Dear Friends,

A week ago, we said farewell to Fr. Tony

who was such a great guest to us this

summer. Let us wish him well in his

assignment as Administrator to the parish

of Our Lady of Lourdes in Howland, Lincoln and Danforth.

Blessings from all of us, Fr. Tony!

Our parish will be served by two priests from now into the

foreseeable future. Since August of last year, with the

reassignment of Fr. Steve and Fr. Prabu, we have been praying

that a third priest would be sent to us. Sometimes, God says no.

Our parish will be ministered to by two priests from now into the

foreseeable future.

The lack of priests will remain a reality until young men from our

parish and diocese respond to the call. Also, the Corona Virus

has affected everyone in the world in some way. Visa/green card

registration and processing has been put on hold or the backlog

in processing continues to be daunting even if the embassies or

consulates are open.

I met with our Pastoral Council and the Chairpersons of our 10

church councils last Thursday to discuss how we should move

forward into the future. One thing is clear, we will need greater

lay involvement in each of our local churches.

And lastly, we must accept that things will be different as we

move forward. Two priests cannot offer 12 Masses every week-

end in the parish. Therefore, we will need to make sustainable

changes. These may include the reality that some sites may have

fewer masses or not every single weekend. The faithful may

need to travel to other worship sites on weekends. Perhaps some

churches may have weekend masses on a seasonal basis, while

others may remain open for weddings and funerals only.

Nevertheless, we are fortunate to have a deacon in our parish

who is willing to take part in the changes.

On another note, that directly affects our situation, we need to

encourage our youth to attend faith formation. All of us need to

make this a priority. Our young people are our future. Everyone

has a responsibility in teaching our children and youth.

Registration forms for faith formation are available now. You will

find one on Page 5 of this week’s bulletin and on our website.

The Assumption

Question: What lessons should I learn from the Assumption of Mary?

Answer: Growing in holiness is similar to training in a sport. We need

someone to show us how we can live our faith well. Mary is a model of

sanctity. She shows us how to be faithful to God’s will, living each day with

confidence in God’s mercy and love. At the Nativity, in Jesus’ public ministry,

and at the Crucifixion, we see her steadfast trust. She allows the Lord to use

her life to accomplish his plan for her and for all of us. In the Preface of the

Mass for the Assumption of Mary, we pray: “For today the Virgin Mother of

God was assumed into heaven as the beginning and image of your Church’s

coming to perfection and a sign of sure hope and comfort to your pilgrim

people.”

It is this image of holiness that we strive to imitate. In the office, at home, or

in our community, we look for signs of God’s grace that call us to an ever

greater love of him and each other. A greater awareness of God is a sign of

our conversion of heart that lives the lessons Mary teaches.

Marriage and Coffee ~ Shortly after tying the knot, a young married

couple started arguing over who should make the coffee. Being a

good Christian woman, the wife went to the scriptures for her an-

swer. She said that the Bible specifically stated that men should be

the ones to make the coffee. Puzzled, the husband asked her where

in the Bible it said that. Very confidently, the wife opened up her

Bible and said, “It’s right here — HEBREWS.” The Parish of the Precious Blood has an openings for
