Chief’s Corner
During April 2015, the Department conducted in‐service training for all sworn staff. The 8 hour in‐service training concentrated on CPR re‐cer fica on, Use of Force, and departmental updates. The Use of Force training reviewed many of the cases that have caught Na onal a en on. In addi on, staff reviewed our Mission/Value Statement.
A new Ci zen Police Academy started this month. About twelve people par cipated in the new class. This program con nues to be popular with our ci zens.
The work on the transi on to a new CAD system con nues. Staff has been working with the CAD vendor. There have been several working sessions regarding the Records Management System. The transi‐on con nues to be proceeding on schedule and we hope to make the transi on in August of 2015.
Progress on the 9‐11 Memorial also con nues. The spot for the memorial has been staked out and staff has been working with Public Works to get the project going. A vendor for the brick campaign has been selected and we will be moving forward on ge ng this informa on out to the community.
The Mental Health grant con nues to move forward. A five‐hour training program was given to members of the Advisory Board on April 17th. Evalua ons from this training were extremely posi ve. CIT Officers in the field are beginning to be dispatched to certain cases. We will con nue to meet with the Grant monitors.
The Department was invited to discuss ways to address the needs of young people at The Taste of Park Ridge this year. Several of the groups involved met with the Taste staff to start a dialogue on some ideas.

Traffic Enforcement
Selec ve Enforcement at the following loca ons: Cumberland and Gillick, Bonita and Western, Tal‐co and Hamlin, Weeg Way between Luther Lane and Western, Farrell between Po er and Vernon, Summit and Washington, Roosevelt School.
Obtained the data from the speed sentry placed at Lincoln and Greendale. Data does not jus fy se‐lec ve enforcement. Complainant contacted and has requested another study in the summer.
Emailed Alderman Moran in reference to the speed sentry not working on Lincoln.
No fied Patrol of complaints of cars boxing in a school bus at Dee and Busse and provided them with approximate mes.
Deployed speed sentry on Berry Parkway, between Touhy and Northwest Hwy.
Received complaints regarding Gillick and Hamlin related to Maine South and no fied CSO Manager Hayse.
Dee and Farrell will be monitored, based on complaints of stop sign viola ons.
Con nued work on Hit and Run cases.
Overweight Trucks 10 Overweight Permits were approved. Revised the overweight truck permit ordinance due to issues with the new Oxcart Permi ng system
now in use. The permit system is now compa ble with industry standards. City Council approval is pending.
Red Speed
310 total Red Speed viola ons, 209 approved.
Miscellaneous
Communicated conversion to Oxcart permi ng system via Police Special Order.
Ordered addi onal “Children Play Here” and Uptown bike signs.
Ordered a new pedestrian crossing sign for Northwest Hwy. and Euclid.
Completed and mailed Traffic Safety Challenge documenta on.
A ended a class on large trucks and buses.
Provided the top 10 crash intersec ons to the Police Department and contacted Phil Schatzel from LGH regarding Dempster and Luther Lane being number 2 on the list.
Sent out 3 radars for repair.
6 new radar handles issued to Patrol.
