NINETEENTH SUNDAY
in ORDINARY TIME
AUGUST 11, 2013
PREPARATION
Imagine the following scene: you sit down in your
school desk. The teacher walks the aisle, placing the pa-
per before you, face down. You set your watch. You will
have exactly one hour to do the test. You turn the paper
over. Then it hits you: you never took any notes. You
never studied or did even one assignment. For a student,
lack of preparation is the nightmare of nightmares.
Jesus talks about the need for preparation in today’s
Gospel. God is pleased to give us the kingdom. Jesus
says “Gird your loins and light your lamps.” See that you
are prepared.
Jesus’ teaching reminds us of the question once
posed to St. Francis de Sales and his companions, who,
according to the story, were playing billiards. “What
would you do if you knew the end of the world was
coming in one hour?” The friends of Francis shared vari-
ous plotting of how they would get their affairs in over.
Most mentioned prayer. Francis shrugged, “I would
continue doing what I am doing.”:
Are you ready to meet the Lord? - J.S. Paluch Co.

FEAST:
NO MASS
WED.A.M
In the book of the prophet Isaiah, the Lord cried out, “Whom shall I send?” Isaiah was quick to respond, “Here I am, Lord. Send me!” Being a faithful Christian means that we have to be open to God’s call in our life and to respond to His call using the gifts He has given us! Christian stewardship begins in the home. Are we teaching our children to pray daily, read the bible, help around the house, give time to a family member, and do things for each other as a family unit without being asked? We are never too young to say, “Here I am, Lord. Send me!” Think about it: what gifts has God given us as a family? Each of us, old or young, can make a difference. Will you teach your child to respond to His call to share those gifts? What we are willing to do at home for our families will gradually make the difference in what we are willing to do for our parish families, school families, and Church family. That is what stewardship is about! In His Spirit & Service,
Linda Aranda

WANT TO JOIN THE CHURCH or at least learn about what we believe and why we do the
things we do? RCIA begins SEPTEMBER 8 at 8:45 AM in the Antonian Room. We would
like to know who to expect and plan on welcoming! RCIA (The Rite of Christian Initiation
of Adults) is the process by which one becomes a Catholic or completes Sacraments they
missed along the way (Confirmation, Communion, Marriage blessings) or just learn more of
―the Catholic Way‖. Ask yourself: Could God be inviting me? Is this for me? How do I
sign up? Simply call Janie Banner at 364-7626 OR the church office at 364-6150 to make
an appointment with Father John and bring your birth certificate, baptismal certificate (if you have one) and any other
marriage or divorce documents that are part of your life journey. If you have questions about the process, ask for Janie
(RCIA Director) Or, call one of the Elect/Candidates from last year or this year and ask them what it is all about. They are
ready to share their newfound faith and blessing!
SAM WAS NEAR THE END OF A LONG LIFE. His children stood around the bed, waiting to hear his last words. Finally, he said, “Kids, your mother and I have been married for more than 50 years—
and she can cook like an angel. Even now I smell a strudel baking. Sarah, be a good girl and go get me
a piece.” In a few moments, Sarah was back in the room. “Sarah,” her father asked, “where’s the stru-
del I asked you to get?” “Mama says you can’t have any. It’s for the funeral tomorrow.”
SAINT ANTHONY PARISHIONERS will pray on WED OCT 16 from 8 AM until

* I can’t go back to yesterday — because I was a different person then.” ** Honor those who do right,
love those who do wrong.” *** Interesting how we are quick to judge, but not to be judged.”
Concerning the Baptized! If you are a parish leader or working with RCIA in
your parish, this study time will help you under-
stand more about how to meet the needs of those
who are looking for God in their lives. Do not miss
the opportunity to join others for this Study Time!
Title: Preparing Baptized Adults for
Confirmation and Eucharist Description: This seminar will follow Part II of the
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and present the
specific details needed to accompany Baptized
adults in the completion of their Initiation. As de-
scribed in the Rite, this included those baptized and
uncatechized Roman Catholics or members of other
Christian Churches whose Baptism is deemed valid
by the Roman Catholic Church. Liturgical and cate-
chetical elements will be included in these presenta-
tions. Questions for discussion:
How do we deal with baptized adults in RCIA.
What is the process?
What are some of the resources?
How important is Mystagogy to the process of
RCIA?
How to keep the RCIA team engaged in the minis-
try?
How important is on-going training for RCIA
leaders?
