The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

June 18, 2017 Not by bread alone does one live, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the L . — Deuteronomy 8:3b ************************************************************************ TRUST IN JESUS Today’s feast celebrates another central mystery of our faith—the mystery of the Eucharist. Like the mystery of the Trinity, the real presence of the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist can never be fully understood, but can only be believed. Just as the Israelites in the desert were invited to put their trust in God’s word to them, we are invited to trust wholly in the word of Jesus. In today’s Gospel Jesus promises to give us a share in his very own flesh and blood, and a share in eternal life besides. We are called to take him at his word and open our hearts to receive true nourishment and life from our participation in the Eucharist. ***********************************************************************

¡NO TENGAN MIEDO! No tenemos nada y a nadie a quien temer. ***************************************************************

***************************************************************

St. Joseph Catholic Academy A Message from the Principal A Catholic Education: A Gift to Your Children

Dear Parent,

Catholic education is a precious gift that you can give your children that is distinct from other educational opportunities.

If your child is not currently enrolled in a Catholic elementary school, why not consider giving him or her that gift at St. Joseph Catholic Academy beginning in September?

The partnership between teachers and parents of Catholic school children begins in a shared financial sacrifice. For teachers, it means working for a smaller salary; for parents, it means paying tuition. Yet, both are willing to make the sacrifice because the investments pay a life-long dividend in the lives of the children. The more powerful reason is the recognition that Catholic schools offer what no other schools can provide, i.e., Catholic schools give your children the opportunity to strengthen the relationship with God that began with their Baptism and will continue throughout their lives.

To assist you with tuition, please know that Bishop DiMarzio has established a program of financial assistance for children coming into Catholic schools from public schools. Please visit our Academy website at www.sjcalic.org to learn more about our extensive program offerings.

We are currently registering new families for September classes. If interested, please phone us at 718-728-0724 to arrange for your child to spend a day visiting classes at the Academy before the academic year ends in mid-June.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Mr. Luke Nawrocki

Atentamente,

Sr. Luke Nawrocki Director de escuela

2017 Annual Catholic Appeal As of June 1, 2017, only 87 parish families have pledged $33,953.00, (61.23% of Pledge Goal), $27,734.60 received toward our parish goal of $55,455 for the 2017 Annual Catholic Appeal to assist Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio and our diocesan church to maintain its many services and ministries. We ask that every parish family consider making a pledge to this campaign, remembering that all monies received over goal will be returned to St. Joseph’s. In case that we do not reach that goal, our parish will have to pay the balance to the Dioceses. **************************************************************

Remember CHURCH and chapel ETIQUETTE

Please arrive to Mass on time. If you are late, wait for an appropriate time during the Mass to enter and avoid drawing attention to yourself.

Please turn off all electronic devices, including cellular phones, pagers, mobile devices, or games.

Please be respectful of persons praying before or after Mass. Please refrain from socializing in Church. Catch up with friends, neighbors, and others outside of Church or in the Gathering Space.

Please do not slam the kneelers against the floor. Please be an active participant in the liturgy with

your body, mind, and spirit - listen to the readings attentively, join in song, pray and attend to God interiorly.

Please remain until after the final recessional hymn is complete.

Please remember that when you are in Church, you are in the presence of Jesus Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament. Therefore, please dress in a manner that shows respect to God and His house – even during the warmer summer months!

Remember that God the Father listens to our prayers with loving and unfailing attention; we should worship together as a community, in His Presence, in exactly the same way. Let us give our whole, undivided hearts to God with reverence, respect, and participation in the sacred liturgy. It is our privilege as Catholics to prayerfully lift up our hearts and minds and offer ourselves with Christ at the altar.
