From Your Pastor ~ Fr. Jeff Mollner

Pope Francis was recently talking about God’s mercy, and how

we as Christians need to respond to the gift of God’s mercy. He

said “Mercy warms the heart and makes it sensitive to the needs

of our brothers and sisters with sharing and participation.” We

believe that God’s mercy is available to anyone who seeks it with

sincere repentance. The Church also tells us that we are also

called to live out mercy through acts of generosity towards our

brothers and sisters. We are best able to respond to this call

when we live out the Corporal Works of Mercy; feeding the

hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, giving shelter to the homeless,

visiting the sick, visiting those in prison, burying the dead, and

giving alms to the poor. This weekend we are taking up a

second collection for the Wayne Association of Congregations

and Ministers. This coalition of the churches in Wayne works

together to meet the financial needs of the poor in our town. We

help with food, clothing, gas and electric bills, fuel, and shelter.

As is often the case, the needs of the poor outweigh our means

of helping. This special collection will go a long way in helping

those in need.

I would also like to say thank you to our Fair Stand Committee

and to all who have put so much time into the fair stand. Please

pray for favorable weather and a successful fair to all who are

involved.
