9. Just as you can’t be exposed to the sun without receiving its rays, neither can you come to Jesus exposed in the Blessed Sacrament without receiving the divine rays of his grace, his love, his peace. "Christ is truly the Emmanuel, that is, God with us, day and night, he is in our midst. He dwells with us full of grace and truth. He restores morality, nourishes virtue, consoles the afflicted, strengthens the weak." (Pope

Paul VI, Mysterium Fidei)

From “Twelve Reasons ...for Wanting To Spend One Hour With Jesus In The Blessed Sacrament”

Saint of the Day July 6 St. Maria Goretti (1890-1902) Virgin and Martyr. The daughter of a poor, Italian, tenant farmer, who died when Maria was nine years old, she and her mother and siblings had to live and work on a neighboring farm owned by the Serevelli family. Their son, Alessandro repeatedly tried to molest Maria. She fought him off valiantly until the last attack when he choked and stabbed her. She died 24 hours later in the

hospital at the age of 12, all the while praying for her mother and her

murderer. She is the patron saint of teenage girls and rape victims.

HELP US DECORATE FOR OUR VACATION BIBLE CAMP

“AROUND THE WORLD IN 5 DAYS!”

DECORATE A PAPER PERSON, return to the church by July 16th !!

General Directions: Supplies are in Narthex of each Church Feel free to use any materials to decorate your paper doll (markers,

construction paper, fabric, string, jewels, etc -- “the sky’s the limit!” ).

Write your name and home church on the back (if you’d like them returned).

Somewhere on the front label write what country your doll represents.

Family Fun Ideas: Research a country you’ve always wanted to visit: What would a boy/ girl wear in that country? Decorate your doll according to that area’s traditional costume. Research a favorite or a new saint: What did your saint wear? How old were they? What are they the patron saint of? Decorate your doll to represent who that saint is and what they represent. Research where your family is from: Where are your family’s ancestors from? Decorate your doll in the traditional outfit that represents where in the world your family came from. Make your “twin”: Try to decorate your doll to be your “mini-me.” Bonus Idea: Whatever country you picked to represent, try making a recipe from that country for dinner and listen to music on YouTube from that country.

For a growing love of each human

person, from conception to natural

death; We pray to the Lord.

That the life of every human person,

from conception to natural death,

might be enshrined and protected in

our laws, We pray to the Lord.

For a growing love of God's little ones,

in the womb, in the nursing home, or at

death's door, That we might love with the

love of Jesus; We pray to the Lord.

Cumberland/Falmouth Food Pantries: Under the direction of Corey Goodrich the Holy Martyrs volunteers -- "Choppy" Candage, Barbara Butler, George Ventresca, Betty Mullin and I assisted at the Cumberland Food Pantry last Friday. This experience is very much an eye opener. The people needing to utilize the pantry are so very appreciative and it has us thanking God for your generous weekly donations. Everyone is friendly, courteous, polite, thankful, and in need. If anyone would like to visit the pantry to view how well it works, please let us know. Jack Mullin 829-5632 St. Vincent de Paul: St. Vincent is so much to so many in need five days a week. From a nutritious lunch to a take home brown bag and free clothing distribution, St. Vincent is the life saver for hundreds a day! Your clothing and cash donations are an integral part in making this operation so successful. Thank you for keeping our narthex container and donation box full. God bless you all. Jack Mullin

Friendship House is a residence in South Portland for formerly homeless men recovering from substance abuse. The first Wednesday of each month, members of our parish contribute prepared hot or cold dishes (dishes may be donated frozen and may be purchased) and grocery items such as

fresh produce, paper products or toiletries, which I take to the men at FH. If you would like to donate something this Wednesday, July 5, please call Deborah Nicklas@ 781-4362. Haiti Program Update: A few days ago on June 23, we joined our sister parish in Haiti to celebrate the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In a Haitian parish, the patron feast day has always been the foremost celebration of the year and was led by the pastor, Father Bertrand Dieuvieille, and the Parochial Vicar, Father Vallery Payan. ~ A commitment - It has been 20 years in which we have worked with the Catholic community of Meyer. Support from our own Parish has been strong and resulted in building of a rectory at Meyer, rebuilding of the church after the 2010 earthquake, and building a Community Center, all accomplished with financial support from our Parish and funding from Catholic foundations. (Parishioners can find a brochure at our churches which describes this work.) ~ The ordinary and extraordinary - We provide financial support of $400 a month for pastoral work at Meyer and a special donation of $3000 in September to enroll children in school. In the past year, there have been occasions where extra help was critical. The October 2016 hurricane hit the south coast of Haiti with devastating impact and emergency help was critical for the parish, the Community Center and to the Parish of St. Therese in Marbial, all for life sustaining needs. ~ Now in mid-2017 - Here is a country which struggles with poverty, extreme weather conditions, lack of electricity, faltering political leadership and government. There is no “quick fix.” In this outreach effort to benefit our sisters and brothers in Haiti, we, Parish of the Holy Eucharist, have tried to provide precious seeds of hope that a future can be better. At least, we can try.
