Indian Embassy SPDC notice: Attention of all Indian associations/Indian schools in Ku-wait is once again drawn to Scholarship Pro-gramme for Diaspora Children (SPDC) which was introduced by Government of India in the academic year 2006-2007 with the objective to make higher education in India accessible to the children of overseas Indians and promote India as a centre for higher studies.

Under the scheme, 100 PIO/NRI students were awarded scholarship of up to US$ 4,000 per annum for undergraduate courses in Engi-neering, Technology, Humanities, Liberal Arts, Commerce, Management, Journalism, Hotel Management, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and some other courses.

The scheme is open to NRIs/PIOs from over 40 countries (including Kuwait) having substantial Indian Diaspora population.

The Scheme was revamped and launched in July 2016. Under the revamped Scheme, num-ber of scholarships has been enhanced from 100 to 150 with introduction of 50 scholarships for children of Indian workers employed in the Emigration Check Required (ECR) countries. The Scheme is now applicable to four catego-ries of applicants:

(i) Persons of Indian Origin(ii) Non-Resident Indians(iii) Children of Indian workers working in

ECR countries (including Kuwait).(iv) Children of Indian workers in ECR

countries - studying in IndiaThe institutions that are covered under this

Scheme are:(i) NITs, IIITs, Schools of Planning and

Architecture(ii) “A” Grade institutions accredited by Na-

tional Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC).

(iii) Other institutions covered under Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme.

Income criteria will be applicable to all four categories. Applicants will seek scholarships after they obtain admission in the approved list of educational institutions.

IDAK holds dental screening campKUWAIT CITY, Jan 21: Indian Dentists’ Alli-ance in Kuwait ( IDAK ) continued its unwav-ering commitment to social service in 2017 by co-operating with Anti-Alcoholism Movement ( AAM ), a spiritual organization of St Gre-gorios Indian Orthodox Church in association with Indian Doctors Forum ( IDF ) and Kuwait Heart Foundation, in conducting their 8th free Medical Dental Screening Camp.

The meticulously organized camp was con-ducted on Jan 13th at Integrated Indian School, Jleeb Al Shuyoukh. Hundreds of lesser privi-leged Indian expatriates benefited by having the opportunity to consult with medical experts across almost all specialities of IDF and IDAK. Dr Prathap Unnithan , Chairman of the Com-

munity Welfare Committee of IDAK along with Dr Abhay Patwari , the President of IDF and the officials of AAM inaugurated the camp in a well organized ceremony .

Parivallal Friends Association celebrated the Pongal Vizha at the premises of Star Udayam on Jan 13, as the day’s events started off with prayers to the Almighty and by of-fering Pongal to the Sun God. Thereafter a light music programme was performed where Gangesh, Nelson, Baby Preetha Raja, Baby Swathi Radha, Baby Srenethy Radha exhibited their talents and enthralled the audience. This was followed by a novel sugar cane striking competition

amongst the members and their families which took place.The 12th year Andu Malar was released. The President

informed the members that as part of its funding for noble causes, Indian Rupees 24 lakhs was distributed amongst 117 disabled and widow families to take care of their edu-cational and medical expenses.

Finally, a Sirappu Patti Mandram was held with G. Raja as Naduvar and participation by Mrs Ambulakshmi Kari-

kalan, Mrs Deviravi, Virudai Paari and Mahesh whose thoughtful and humorous speeches inspired the audience.

The whole event was well coordinated and conducted, thanks to the group efforts of the Executive Committee comprising of President, S. Chelladurai, General Secretary, Sami P. Venkat, Vice-President C. Paranjyothi, Treasurer T. Elangovan and Joint Treasurer M. Murugesan.

Tiruvenkatam Group Kuwait celebrated the Thiruppavai Mahotsavam for the 5th year in succession with a grand finale on Jan 13. The children Thiruppavai competitions were conducted for recitation, Fancy dress and quiz. Pictures were taken during the occasion.
