GRADUATIONS Do you have a child graduating from high school or college this year? Please let the office know so we can recognize their achievements in the bulletin.

THE GREAT ADVENTURE CONTINUES!

The Great Adventure continues on through The Book of Joshua. If this is too much to read, concentrate on chapters 1-4, 6-8, and 23-24, but be sure to focus on “the Big Picture.”

Missed the initial sign-ups? It’s not too late to get started on the Great Adventure! — The DVDs are packed with good information and discussions are wonderful! Don’t delay, call Diane or any staff member today and jump right in!

Fact: There is a theory among some modern students of the Bible that the book of Joshua is actually a sixth book of the Pentateuch (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, Numbers), thus forming a Hexateuch. These scholars have two reasons for this: the Book of Joshua completes the story of the fulfillment of the covenant and the conquest of the Promised Land; and it appears to have come from the same sources as the Pentateuch.

Over 50 families have signed up for either June 12 or June 13. We still have room available. Sign-up sheets are on the bulletin board in the commons. Remember...you will receive a copy of the directory by having your picture taken. This is the directory Father Remi takes with him...make it complete!

MAY 24, 2009 The Gift of Today… Today, I will delete from my journal two days: yesterday and tomorrow. Yesterday was to learn from and tomorrow...well that will be the consequence of what I can do today. Today, I will face life with the sure knowledge that this day will never return. Today, is the last opportunity I have to live intensely, as no one can assure me that I will see tomorrow’s sunrise. Today, I will be brave enough not to let any opportunity pass me by, my only alternate is to succeed. Today, I will invest my most valuable resource: my time in the most transcendental work: my life. Today, I will spend each minute passionately, to make today a different and unique day in my life. Today, I will defy every obstacle that appears on my way, trusting I will succeed. Today, I will resist pessimism, and will conquer the world with a smile and the positive attitude of always expecting the best. Today, I will make of every ordinary task a sublime expression. Today, I will have my feet on the ground, understand reality and the stars’ gaze, and thus will invent my future. Today, I will take the time to be happy and will leave my footprints and my presence in the hearts of others, not just in the sands of time. Today, I invite you to begin a new season where we can dream that everything we undertake is possible and we fulfill that dream, with joy and dignity.

Stewardship… What it is: What it is not: It is Spiritual It is not temporary It is Biblical It is not new It is a way of giving It is not a way of back what has just getting into been given to us our pocketbooks It s a way of using It is not a our Parish ministries fundraiser It is a Way of Life It is not just a program

What Do You Want from Me?

Dear God, Jesus tells us to give to You what is Yours. What do You want from me? What can I give to You? As a young person still growing and developing, I don’t have much to offer financially. I can make a small financial contribution to the church, to poor people...but is it enough? What more can I give? I can offer my time and talents to serve. I can sing, play an instrument, draw posters, greet visitors, clean, decorate, organize, cook, bake and telephone. I can help teach children, lector or usher,...but is it enough? What more can I give? I can reach out to serve and share Your love at home, in my neighborhood, my school, my community...but is it enough? What more can I give? Speak to me and I will listen. Amen

The Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter has traditionally been celebrated as the Feast of the Ascension. Presently many dioceses, including the diocese of Richmond, have transferred this feast to the Seventh Sunday of Easter so that it can more easily be celebrated by all. When celebrated on that Thursday, it marks the beginning of a novena that concludes with the feast of Pentecost. During this time we emphasize preparation for the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. The hymn "Veni, Creator Spiritus" can be used each day. In former times, some parishes extinguished the Paschal Candle with great solemnity to symbolize the departure of the Lord to the right hand of the Father. Now, it remains near the altar and ambo until the conclusion of the feast of Pentecost, when it returns to its place near the Baptistry.
