PARENTS NEWSLETTER TERM 3, WEEK 1 26 July 2019 Maranatha Christian School 180 Hill Road, Belmont, Lower Hutt 5010, New Zealand T 565 0749 F 565 0747 E [email protected] W maranatha.school.nz Tēnā koutou katoa Welcome back to Term 3… I pray that you all managed to stay warm and dry over the recent school holiday period and that most of the winter bugs and viruses are now behind us. We now look forward to a healthy, busy and very exciting term of learning ahead! Images taken at the end of Term 2… Kotare’s end of Term 2 digital project… showing LIFE MCS. At the end of last term, I had the privilege of teaching Kotare Class for a few days. During this time we explored what Love, Integrity, Faith & Excellence (L.I.F.E) looked like at Maranatha Christian School through still images. Students took a series of photos of school life, created digital presentations and also a summary display as seen outside of the school library… how encouraging it is that our Christ given values are so much more than simply words on a page! During the term break, the lower school area (including Kiwi Class) had new wall coverings (Autex) installed, old furniture was cleared from the basement making way for new opportunities in this space, and maintenance was undertaken around the school including the cleaning if the internal courtyard and clearing of gutters… there’s never a dull moment at school! This term’s theme is God is Unity , with particular focus on the The Holy Trinity. Through our Social Sciences and The Arts programmes we will be exploring and celebrating unity within God’s Kingdom around the world. This learning will directly support and link into our Major Production to be held at the Hope Centre Church on Tuesday 24 September (Week 10)… please save the date! Looking ahead… Our swimming programme commences on 12 August (Week 4) and concludes on 22 August (Week 5). Further information is available within this newsletter. Kia pai tō rā whakatā (Have a fantastic weekend). In His love Steve Farrand Principal

The PTA Needs You! The PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is made up of parents who come together to raise funds for our wonderful school. The funds raised go towards things like equipment for the classrooms and technology. This year we are aiming to raise funds for a sunshade to shelter the junior playground. The latest fundraising events raised over $1,000! These were the Entertainment Books and the movie “Tomorrow” at the Lighthouse Cinema. We would LOVE for you to join us, or you are welcome to just come and see what we’re all about. Our next meeting is coming up on Wednesday, 31 July at 7.00 pm. We will be gathering in the staff room at Maranatha. We hope to see you there! If you have any questions about the PTA please email these to [email protected].

Hutt Winter Festival 15-17 August 2019 Hutt Winter Festival is back for another year to warm up winter for all the whanau! With fantastic creator workshops running alongside an array of fun dance workshops (where you can fine tune those killer dancefloor moves before the 80s party in the evening) Hutt Winter Festival will be the place to be this winter. Highlights of this year's festival include six headliner projects featuring local artists and performers: Hutt’s Got Talent in association with GoodTime Music Academy Eco Fashion Runway Dance with a Stranger How to Write an Album Tape Art’s Winter Sculpture Resene Live Action Mural Painting Head to http://huttwinterfestival.co.nz/events/ where you can find all the details about the warm up workshops happening around the Hutt at local hubs and community spaces in the lead up to the festival. They are going to be so much fun and many of them are being run by the artists working on special art installations for the final night of the festival, so your involvement in these great workshops can contribute to the finished art pieces, how cool is that aye?! The three day extravaganza will culminate in a Hutt Winter Festival Party on Saturday 17 August, featuring live music, an interactive labyrinth led by local public artists Tape Art, a rockin' 80s dance party with DJ Danger on the decks, an Art Market curated by The Learning Connection, workshops, face-painting and so much more. Be sure to put 17 August in your diaries, it will be a fun day (and night!) not to be missed. You can also follow the Hutt Winter Festival on facebook for timely updates and need to know info: https://www.facebook.com/HuttWinterFest/
