Actor, educator and Holy Trinity Lector Douglas Hertler, aka Doug Loury, will present his one-man show, Merton & Me – A Living Trinity, here at Holy Trinity on Saturday, Sept. 21st, 2:00 PM. Merton and Me explores the struggles of youth, the complexities of faith and the universal search for meaning in an increasingly chaotic and divided world. Thomas Merton is often associated with the very idea of Contemplation, which has been described as “an immediate and in some sense passive intuition of the inmost reality, of our spiritual self and of God present within us.” A must-see for long-time devotees of Merton and those new to this modern-day American monk. The Medicine of Mercy “Nowadays the Spouse of Christ prefers to make use of the medicine of mercy rather that that of severity. She considers that she meets the needs of the present day by demonstrating the validity of her teaching rather than by condemnations …” Opening Address of Vatican II, Saint [Pope] John XXIII, 1962

PASS THIS PARAGRAPH ALONG TO A LOVED ONE WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM IT

“Come Home, Catholics!” by Lorene Hanley Duqin, Our Sunday Visitor

You can always “come home” to your Church. You can start going to Sunday Mass again, be nourished by Scripture and Holy Communion, and become a part of parish community that is ready to welcome you with open arms. God invites each of us to “dive into our faith” in a deeper way than we ever have before. You may already be feel-ing an inner pull to look at the Church again – it might be God drawing you back to Himself. He never forces; He only invites. He leaves the decision to return to the Church up to you. Here are ten reasons that influence the decision of many to return to the practice of their faith: Number 10: Because we want meaning in life. Number 9: Because childhood memories surface. Number 8: Because we made mistakes. Number 7: Because we need to forgive others. Number 6: Because we want to be healed. Number 5: Because the Catholic Church has the fullness of truth and grace. Number 4: Because we want our children to have a faith foundation. Number 3: Because we want to be part of a Community of Faith. Number 2: Because we want to help other people. Number 1: Because we hunger for the Eucharist.

¡Gloria a tí, Señor Jesús! * * * * * * * *

Literature Have you noticed the literature racks are empty! It must be August! Yes. Glad you noticed. Ordering is in progress, and by the beginning of the new Parish Year (Sep-May), interesting Catholic Updates will fill the racks for us life-long learners.
