Pastor’s Message: Travel Through the Tunnel This global pandemic is compared to many things. It is the focus of politicians, scientists, doctors and preachers. One of the preachers tries to see it as an awaking call to reset political agendas, to deal with economic breakdown and to attend to a severely damaged eco-system and to enrich our family ties.
Many have labeled this as a “new normal”. This pandemic is re-educating us in this self- isolation. The world will be different. We are passing through the historic, monumental door that opens into a completely new world …a different world…a New Normal.
This reminds me of my travels to Croatia with Msgr. Shiels. We flew to Ljubljana in Slovenia and from there we drove to the Adriatic Coast. As we were approaching Opatija, a nice costal touristy town - we went through a long 15 km tunnel.
Before entering the tunnel - especially on Slovenian side - we saw a beautiful Alpine vista with lush forests and meadows. Then through the tunnel it was dark, narrow, claustrophobic and there was no turning back. As we approached the light at the end of tunnel, everybody slows down to put on sunglasses or shades not to be blinded by the light. Awaiting us is a completely new experience of bare mountains, costal vistas, blue water, and the salty air of the Adriatic Sea.
That is what I call TRAVEL THROUGH THE TUNNEL! You emerge to something New and Different!
Today we are in this tunnel of darkness - separated, lonely, and sometime claustrophobic but it is improving every day. There is a light at the end of tunnel. We should become renewed and deepen our belonging, define our purpose and experience God’s love.
On this Good Shepherd Sunday, we read in the Psalm, The Lord is my shepherd, even though I walk in the darkest valley I fear no evil for you are with me”.
We need to be open to change. Jesus constantly calls us to a new life, a new way. We pray for all of you and your families. We miss you and we love you and we hope soon to see you again.

An Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most
Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen

Good Shepherd Sunday Who is the Good Shepherd? In the Gospel of John, the Good Shepherd is described as Jesus, and we are His Sheep. We are united together as One flock and One Shepherd.
A Good Shepherd is one who cares for his Sheep. He says, I am the Good Shepherd, and I know My Sheep and My Sheep know me. He wants to carry us on His shoulders and take all our problems away. He wants to bring us His love of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
The Good Shepherd lays down His life for His Sheep. He does not say, I am a Good Shepherd; He says I am the Good Shepherd!
Jesus is the role model and is the best example of a Good Shepherd. We learn from His examples, on how to love one another, and to forgive each other, as He will always forgive us, no matter how big our sins are, if we return to Him, with trust, obedience, and fidelity. Jesus is the ultimate gate that will lead us to holiness and eventually to Heaven.
If the sheepfold reminds us of a safe place for His sheep, can you imagine how great Heaven would be to us one day?
A Good Shepherd can also be anyone who is in an authority or in a leadership position. Examples are, a Bishop of a Diocese, he who takes care of all his Priests and laypeople; a priest in a Parish, he takes care of his Church and his parishioners; the head of a family household or the father figure, who is responsible to take care of his family in a loving and caring way.
How does He call His sheep? The shepherd knows each of His individual sheep. He calls them each by their name. The sheep knows the good shepherd, hears their names, and trusts His voice and will follow and go where the shepherd leads them.
Why is He “Good?” God’s love for us is enormous and it is infinite. His unselfishness was so great, that He died for us on the Cross, so that all humanity can be saved, from the consequences of our sins. Three days later, His resurrection proves to us that He is Divine and has the power to give us new life. He loves, protects, and guides us throughout our lives. He is aware of all our weaknesses and strengths. He knows us more than we even know ourselves.
His love for us does not ever stop, even at times when we are led astray from Him, he continues to love and care for us, endlessly. He gives us the choice to obey, His voice of love.
Why should we listen to the Good Shepherd? During this challenging time of uncertainty and hardship which we are all facing, we need to listen to
the Good Shepherd. We need to open our hearts, trust in his presence, and follow God and he will look after us in return.
Also, we need to remind ourselves to be in a continuous relationship with God, to pray every day, listen to His voice, attend Mass (even if it’s virtual}, and be faithful to His teachings in the Bible.

Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me
beside quiet waters., He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s
sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod
and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my
enemies. You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. ___________________________________________
Share Your Blessings
There are many stories from ShareLife agencies that demonstrate how our support makes a difference. Here is a simple one from Camp Ozanam. A young boy showed up for a week-long camp with a bag of chips and nothing else. He came to camp without any clothes or toiletries. The staff at the camp took him into town to purchase clothes and other essential items he would need for the duration of his stay. Sometimes the needs are not obvious, but they are there. This is where ShareLife comes in to help. PAG For ShareLife Monthly PAG is a simplified way of contributing to ShareLife over the course of a year. Please contact the parish office via phone or email to make a contribution / information on how you can contribute or email the diocese at [email protected] or call 416-934-3411. Thank you supporting ShareLife! ___________________________________________
