WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS!

A Father Looks Back Longtime country music singer Kenny Rogers has a song called “Water and Bridges,” which highlights a father's pain after losing a child to abortion. Rogers told CNN that the song is not about him, but is “really about choices you make when you're young that you pay for when you're old.” He goes on to explain, “It starts off with a young couple who have an abortion, and the guy says, ‘If a father could hold his son, I could undo what’s been done, but I guess everyone is living with water and bridges.’” Counseling and healing is available for any man or woman who has lost a child to abortion. Happy Father’s Day to all Fathers, Grandfathers and substitute Fathers!

Thank you for being there for us!

Boy Scout Troop 68 Needs Your Help! A Boy Scout is always prepared and Boy Scout Troop 68 is modeling that idea by seeking out a new home to store our trailer and bags of cans between crushes. This is a very valuable fundraiser that helps our boys and the environment and having a place to serve as “cans central” is key to its success. “Cans central” could be a field or wooded area or even a commercial garage bay that can contain bags of cans, our can trailer, and a small storage shed of supplies throughout the year. A location in Meredith, Laconia or Gilford would be preferred to ease transportation of cans and trailer, and to get scouts to and from the location for crushing.

Please contact Betsy Damon by email: [email protected] or by phone/text message, 603-275-3194 if you have that place and would like to help the troop. We thank you in advance for your support and generosity!

“Heart to Head” The Heart to Head Series will be held this week at 7 P.M. on Tuesday or 10 A.M. on Wednesday morning. Our topic is “Knowing the Father's Love”.

We will meet in the Upper Conference Room at the new Pastoral Center. The only cost is your time, and there is no need to register. If you want to better know the love of God the Father, you are welcome to join us. Come in the back door and take the elevator to the 2nd floor.

“This is how it is with the kingdom of God.” What is a kingdom? Is it the brick and mortar that build up the castle? Is it the expanse of land a king can reasonably defend? Our notions of kingdoms may be romanticized in the modern era, but for the Israelites, a

kingdom held deep historical meaning. Thousands of years before the birth of Christ, the Israelites had asked God for a king. After the reigns of David and Solomon, the united kingdom dissolved into factions, and the land was conquered by the Assyrians, Babylonians, and, finally, Romans. For the Israelites, a kingdom was something to build, both structurally and civilly. While this had ended in ruin for their ancestors, many of Jesus’ contemporaries longed for the restoration of an earthly kingdom.

Jesus’ words in today’s Gospel are a radical departure from this perspective. He compares the Kingdom of God to a field, but it appears that the farmer has little to do with its progress. “The seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how. Of its own accord, the land yields fruit.” Jesus introduces his followers to a new sort of kingdom, a kingdom where God provides the growth.

There is work to be done, of course. “When the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once, for the harvest has come.” But for the Kingdom of God to flourish, there are certain things that are outside of our control. We sow seeds of kindness, justice, and integrity, and then we must be patient. As shoots of faith appear, we nurture the growth with encouragement. As Christians, our task is not to build the Kingdom of God under our power alone, but to trust in the life-giving movement of God.
