Learning and Living Our Catholic FaithDear Parishioners of St. Mary's, and all People of Prayer,We have begun asking the intercession of Mary under her local title, "Our Lady of the Rivers," as of Easter Sunday 2020.

On Easter Monday, April 13, the St. Mary's OMV Community visited and prayed at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rivers, and asked her to intercede on behalf of our Parish, all the local parishes, the Riverbend, Portage des Sioux and the entire world.

We promised we would lead a pilgrimage there in thanksgiving for her intercession on our behalf. Please join us in praying a Rosary each day for this intention. Please spread the word and invite others, no matter who they are, or where they are to join us in this prayer.

God bless you all. Our Lady of the Rivers, Pray for us.

– Fr. Jeremy, Fr. Dave, Fr. Ben, Fr. Paul, Br. Leland and Dcn. Jim

2020 PRAYER FOR DELIVERANCEThe power of prayerIn 1951, the people of Portage des Sioux prayed to be delivered from the rising flood waters of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. Their prayers were answered! In fact, the place got its name from the place where the Sioux tribesmen carried (portaged) their canoes over land to escape the grasp of their enemy Missouri warriors. This is a place of deliverance, and it is a place that Mary has proven the power of her intercession!

Join together with all believers in the Riverbend area in asking for the protection and deliverance that Our Lady of the Rivers can obtain for us again, as we face the threat of the coronavirus here.

Every day, as we pray the Rosary, let us offer this prayer to Our Lady of the Rivers. When the danger has passed, we will go together to visit her riverside shrine in a pilgrimage of thanksgiving.

Our prayerOur Lady of the Rivers,

when the rising waters threatened to overwhelm us,you came to our rescue, just as so many years before,

the Sioux escaped certain death where you now stand.Hear us, your sons and daughters, who again cry out in our need.As the threat of contagion rises like a flood, steer us by the light

of your crown and Rosary into the Great River of Christ’s Peace and Life,to the safe harbor of His Sacred Heart, through whom we beg this

deliverance. Who lives and reigns with the Father,in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.

Amen.

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAYFocus: We are reconciled to God, in his Divine Mercy,

through his Son.

The Church continues to celebrate and give thanks for the mystery of the Resurrection. God has anointed his only Son as our Savior and Redeemer. So with hearts full of hope, joy, and faith, let us be reconciled to God in his Divine Mercy and share that mercy with the world.

Saint Luke describes the early Christian community, as they devoted themselves to prayer, the communal life…[and]…the breaking of bread. Peter’s Letter stresses the living hope that believers now have through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. In John’s Gospel, the resurrected Jesus appears to his disciples, saying, Peace be with you and showing them his wounds. He breathes on them, and says, receive the Holy Spirit and grants them the authority to forgive sins. Later, he convinces Thomas of the truth of the Resurrection.

PART ONE - THE PROFESSION OF FAITHSECTION ONE - "I BELIEVE" - "WE BELIEVE"

Man’s Response To God / I Believe – The Characteristics of Faith

166. Faith is a personal act - the free response of the human person to the initiative of God who reveals himself. But faith is not an isolated act. No one can believe alone, just as no one can live alone.

You have not given yourself faith as you have not given yourself life. The believer has received faith from others and should hand it on to others. Our love for Jesus and for our neighbor impels us to speak to others about our faith. Each believer is thus a link in the great chain of believers. I cannot believe without being carried by the faith of others, and by my faith I help support others in the faith.

Although we cannot hold the event in person this year, please consider a donation to support the costs of forming future Oblate priests and brothers. See https://omvusa.salsalabs.org/galagift or contact Gina Lewis, [email protected]. Please join us to pray for vocations and for our seminarians.

The Necessity of Divine MercyFr. Chris Alar, MIC, reveals the urgency to live and share the powerful message of Divine Mercy. He explains the basics of the Divine Mercy feast, image, novena, chaplet, and hour of mercy, and how to incorporate them into your spiritual life.

PRAYER CORNERFrom the Divine mercy Chaplet

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion

— inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us,

that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent,

but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will,

which is Love and Mercy itself.

We will not be able to offer our Mother’s Day cards this year. But you may call the Parish Office with your intention (please leave a voice message), drop-off your intention along with a free-will offering to the Parish Office after-hours drop box or e-mail Tricia Conrad ([email protected]) with your requests. Chaplet of Divine Mercy PrayersIntroductionYou expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.

Repeat 3 times: O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You!

Our Father, Hail Mary, Apostles' Creed

For each decadeEternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

Repeat 10 times: For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

ConclusionAfter 5 decades, repeat 3 times: Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

That Man Is You (TMIY) is suspended indefinitely because

of the Coronavirus. Please watch for information regarding

its beginning again.

– FAMILY HEARTS –While having to use Facebook livestream to celebrate our daily Masses and the recent Holy Week liturgies, we’ve come to realize there’s a distinct void in our church. We’ve made every effort to fill that void by adding the beautiful fragrance of lilies and filling it with songs of praise, but something is still missing: YOU!

We’d like to invite our parishioners and all our children to decorate family hearts. You can decorate one for the whole family or let each family member create their own masterpiece.

Some ideas? What you love and miss about St. Mary’s, the most important things about your faith, the friends and extended family you wish you could see, your patron saint(s), etc.

Bring your decorated hearts to church and place them in the baskets at the church entrances or in the dropbox at the parish office. You may also email your decorated hearts to [email protected], and we will print them for you. This way, we can gather the hearts and decorate the pews with your hearts!

The sky’s the limit so let’s fill those pews!

P.S. This is another coloring, gluing, painting activity for the children that gives the parents a quick rest.
