First Sunday of Lent

Dear Friends,

“Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Rice

Bowl is not just about collecting money

in a cardboard box. It is literally and

symbolically a box full of stories of

hope, prayers and opportunities to

help put our faith into action and to

share our Lenten journey with each

other, transforming all our lives.”

Lent is here, and we all know what that

means —Fat Tuesday followed by

foreheads marked with crosses on Ash

Wednesday. It also means “CRS Rice

Bowl time!”

Lent is a 40-day journey of prayer,

fasting and almsgiving. CRS Rice Bowl

makes it easy to experience a Lenten

spirituality of prayer, fasting and mercy

connected to Catholic social teaching.

Rice Bowl brings Lenten spirituality into

the home, where the foundation for a

lifetime of faith begins.

The Rice Bowl itself is full of stories of

hope, prayers and recipes for food and

action from far off places in the world

such as Iraq, Nicaragua, Burkina Faso,

Haiti and Malawi. Rice Bowl also

provides plenty of videos and fun family

take-home activities. Check out

crsricebowl.org for ideas you can do at

home with your children and

grandchildren.

I would like us to focus on the virtue of

charity during Lent Read Matthew 25. I

ask that you leave your rice bowl in a

visible place in your home. Bring in your

rice bowl on Holy Thursday when we

celebrate the summit of Charity: the Holy

Eucharist.

Happy Lent.,

Fr. Dave

LENT 2018 THANK YOU!

The Youth from the Parish of the Precious Blood Youth Ministry

program are humbled by the generous donations given during

the Soup-er Bowl of Caring during Super Bowl Sunday. The

generous funds raised went towards GIFT and Martha & Mary’s

Soup Kitchen in Presque Isle and the Caribou Ecumenical

Food Pantry and Bread of Life Soup Kitchen in Caribou.

It is an important part of our youth program for the youth to

understand the importance of giving to those in need. As part of

our Catholic faith we work towards following the Corporal and

Spiritual Works of Mercy. Feeding the hungry is one of the

Corporal Works we strive to assist with as much as possible.

The donations given during the Soup-er Bowl of Caring will

greatly assist the food pantries and soup kitchens in their

missions to feed those in need.

Knights of Columbus, Council

#1870 Caribou will be holding a

fundraiser. Join us for a Spaghetti

Dinner at Holy Rosary Church on

Saturday, March 3rd from 5:00 to

7:00 with all proceeds to benefit the

Alter Project. Our meal will consist of

spaghetti, roll, salad, beverage and

dessert for $7.00 a plate or $20.00 for

a family.

Catholic Relief Services—Rice Bowls

Join our faith community- and nearly 14,000 Catholic

communities across the United States- in a life-changing

Lenten journey of encounter with CRS Rice Bowl. Pick up

your family’s CRS Rice Bowl located at your church

entrance. During the 40 days of Lent, as companions on the

journey, we will encounter our neighbor. (Don’t forget to try

the recipes found in each bowl!)

Caribou Ecumenical Food Pantry ~ Holy Rosary is a

member of the Caribou Ecumenical Food Pantry. The month

of February is our turn to provide volunteers. Stocking shelves,

packing boxes, cleaning etc. is needed. We are looking for

volunteers for the following dates and times: Tuesdays &

Thursdays, February 15, 20, 22, & 27 from approximately

9:00 AM until 12:00 noon. The phone number to the pantry

is 493-4860. If you have questions please call Mary Green

at 227-4882 or Kim Rohn at 551-2009. Thank you for

supporting the pantry and helping our brothers and sisters in

need!

Fasting from meat on Fridays during Lent helps us “acquire a

mastery over our instincts and freedom of heart.”(CCC 2043).

Fasting is meant to free us. It helps us feel our physical hunger, and

in turn, our spiritual hunger for the infinite love found only in God.
