CONTENTS INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT

Bricks 4 Kidz® is a new, educational program that provides

children the opportunity to learn basic STEM concepts while

building motorized LEGO® models. The program is designed

to foster teamwork, enhance problem-solving skills, as well as

stimulate a child’s natural curiosity and imagination! The Bricks 4

Kidz® motto is “We learn, we build, we play.”

Two Park Hill High School graduates and life-long friends, Lisa

(Hannah) Deister and Tara (DeJarnette) Yager, are responsible for

bringing this amazing program to the Northland. “Tara and Lisa

both have elementary age boys that love playing with LEGO®.

When we discovered Bricks 4 Kidz®, which is now in over 30

countries, we knew it was something we had to bring to our

town.” says Lisa Deister. Not unfamiliar with working together,

Lisa and Tara worked their first job together at Googies, a small

coffee shop in Parkville, MO in the mid-80s. Again, they are

enjoying the perks of friendship and partnership.

To find out more about Bricks 4 Kids, contact Tara Yager by

phone (816) 529-7954, email [email protected] or visit

the company website at www.Bricks4Kidz.com/KCNorth.

Jimmy Vetter started studying the harmonica in 2004 and

continues to take music lessons. He also plays the Ukulele and is

currently learning the Bodhran (Irish frame drum). He has been

teaching beginning harmonica since 2009 and currently plays

lead with the Harmonica Tones, a harmonica quartet that focuses

on music for senior events and at retirement - assisted living

facilities. He plays both diatonic (10 hole) and 3 or 4 octave

chromatic harmonicas.

ACT TEST PREPARATIONACT TEST PREPARATIONThe ACT is the most widely recognized college entrance exam, even surpassing the SAT. It is acceptable at all colleges and universities. Many schools offer academic scholarships based on ACT scores. A few points can make the difference of entrance into your top-choice school and thousands of dollars in scholarship money. The good news is you can prepare for this standardized test. Whether you are taking the test for the first time or the last you can increase the likelihood of getting a higher score if you take the ACT Preparation Course offered by Park Hill Community Education. The 12-hour course will provide test-taking techniques and specific information on how to do well on each of the four sub-tests. Test preparation and practice can help you get the score you want. A practice test will be given the week before the actual test for the practice of new techniques and to hone skills. Please note this course does NOT register you for the ACT test. Students register for the test at www.ACT.org/student.
