FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT December 2, 2018
What is Shawl Ministry? It’s a group of ladies (men are welcome) who meet twice a month to knit and crochet prayer shawls. Prayer shawls are a tangible way of showing that people are praying for you. There are many reasons
for giving someone a prayer shawl. Some of our shawls have been made for someone undergoing a medical procedure, as a comfort after a loss, for prayer or meditation, for someone expecting a baby, nursing a baby, during an illness or recovery, for someone caring for another, in appreciation or just because...the possibilities are endless. Once the shawl is finished we share who the shawl is for and pass it around so that everyone can pray for that person. We meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month at 9:00 a.m. in Room 101. If you are interested in this ministry, whether you would like to make shawls or know of someone who might be in need of a tangible sign of prayer, please contact Betty Voisard @ 339-3941 or [email protected].
PLEASE REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS the family and friends of Mickey Mescher. May our Lord grant Mickey eternal rest.
Over 50’s News: The Over 50’s will be eating lunch on Wednesday, December 5th at 11:30 a.m. at Harrison’s. All Parishioners 50 years and older are welcome and encouraged to join us, please bring a new unwrapped toy for the Needy Basket.
Come Join in Prayer on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 6:15 p.m. We will be walking The Stations of the Crib, an
Advent Reflection. Just as we walk the Stations of the Cross in Lent, this coming Advent we will walk the Stations of the Crib. Come experience the “Stations” in a whole new way. This prayer experience is suitable for the entire family.
Christmas Goodie Sale: December 15th, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. December 16th, 8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in the Narthex. Come early for
best selection. You’ll be able to find at least 20 different types of hand-crafted Christmas cookies/candies for your shopping pleasure! You will choose how many of each type you want, place them in a box we provide and pay by the pound! It’s a no-stress, easy way to get your holiday baking done all while supporting our youth! We are also in need of additional goodies for the sale to help provide a good variety. Would you consider mass producing one type of goodie that we can include in the sale? If you would be willing to make some, please call the office (937-667-3419) or email [email protected] by December 1 and let us know what type you will be making?
Coffee with Christ continues December 9, 9:15am – 10:00 a.m. in the Banquet Hall with; White Privilege – Is it Real: Members of the Anti Racism Task Force of the Archdiocese will be with us to talk about this very real topic. Their goal is to promote understanding and improve communication with our
African American brothers and sisters. The presenters bring a wide array of experiences to share. Their work is based on the work of Tim Wise’s work by the same name White Privilege. If you have never come to one of the sessions come and join the conversation!
Advent Lessons and Carols: Tuesday, December 11th at 7:00 p.m. at St. Christopher Parish in Vandalia. Advent Lessons and Carols is a service of Scripture and song that dates to the late 19th century. In this beautiful service, we listen to eight Scripture readings which recount the fall, promise a Messiah, and call each of us to prepare room in our hearts for Christ. Each lesson is followed by a carol or hymn that reflects on the lesson’s message, and a brief prayer. Come Experience the peaceful joy of the Season of Advent.
HELP CENTERST. VINCENT HOTEL: Parishioners are reminded that the Hotel is in constant need of casseroles to serve the homeless guests. Completed casseroles can be placed in the Parish freezer and will be periodically delivered to the hotel by Parish volunteers.
For further information, contact Mike Begley at 667-2882 or the Parish Office at 667-3419. The next opportunity to serve the evening meal to the guests at St. Vincent Hotel will be December 23. Please meet in the North parking lot of the Church for a 5:00 p.m. departure if you would like to volunteer.
The Worship Commission is in need of one parishioner willing to step forward to serve on our team. We would like to have a commission team of 8 members, but we
currently only have 7. We meet 6 times a year with a term of 3 years. Please discern if this is an area in which you would like to serve our parish (and make new friends). You may contact Kim Yoder at 667-1141 or email her at [email protected] if interested or if you have questions. Thank you.
With the Holidays coming up, bulletins are due early. Please submit all articles to Victoria Hammermeister 2 weeks prior to the weekend you need it posted in the bulletin. Thank you!
THANK YOUI would like to thank the Men’s Shared Prayer Group for their wonderful breakfast. The food was delicious (thank you wives), but the idea of sitting and talking to people you don’t know was fantastic. I met people I haven’t seen before because of different Mass times. We need more events like
this to bring our parish together and help people realize what a wonderful group of Parishioners we have. Many, many thanks and I know you’ll get a whole new bunch of blessings from God. You helped make this OUR parish. Dottie Zimmerman.
