Saturday Upon arrival in Paris, transfer to your apartment on the Ile Saint-Louis or to your hotel of choice. Remainder of the day at leisure to explore your new neighborhood on your own. Evening – 6pm: Meet Micène for cocktail party and catered supper in another private apartment on the Ile Saint-Louis. This also serves as an ori-entation session where we address administrative and practical details.

How to book your tripRegistration form enclosed. $2,995 CEU-only package in-cludes continuing education credits, ground transportation (métro, batobus and/or motor coach as needed), entrance fees, two (2) dinner cocktail parties, architectural guide’s fees and all site entrance fees. See “Terms & Conditions” and “Program Inclusions” sections for details.

BOOK... A ROOM WITH A VIEWWe have arranged for Guest Apartment Services, an inde-pendent contractor not in any way affiliated with Design Arts Seminars, Inc., to procure lodgings in private luxury apartments on the Ile Saint Louis in Paris from Saturday July 31 through Saturday August 7, 2010. Since you book your lodging directly, you may decide to extend your stay and also have the option to select the hotel of your choice. If you wish to book one of the apartments, please visit http://www.guestapartment.com and click on “Proper-ties” to select your apartment. Though we strongly sug-gest selecting your own apartment, if preferred, we are glad to arrange the booking for you – just let us know the number of bedrooms you need, your preferred budget per night or week, and your credit card number and expiration date.

We personally met with Philippe and Christophe who own Guest Apartment Services and also visited several of the apartments. You will be delighted with the apartments and with the services offered. Should you prefer not to stay in a private apartment, you may want to consider stay-ing at a small boutique hotel on the Ile Saint Louis. Please note that the 30-room Hotel du Jeu de Paume is in a 17th century building, so the rooms, though quiet and charm-ing, are not very large. We strongly suggest visiting the hotel’s website at www.jeudepaumehotel.com for pictures and more information. You may also call (0 11 33) 1 43 26 14 18 or e-mail [email protected]

BOOK... YOUR FLIGHT to arrive in Paris Saturday July 31 and leave Saturday August 7We suggest catching a flight leaving the US on Friday evening and arriving Paris Saturday morning. This way you have time to rest or explore on your own before we meet Saturday evening for our cocktail party. For the re-turn, book a flight leaving Paris on Saturday August 7. Of course, you may arrive early or extend your stay if desired. Since you book your lodging directly, you may request the number of nights needed and book your flight accord-ingly.

BOOK... YOUR TRANSFERIf you book an apartment through Guest Apartment Ser-vices, we suggest booking airport transfers through them as well. If you arranged lodging through a different ven-dor, we will be glad to book a private transfer – just let us know in advance.

MEET AND MINGLEMicène will be in Paris to welcome you on Saturday July 31 and we will have our usual cocktail party Saturday eve-ning, which also serves as an orientation session but most importantly is an opportunity for the group to meet and mingle.

ENJOY PARIS... ONE BITE AT A TIMEMost of the meals have been arranged on a “Dutch-treat” basis. This does not mean you are left on your own (unless that is what you prefer, of course). We have pre-arranged lunch reservations for those who want to go as a group. This way you get the best of both worlds, either ventur-ing out independently or relaxing and meeting up with the group!

Cancellations must be submitted in writ-ing to Design Arts Seminars, Inc. by mail, fax, or e-mail ([email protected]). Written cancellations received more than 48 days prior to course begin date entitle registrants to a refund of their reservation deposit minus $95 per per-son administrative fee. Travel tipsTransfersTransfers from and to the airport are not included in the package; however a chauffeur can person-ally welcome you in the arrival lounge after you exit baggage claim and drive you to the city center. This service may be booked on your behalf but is payable directly to the driver (76 euros each way). If you have not already booked this service and wish to do so, please email [email protected] with your detailed travel itinerary including: airport, date/time of arrival and departure, airline, flight numbers, and number of guests.

Check-InReservations were made directly between individ-ual attendees and Guest Apartment Services for those who booked a private apartment or made directly with a hotel. For check-in details, check the confirmation you received from Guest Apart-ment Services or contact the hotel you booked.

Weather & Dress CodeThe weather should be pleasant, with temperatures ranging from the low seventies to the mid eighties. Nevertheless you should bring a light sweater and certainly a small umbrella. A good portion of the tour will consist of walking, so wear-ing comfortable shoes is a must. Consider bringing a small bag in which to carry water, umbrella, camera, etc. The dress code in the cities is casual and comfortable during the day, but a little more formal at night. Please bring a formal outfit for the cocktail party on Saturday evening and for the fare-well dinner Friday evening.

CurrencyThe currency in France is the Euro. You can take some cash with you and exchange it at the airport upon your arrival, or you can use your ATM card. Credit cards are accepted everywhere. MasterCard and Visa are more widely accepted than AmEx.

SafetyYou can expect to be safe in France as long as you use com-mon sense and follow the same safety measures that you would in any major city. Do not wear eye-catching jewelry, do carry a purse or bag with a zipper or clasp that you can keep an eye on, beware of pickpockets, and do not leave bags or cameras unattended or in the bus.

CuisineFrench cuisine is rich and different in each region. Being willing to try a variety of dishes will certainly improve your experience. If you are sensitive to dietary changes, please bring the digestive aids you commonly use. In addition, if you have specific dietary needs, please let us know as soon as possible.

Cell PhonesIf you plan on using your US cell phone while in France, remember to call your service provider before leaving the US to check availability of service.

Small Electrical The power supply in France (and in most of Europe) is 220-240V, which means that some American appliances won’t work in France. To find out if your product will work in France, do this simple check: Take a look at the highlighted part in the photo on the right and find the similar information on your appliance (it will either be on the plug or on the appliance itself) You can see that this product will take 100-240V and will work in both the US (which takes 110V) and France. If your product is similarly labeled, it will work in France. The only problem is that the plug won’t fit the outlets-- for this you will need an adapter, which you can find in the boutiques at the airport or which we can help you locate in France. If your appliance doesn’t mention compatibility with 240V, then you will need to convert the power your appliance receives from the wall outlet. You may find the proper converter at the airport when leaving, simply ask for a dual wattage international converter set.

Phone Numbers- Police: 17- Fire: 18- Emergency medical assistance: 15- Emergency number from a mobile phone: 112- Taxi: 01.45.30.30.30- Lost or stolen credits card: 0.892.705.705 (0.34€/minute)- American Express: 01.47.77.72.00

Emergency Contact Information: The phone number you may leave with your family or colleagues should they need to contact you in case of emergency is 850.339.7155. Throughout the tour, you may also use this phone number to reach me at any time if you need any assistance (from within France, dial 00.1.850.339.7155).
