Ask Father….

Very often questions come up regarding situations we see at church every day...here are a few of them: I see that the tabernacle is at the center behind the altar in other churches. Why is in not in the center here?

Thirty years ago when the present church was built, it was decided to place the tabernacle in its present location. Over the years, it has become a place where people can sit before it, meditate and pray. Some will come and prostrate themselves be-fore it. If it was in the center behind the altar, those people would not be allowed to come into the sanc-tuary and pray in that way. Our tabernacle is not in a hidden area and insofar as it not being “the center” of worship, tell that to the many people who come and prayer before Jesus in the tabernacle.

*******

Speaking of Prayer…

When the present church building was designed and erected 30 years ago, the atrium was established as an area people could gather before and after Mass and meet their fellow parishioners. It also was built as a place to hold events. But, as people gather there, they need to be aware and sensitive to people in prayer or at Mass. Use your “inside” voice when standing there if you see people in the church.

News From Mary’s Meals

It is my pleasure to share with you all that Mary's Meals has officially updated the number of children being fed: Mary's Meals is now feeding 1,667,067 children in 2,940 schools across 18 countries. To put this continued growth in perspective, Mary's Meals has been able to reach an additional 160,000 children just in the last six months. As always, such growth is made possible thanks to the many small acts of great love! As we celebrate this huge growth, we are also reminded that this beautiful work is always about more than numbers, and we remain focused on the goal of reaching the next child in need.

As Magnus has remarked: "...we know from experience that these meals do not only meet the immediate need of the hungry child, they also enable them to grow up, well-nourished and well-educated, to become the young men and women who will lift their communities out of poverty one day. Our vision, that every child in this world receives at least one good meal every day in their place of educa- tion, burns more brightly than ever."

Along with the new feeding number, I also wanted to share with you all that the feeding cost per child per year has risen to $21.00. Why has the average global cost per child increased?

As a low-cost, no-frills charity, we work extremely hard to keep our running costs low and remain committed to en-suring that at least 93% of donations are spent directly on our charitable activities. Over the last three years we have been able to keep the amount it costs to provide each individual child with a nutritious daily meal at a steady rate, within a highly changeable global economic environment with ever-rising costs. As we reach greater numbers of children in increasingly challenging situations, and as prices rise around us, the amount it costs to feed each child has also risen. It now costs $21 to feed a child for a whole school year- and each serving of Mary's Meals costs just $0.11 USD.

Thank you for your continued kindness and generosity and may God Bless you as you help to provide a nutri-tious meal in a place of education!
