the leadership of Chris Dummermuth. Chris has extensive training in 10 & Under Tennis and is a well-respected tennis pro, educator, coach, and athlete in the community.

The Great Cardboard Boat Race Kuehn Pool#160009 Don’t laugh! Cardboard boats really can float! In fact, many boats raced three times at our previous events. Of those, we expect many will return and go for it once again. But here’s the catch: You may only use corrugated cardboard and duct tape. Use your imagination. Cardboard may be waxed. Here’s a hint: If you layer the cardboard, it will be much stronger. No wood, Styrofoam, fiberglass, or plastic, except for your oars and paddles. All boats must be powered by humans 7 years and older. Five age divisions. All boats will be judged based on creativity, sea-worthiness—and quickest to sink! Come join in on the fun and win some prizes.

Each boat will need two participants, one at each end of the pool. Life jackets for this event will be provided by Parks and Recreation and must be worn by contestants. Swimsuits required. Free. Registration required.JUL 11 Sat 9 a.m. Boat check-inJUL 11 Sat 10 a.m. Race time FREE

Purchase a Veterans’ Park Paver Heroes come in many forms and all deserve a permanent place of recognition in Veterans’ Memorial Park. Honor a patriot, thank a loved one, or distinguish yourself. Military or civilian, a paver is the perfect way to show your support. Pavers make the perfect gifts for graduations, retirements, anniversaries, holidays, celebrations, memorials, and more.

Each personalized limestone paver is placed in Veterans’ Memorial Park. These custom-engraved pavers make meaningful and memorable gifts for every occasion. Placing a paver will not only go toward a great cause, it is a gift that will last for generations to come. Falls Overlook CafeThe quartzite building still standing on the east bank is the Sioux Falls Light and Power Company building, completed in 1908. The building housed three 500-kilowatt hydroelectric generators and used the dam and the millrace from the Queen Bee Mill. In subsequent years, the plant added additional coal-fired steam generators. The plant was abandoned in 1974 and donated to the city in 1977. Before remodeling took place to create the Falls Overlook Cafe, the building was in similar condition as when it was first constructed.

Today, Falls Overlook Cafe serves a variety of family-friendly foods, ice cream treats, and beverages. The cafe offers a dining experience overlooking the Falls of the Big Sioux River. Enjoy lunch or dinner in one of the nation’s top 25 parks—a perfect view and excellent sandwiches, entrees, soups, salads, and desserts. Extended hours May 15 to September 13.
