    Parent/ Coach Communication Plan

I believe that it is the role of parents to be supportive of your child and the rest of theteam. Whatever your feelings, please refrain from making negative comments about thecoaches or other players in front of your son. Doing so can only hurt the team. Your sonmay come home complaining about something in practice or with the team. Listen to himand be supportive but encourage him to come and talk with the coach first. Taking sideswith your son will only make things worse.

Both parenting and coaching are extremely difficult vocations. By establishing anunderstanding of each position, we are better able to accept the actions of the other andprovide greater benefit to children.

Communication You Should Expect From Your Childs Coach

    Philosophy of the coach

Expectations the coach has for your child

Locations and times of all practices and contests

Team requirements, i.e practices, special equipment, out-of season conditioning, etc

    Discipline procedures involving your son

    Communication Coaches Expect from Parents

Concerns expressed by player first, parent second

Notification of any schedule conflict well in advance

Appropriate Concerns to Discuss With Coaches

    1. The treatment of your child, mentally, and physically2. Ways to help your child improve3. Concerns about your childs behavior

*It may be very difficult to accept your son not playing as much as you may hope. We(coaches) make judgment decisions based on what we believe is best for the TEAM.Many factors go into this decision making process such as work ethic, discipline, practiceperformance, - just to name a few. There are some matters that should be discussed with

the coach. Other things, such as those below, must be left to the discretion of the coaches.

Issues Not Appropriate to Discuss With Coaches

    Playing Time

    Playing Strategy

    Other Student-Athletes
