Scripture Readings First Reading Exodus 34: 4-6. 8-9 Psalm Daniel 3: 52-56 Second Reading 2 Corinthians 13: 11-13 Gospel John 3: 16-18
A Reflection for Trinity Sunday
In 2018 Dublin hosted the World Meeting of Families.
One of the posters advertising the event had a simple
message: "GOD IS FAMILY. SO ARE WE." It is a simple,
and at the same time profound statement. It contains a
profound truth about God and about ourselves
Firstly, the statement begins with God and it speaks to
us of the Trinity. God is Family - Father, Son and Holy
Spirit. This is the great secret of God's inner life. It is a
love story. This secret has been revealed to the world through the coming of Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
Every time we begin our prayer by blessing ourselves, 'In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy
Spirit', every time we profess our faith in the Creed, we are calling to mind this core Christian belief. We
believe in one God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - a family of persons.
Secondly, the statement then turns to us and it reminds us that we are family too and the "we" refers to
the human family. We are all God's children - connected by family ties.
The Covid19 pandemic has dramatically demonstrated just how interconnected and interdependent the
human family is. A virus that began with one person in China has affected the lives of every human
being across the world. If the pandemic has reminded us of our interconnectedness, it has also shown us
the importance caring for the human family.
Catholic Social Teaching uses the term SOLIDARITY to express this belief that we are one family.

The Church teaches that all humanity is one family, with one origin (God), one Saviour (Jesus Christ) and
one destiny (to be with God). Solidarity means standing together with the suffering and oppressed and it
requires that we see in that person a brother or a sister. We are all children of God.
Solidarity means that we cannot lightly say of the suffering and oppressed, “it’s not my problem” or
“they deserve it” or “they’re far away”. We are all one big family.
We are all part of God's
family and therefore we
should do what we can to
make life better for our
brothers and sisters around
the world.
The feast of the Holy Trinity
speaks to us of the God of
love (Father, Son and Holy
Spirit) and in 2020 it also
speaks to us about the need
for solidarity.
Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen

9th June: St. Columba (Colum Cille), Abbot &
Missionary. Secondary Patron of Ireland
St. Columba, also known as Colum Cille, was born in
Gartan, County Donegal, in 521 and was of royal lineage.
He studied under St. Finnian of Moville and St. Finnian
of Clonard. He founded monasteries in Derry, Durrow,
Iona and possibly Kells. He was a wise teacher and
guided many in holiness, charity and fidelity along the
pathways to heaven. He left Ireland, either for penance
or to be a pilgrim for Christ, but Iona became his
principal foundation. From it, missionaries undertook
the conversion of Northumbria. Columba is noted for his
great love for people and for all living creatures. He died
9th June 597.
Prayer of Blessing for the feast of St. Columba
May the Lord be a sure path beneath your feet,
a bright light before you,
a kindly shepherd behind you;
this day, this night and always.
Amen.

An Ancient Prayer for Protection: St. Patrick’s Breastplate
I bind unto myself today
The strong Name of the Trinity,
By invocation of the same
The Three in One and One in Three.
I bind this today to me forever
By power of faith, Christ’s incarnation;
His baptism in Jordan river,
His death on Cross for my salvation;
His bursting from the spicèd tomb,
His riding up the heavenly way,
His coming at the day of doom
I bind unto myself today.
I bind unto myself today
The power of God to hold and lead,
His eye to watch, His might to stay,
His ear to hearken to my need.
The wisdom of my God to teach,
His hand to guide, His shield to ward;
The word of God to give me speech,
His heavenly host to be my guard.
Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.
I bind unto myself the Name,
The strong Name of the Trinity,
By invocation of the same,
The Three in One and One in Three.
By Whom all nature hath creation,
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
Praise to the Lord of my salvation,
Salvation is of Christ the Lord.
Amen.

If you are looking for a little music to nourish the soul, you might
be interested in a piece that was premiered last Sunday
(Pentecost Sunday, 31st May 2020), entitled The Irish Blessing.
Over 300 Church groups from all over the island united online and
sang a blessing over Ireland and beyond. The Irish Blessing is
dedicated to each and every one of our key workers and those they care for on the island of Ireland .It is
available on YouTube. Visit the website at https://theirishblessing.com
Parish Draw 500 Club The winners for Week 38 are: Marie Moss and Deirdre McBrien. Congratulations to the lucky winners. Each receives £50.
St. Bernadette's SVP conference Dear Parishioners,
despite the Covid 19 crisis the work of St. Bernadette's SVP conference
has not stopped. We continue to provide vital assistance to those in
need. Our main source of income has always been your generous
donations via the red box collections after Mass. Unfortunately the
cessation of public Mass has understandably seen a significant
reduction in donations. If you are able to, could you please consider
making a donation via the Holy Rosary presbytery (marking your
envelope St. Bernadette's SVP)? Your generosity, as always is very much appreciated and never so
important as in this health and economic crisis.
Parish Collections Many thanks to all those who have been able to contribute to the
parish finances through standing order, PayPal or the parish
envelopes.
We recognise that this is a time of financial worry for many, and for
that reason giving to the parish should be secondary to your own
particular needs.

Foodbank at Good Shepherd Parish Centre The Food Bank is staffed by volunteers from Bredagh GAC, Ormeau
Boxing Club, and Rosario Football Club & Youth Centre. It is open
each weekday from 10am to 12pm in the Good Shepherd Parish
Centre. We would greatly appreciate donations of non-perishable
food items at this time of great need. Money donations are also
welcome.
Trócaire Every year Trócaire asks for your help during Lent to fund
lifesaving programmes around the world. This year, of
course, it was not possible to return Trócaire boxes through
schools or parishes in the usual way. This is the worst
possible timing coming just as the world’s poorest people
need us most. Therefore, Trócaire are appealing to you to
return your Lenten donation. Simply count or estimate what
is in your box and donate in the following ways:
1. Online at www.trocaire.org
2. By phone: 0800 912 1200
3. By post to Trócaire, 10 King Street, Belfast, BT1 6AD
4. Alternatively retain your box until it is safe to return your donation and for parishes to accept them.
The contents of each and every Trócaire box, no matter how small, come together to make a significant
difference. This virus knows no borders, but neither does our compassion.
The Lenten Soup & Bread lunch initiative held in the Good Shepherd Parish Centre at the beginning of
March ’20 has raised £784.33 in aid of - TRÓCAIRE, Sharing Fair and Marys Meals. The organisers would
like to sincerely thank those who helped out and those who called in to show support; your generous
contributions have raised vital funds for these charitable organisations.

Sacred Heart Novena
The feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is celebrated this year on
Friday 19th June 2020.
Each year the Sacred Heart Messenger publication produces a
nine day Novena in preparation for the feast. It is held for the
nine days leading up to the Feast of the Sacred Heart, which is
always celebrated nineteen days after Pentecost. This year the
Novena runs from Thursday 11th June - Friday 19th June.
The Novena prayers are available as a pull-out supplement in the
June Messenger. This year, as a way of encouraging and
supporting Messenger readers and promoters, and as a way to
help us all to pray, the 2020 Novena has been made available to
download from the Messenger website FREE OF CHARGE.
DOWNLOAD THE 2020 SACRED HEART NOVENA FOR FREE!
Simply visit www.messenger.ie/sacred-heart-novena-2020/ and either view the booklet
on your computer or print it off to use during each day of the Novena.
The image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus speaks of God's boundless and passionate love for humanity. In
the past many have found comfort and solace praying this Novena, and this year we have particular
reason as a community, a nation and a global people to find strength, patience and reassurance in God’s
love for us.
