Affectionately known as the
"saint of the gutter" for her
unconditional love for the
poor, abandoned and
marginalized, Mother
Teresa earned several
international honors,
including the Nobel Peace
Prize in 1979.
She was born Agnes Gonxha
Bojaxhiu of Albanian
parents on Aug. 26, 1910, in
Skopje, in what is now
Macedonia. She joined the
Loreto order of nuns in
1928.
In 1946, while traveling by
train from Kolkata to Darjeeling, she was inspired to found the Missionaries of Charity order. The order was
established four years later and has since opened more than 130 houses worldwide to provide comfort and care
for the needy. Today the Sisters of Charity number over 4000 sisters.
She died Sept. 5, 1997, in Kolkata, formerly Calcutta, the eastern Indian city where she spent decades doing her
work. She was 87.
Mother Teresa is a woman for all people and all ages. Her message is universal. Mother Teresa's life message
inspires all to embrace suffering, especially that of the poor. Her statement, “One of the great tragedies of our
time, and indeed of all time, is that we tend to shun the suffering or at least avoid interacting with them (the
poor)”, challenges us to live a life of mercy and stewardship.
In honor of St. Teresa of Calcutta and her dedication to life of ministry to the poor, Pope
Francis has designated this weekend as the Jubilee for Workers of Mercy and Volunteers, i.e.
all those who are involved with ministry to the poor, abandoned or marginalized.

This weekend, September 3-4, is our return to the regular weekend Mass schedule: Saturday evening at 5:00 p.m.; 7:00 p.m. (Spanish). Sunday: 7:15, 9:00, 10:30 am and 12:00 Noon. All masses will be celebrated in St. Vincent Martyr Lower Church (gym). Also the weekday 12:00 p.m. Mass (Monday - Friday) will resume on Tuesday, September 6 at St. Paul Inside the Wall. Confessions will be in the school office adjacent to the gym from 4:00 - 4:30 p.m.

DAILY READINGS TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: Wisdom 9:13-18b This reading acknowledges that people have had a difficult time attempting to know God's wishes. At times we have difficulty understanding the things that happen on earth. Therefore, learning of things in heaven would have been impossible, except that God sent us wisdom and the Holy Spirit to help us understand him. Second Reading: Philemon 9-10, 12-17 Paul writes to Philemon regarding Onesimus, a slave who ran away and encountered Paul. Although Paul wished Onesimus could remain with him, he did not want to violate Philemon's wishes. Paul asks that Philemon receives his friend Onesimus as a beloved brother, not as a slave. He closes by saying, "Welcome him as you would me." Gospel: Luke 14:25-33 Jesus warns people who wish to follow him that they must abandon everyone else first. A person calculates the amount of money needed to complete a project before they begin it. In the same way, Jesus warns these people to consider exactly what is involved before they make a commitment to follow him.

LABOR DAY OBSERVANCE
In observance of the Labor Day holiday, our Parish Offices will be closed on Monday, September 5 and reopen on Tuesday, September 6 at 8:30 a.m. On Tuesday the offices will return to a regular weekly schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Registrations have been mailed for the 2016-17 school year to all those who have completed the requirements for this year. Please return your registration form with the registration fee and any other requested information to the Youth Office as soon as possible.
CHRISTIAN FORMATION Fall Academic Year Registrations for the academic year of 2016-2017 for religious education have been mailed to those who have been enrolled with us in the past. Registered parishioners who are joining for the first time, you can access a form online to be completed in its entirety. Kindergarten -8th graders are asked to submit their registrations as soon as possible. Please see parish website for programming options. Christian Formation Families- Save The Date We look forward to seeing everyone at our opening at Catechetical Sunday on our Opening Day, Sunday, September 18, 2016. After each the 9:00 am and 10:30 am Masses we invite families to our annual Books and Bagels for a light breakfast and to pick up the materials/books for this academic year.

SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE
For many years now, our parish has helped students get back to school with all the materials and supplies they need. Our school supply drive will
be held this weekend September 3/4. Your contributions of supplies such as, backpacks, lunch bags, crayons, pencils, red pens, erasable pens and markers etc. help to make the start of school a little easier and more affordable for many families. Your donations can be placed in the vestibule of the school after each weekend Mass. If you know of a family that could benefit from this outreach, please call Maureen Dorney at 973-765-9662. "The Knights of Columbus invite everyone to join them at the United States Military Academy at West Point for the ARMY vs. AIR FORCE football game on Saturday, November 5th. Tickets are $50.00 each (transportation not included). Children under 3 years of age are admitted free. The tickets entitle you to the game, and to our tailgate beforehand. We will be setting up and ready to tailgate by 8:30 - 9:00 a.m. This will also give us time and access to watch the parade and parachute jump prior to the game. Game time is 12:00 noon. VIGESIMO TERCER DOMINGO EN
TIEMPO ORDINARIO Primera Lectura: Sabirudría 9:13-18b En esta lectura se reconoce que la gente ha tenido dificultad en entender los deseos de Dios. A veces es difícil entender las cosas que pasan en la tierra. Así que tratar de entender las coas del cielo resultaría imposible. Por eso Dios no mandó sabiduría y al Espíritu Santo para ayudarnos a entenderlo. Segunda lectura: Filemón 9-10, 12-17 Pablo escribe a Filemón en relación a Onésimo, un esclavo que escapó y que se encontró con Pablo. Pablo deseaba que Onésimo pudiera quedarse con él, pero no quiso contradecir a Filemón. Pablo le pide a Filemón recibir a Onésimo como a un hermano, no como a un esclavo . Termina diciendo: “Recíbelo como si se tratara de mí mismo”. Evangelio: San Lucas 14:25-33 Jesús advirte que quien quiera seguirlo debe abandonarlo todo primero. Una persona calcula la cantidad de dinero que se necesita para terminar un proyecto antes de iniciarlo. De igual manera, Jesús advierte a esta gente a considerar exactamente lo que se require antes de que se comprometan a seguirlo.
Catequesis Formación Cristiana
Año académico-Otoño Las registraciones para el año académico 2016-2017 para la Catequesis de la Educación Religiosa han sido enviados por correo a todos lo que han estado registrado con nosotros desde antes. Para los fieles parroquianos que se registraron por primera vez, pueden obtener una forma para la registración en la página web de la parroquia y llenarla en su totalidad. A los que están en Kindergarten hasta 8° grado se les pide presentar su registración tan pronto como sea posible.
CCD voluntarios Se necesitan voluntarios para ayudar en otoño en todos los grados para nuestro Programa de Tradición de los Lunes. No se necesita que tenga experiencia. Se proveerá todo el material necesario al igual de una inducción para las clases. Esta sería una excelente oportunidad de compartir el amor de Dios a los jóvenes para que conozcan nuestra fe y la amen sinceramente. Ministerio Desde hace muchos años, nuestra parroquia ha ayudado a estudiantes a su regreso de las clases con todos los materiales que necesitan. “¿Qué hombre puede conocer los designios de Dios o hacerse una idea de lo que quiere el Señor? Los pensamientos de los mortales son indecisos y sus reflexiones, precarias… ¿Y quién habría conocido tu voluntad si tú mismo no hubieras dado la Sabiduría y enviado desde lo alto tu santo espíritu? Así se enderezaron los caminos de los que están sobre la tierra.”
La pregunta del Antiguo Testamento pareciera garantizar que la respuesta es ‘ninguno’. Ya que se nos da el don de las enseñanzas de Jesús, somos capaces de responder de forma diferente ya que se nos ha dado el Espíritu Santo. Sabemos que el plan de Dios es que toda la gente se salve y llegue a saber la verdad. El don del Espíritu Santo permite que ese plan eche raíces en nuestros corazones.
Al igual que Salomón, quien pidió un corazón comprensivo, el don de juzgar correctamente, somos capaces de seguir el plan que Dios tiene para nosotros para que se enderecen nuestros caminos.
Como discípulos misioneros, aceptamos nuestra cruz y seguimos al Señor que se nos ha revelado, nos ha invitado y apoyado en nuestra jornada. Cuando tenga dudas, pida al Espíritu que lo guíe, lo dirija y proteja el camino que ha empezado.
