The Diocesan Office of Restorative Justice / Detention Ministry is in need of

Forever Postage Stamps for our annual “Operation Christmas Spirit.”

Each year we collect 7,000 donated postage stamps and Christmas Cards to be distributed throughout our local jails and juvenile detention facilities. It gives the incarcerated populations we serve an opportunity to give back to their families and loved ones by sending them a simple Christmas greeting that they could not otherwise do without your generous contribution. Congress – “Embrace Trust”

The Religious Education Congress is the largest event of its kind in the world. It has continued its original objective of offering in-service education and spiritual formation to those in catechetical and related ministries. Diocesan Wedding Anniversary Mass

All are invited to attend the Mass which celebrates the joy of Christian marriage, but this Mass is especially intended for those celebrating 15+ years in 2017. It will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Arboretum at Christ Cathedral. Bishop Vann will be the celebrant, and anniversary couples will have the opportunity to take a photo with him. Photos will be available the day of the event. Couples will also be presented with a certificate in honor of their marriage anniversary. Registration fee is $20 per couple. A reception for anniversary celebrants and their guest follows the Mass and will be held in the First Floor of the Cultural Center. $10.00 for each additional ADULT (16+ years) reception guest of the anniversary couple - must be registered and paid in advance. PREGUNTA DE REFLEXION DE LA SEMANA

MENSAJE DE LA SEMANA: En el camino del ADVIENTO, hemos llegado al último domingo. Por eso la liturgia de este domingo

nos insiste en la preparación para poder celebrar estas fiestas con verdadero sentido cristiano, abiertos a Dios, que se hace presente en medio de nosotros (es “ENMANUEL”) y a los hermanos que

viven junto a nosotros.

Tenemos, ciertamente, el peligro de vivir estas fiestas excesivamente encerrados en nosotros mismos y en el gozo de la intimidad familiar, sin preocuparnos de extender ese gozo a nuestros

hermanos, especialmente a aquéllos que más necesitan. Y esto es lo contrario de lo que nos ofrecen estos días tan significativos. Aquí es donde debemos encuadrar la llamada de CÁRITAS, esa llamada especial a sentirnos sensibles a las necesidades de los que peor lo pasan entre nosotros, también en

estas fechas.

En este clima, nos aprestamos a la inminente fiesta de la Navidad. Dios viene a salvarnos, pero se presenta en apariencias pobres. De ahí que no sea fácil reconocerle si “no se está en onda”. Es necesario prepararnos. Que el ENCUENTRO con Aquél que puede salvarnos sea una realidad.

Congreso de Educación Religiosa de Los

Ángeles – “Confía”

El Congreso de Educación Religiosa es el evento más grande de su clase a nivel mundial. Ha continuado su objetivo inicial de ofrecer formación de fe y espiritual para quienes están envueltos en su parroquia. Atrae a más de 40,000 participantes durante los cuatros días que se lleva a cabo y ofrece más de 300 talleres que abarcan temas desde espiritualidad, música, y desarrollo personal hasta estudios bíblicos y catequéticos. ¡Inscríbete ahora! Puedes inscribirte en línea en www.RECongress.org pagando con tarjeta de crédito, o puedes pasar por un paquete de inscripción en la oficina del Centro Pastoral, u oficina de Educación Religiosa. El congreso se llevará a cabo en el Anaheim Convention Center en 800 W. Katella Ave. en la ciudad de Anaheim. El costo es de $70 por persona hasta el 13 de enero. Después de esta fecha, incrementará el costo. Las fechas son del 24 al 26 de febrero del 2017.

Clases en Invierno 2017

Si desea aprender sobre el rol de María en la salvación y en la historia a

través del lente de la Cristología, o la historia del movimiento ecuménico

antes y después del Concilio Vaticano II, la Oficina del Instituto para el

Ministerio Pastoral (IPM) ofrecerá estas clases en el invierno. Las clases

inician el 3 de enero 3, 2017 en la Catedral de Cristo

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE

La tradición mexicana de las Posadas se acompaña de las tradicionales piñatas. Aunque hay piñatas de animales y caricaturas, la piñata original es una estrella con siete picos. La piñata llegó al continente con los misioneros agustinos procedentes de España, mismos que la habían recibido de italianos; y éstos, a su vez, la obtuvieron de Marco Polo quien conoció decoraciones de animales coloridos en China. El asociar la piñata con las Posadas viene de la cultura Náhuatl quienes celebraban a Huitzilopochtli (dios de la guerra) del 17 al 26 de diciembre. Estos ponían cazuelas de barro decoradas con listones y plumas sobre palos en el templo. Al romperlas, tesoros y alhajas caían a los pies de su dios. Los misioneros mezclaron las dos costumbres para la catequesis. La estrella de siete picos representa al diablo y los 7 pecados capitales, mientras que la venda en los ojos es la fe en Cristo. El acto de pegarle a la piñata son nuestros esfuerzos cristianos a pesar de las desorientaciones que trae la vida. Romper la piñata es estar bañado con la gracia del Espíritu Santo y recibir los dones de Dios.

Cada año, recaudamos 7,000 estampillas/timbres y tarjetas Navideñas, para distribuir por toda nuestras cárceles y centros de detención de juveniles, en el condado de Orange. Esto le permite a los encarcelados, que servimos, una oportunidad de contactar y mandar un mensaje a sus seres queridos, enviándoles un sentimiento sencillo que, de otra manera, no sería posible sin su contribución. Aceptamos su contribución durante cualquier temporada del año.
