PASTORAL CARE Kindly remember in your prayers the sick of our parish. May they experience the healing power of our gracious God: Matthew Augustine, Filomena Bocchino, Bridget Hochstuhl, Jim Klucharits, James Latham, and Dan Plaza.
ONLINE GIVING
TRANSITIONING TO WeShare Our current online giving provider, ParishPay, has been acquired by Liturgical Publications (LPi). All ParishPay accounts will be transitioned to WeShare, LPi’s online giving platform, later in the summer. We do not need to do anything for this transition process. All information will be transferred electronically following the strictest security protocol. Once the transition is complete, each participant will receive more information about how to login and manage their account on WeShare. Thank you for using online giving to support our parish. Online giving is safe, simple, and convenient. The practice of Christian stewardship in doing online giving provides the opportunity for planned giving in what we offer back to God. It benefits our parish by helping to streamline our administrative process and at the same time provides more accurate budgeting. Anyone who wants to join online giving can use the link provided on our website.

MASSES FOR THE WEEK STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE
May 21, 2017-6th Sunday of Easter—“For it is better to suffer for
doing good, if that be God’s will, than for doing evil.” 1 PETER 3:17—
The old line says “if you want to make God laugh, tell him your
plans.” Many of us are diligent in our planning, making sure
things are progressing smoothly, then disaster strikes, we don’t
get the result that was intended. An unforeseen problem arises.
Many times we may respond negatively. Why me? I did
everything right! Here’s the thing – God has a different and better
plan in store for you.

In a Christian sense, a steward is the manager of the affairs of God
on earth. Everything we have, time, talent and treasures are given to
us by God. Our offering (weekly contributions) is a symbolic act. Our
money makes it possible for the Church to pay its bills and carry out
its mission in Christ’s name. Thank you for your generosity.
BUILDING & KEY SECURITY
St. Matthew’s has re-keyed the front doors. A Key Control System is essential to the security of our building. Please contact the office a few days in advance of your meeting and speak to Terry, Leslie or Karen to let them know if you need a key or to see if anyone else will be in the building at the same time as your meeting. Thank you.

ASCENSION THURSDAY
This Thursday, May 25th, is the feast of the Ascension of the Lord, a
Holy Day of Obligation, the 40th day after Easter. The Ascension of
the Lord is one of the most important feasts of the Easter season as
we celebrate Jesus’ return to the Father in heaven. He is set free
from the earthly realities that bind him so to prepare a place in
heaven for us. Mass times at St. Matthew’s are 8:00 am & 7:30 pm.
CONGRATULATIONS TO KAREN SAMMOND We are pleased to announce that Karen Sammond will be the
recipient this year of the VIVERE CHRISTUS award for St. Matthew
the Apostle Parish. The award is given by the Diocese of Paterson
for a persons (s) who truly live the call to lay ministry in the Church.
The translation of VIVERE CHRISTUS is TO LIVE CHRIST. Karen
has been actively involved in our parish in many facets: fundraising,
funeral ministry and ministry to the sick and homebound and the
Faith Kitchen. She is well deserving of such recognition. The award
will be given by Bishop Serratelli in Sept. 2017 at St John's Cathedral
in Paterson.

SACRAMENTAL GUIDELINES FOR CATHOLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS—Per Diocesan Policy, all Catholic School students preparing for reception of Confirmation are to participate in their Parish Community’s Sacramental preparation programs. Students entering 9th grade in September 2017 are reminded to enroll for Faith Formation classes. The preparation and the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation are parish-based. The parish is the center of lifelong faith development; therefore, it is essential to integrate youth into the life of the parish. Students who attend Catholic high schools and wish to be prepared for the Sacrament of Confirmation need to enroll in their parish Confirmation program. (from Sacramental Policies and Guidelines, Diocese of Paterson) Please register your child as stated above. If you have any questions please contact Moira A. Dziomba, Dir. of Faith
Formation (contact info on front of bulletin)
ATTENTION: KINDERGARTEN PARENTS
St. Matthew’s Sacrament Preparation is a two year process
beginning in the 1st grade. If your child is entering 1st grade in
September 2017, please register for our Faith Formation classes.
Diocesan guidelines specify that children must be enrolled in formal
faith formation classes for one year prior to the reception of
sacraments. Participation in these preparation classes will allow
your child to receive 1st Reconciliation and 1st Eucharist in Grade 2.
Registrations are available in the Gathering Space or at
www.stmatthewsrandoph.org. Please contact Moira A. Dziomba,
Director of Faith Formation with any questions. (See front of the

A MESSAGE FROM FR. DAN
WELCOME OUR NEW PASTOR
Bishop Arthur Serratelli, Bishop of Paterson has assigned Fr. Sean
McDonnell as the new pastor of St Matthew the Apostle parish
effective June 29,2017. Fr Sean is the present pastor of Our Lady
of Mercy parish in Whippany. He happens to be third cousin of Fr.
Dave McDonnell, the founding pastor of St. Matthew’s. The Irish
dynasty for St Matthew’s continues. What a blessing! I believe Fr.
Sean will fit in very well with the pastoral staff and the people of St.
Matthew’s. In the times I have been in his presence I have found
him to be very warm and engaging, open to people and supportive
of the role of lay people in the Church. I know you will welcome him
warmly and continue to build with him upon the foundation of our
community.
