1.Welcome to the Careers Convention 2015

Welcome to the Lady Manners School Careers Convention and Skills Fair! This event is an exciting and inspirational event where all students, parents and carers can explore the world of work and the many different pathways to get there. A number of prominent universities, colleges, companies and other organisations to represent as broad a range of careers as possible. We thank them all for their interest and participation.

How is the convention organised?

There are a range of careers talks for students and parents to attend and find out more about specific careers. These are held at different stages of the evening.

There are a number of delegate stands across school for students and parents to consult -employers, universities, colleges and organisations who can offer voluntary work opportunities.

MAKE USE OF THE INFORMATION IN THIS BOOKLET TO PLAN YOUR JOURNEY! Who is the convention aimed at? Year 8 Students and their parents – you will benefit from the experience of being in a careers focused environment, with the opportunity to explore many different careers paths that may inspire you to think about your dream job, You will be able to identify with the subjects you are currently studying and recognise the connection with jobs and careers in the real world. Year 9 Students and their parents – this event will give you a head start in decision making ahead of choosing your GCSE subjects .Ask employers, colleges and universities about subjects that you should be taking for GCSE. Year 10 & 11 Students and their Parents –Will you stay at school to do A levels after year 11, go to college or apply for an apprenticeship? What qualifications are needed for that dream job? Will you need to go to university? This is a great chance to explore all of these options under one roof. Why not use this opportunity to impress local employers and talk about potential work experience placements? You can find out more by finding out which universities, colleges and apprenticeships which offer courses in subjects or careers that you are interested in and getting more information about them. Some of the companies present may be able to offer work experience placements. Year 12 and 13 students Year 12 students will soon be thinking about university options .What work experience will I need? Are there any volunteering opportunities which may help my application? What are the alternatives to higher education? Perhaps an apprenticeship?, taking a GAP Year, a Year in Industry? Are there any sponsorship on offer in a career area that you are interested in? Do the universities offer any bursaries? Is an apprenticeship a viable option? Some of the training providers have taken 6th forms students in the past. Year 13 students may still be considering GAP year opportunities, further work experience or voluntary work or considering advanced/higher apprenticeships? You may still have questions about
