PARENTING SUPPORTJason Cheers | Dean of Boys’ Education
A sense of connectedness to family and school is a significant protective factor for young people, especially boys. We can enhance boys’ sense of belonging and self-worth (connectedness) when we:
• build caring relationships - offering support, compassion and trust,• set high and achievable expectations - offering respect, guidance, affirmation and
acknowledgement, building on the strengths of each boy,• provide opportunities for participation and contribution - responsibilities, decision
making opportunities, building ownership, interaction and enjoyment.
There are a number of systems in place at the School to help support parents in raising boys. The School’s ‘E-Care’ system provides a confidential link directly to the School’s Senior Counsellor. The TESS Department, which consists of Registered Psychologists/Counsellors, specialist teachers in learning difficulties, Gifted and Talented teachers, ESL teachers, Careers Counsellor, and other special project personnel, provides a wide range of interventions for different needs.
The School conducts a number of information evenings and events throughout the year, addressing key issues in boys’ education and well-being. Our School website also has a range of resources which provide parents and boys with support in different areas. They can be found in the Pastoral Care section under Support Resources. Some of these include:• Cyber Safety resources• AHISA monthly parenting tips newsletter• Adolescent Psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg’s resource site• NSW Parents Council• Michael Grose’s Parenting Ideas• Parent Line• The Successful Parent• Anglicare• Help When You Need It (Michael Carr Gregg’s On-Line Programme)
The quality of the School as a social institution has vital importance in the provision of a quality education for our boys. The relationship that the School has with parents plays a significant role in this regard.

Traditionally, an effective system of pastoral care has been regarded as the sine qua nonof a good Independent School education. The School is concerned with the development ofthewhole human being and articulates this through the symbol of the Trinity Triangle, inwhich the three dimensions of the triangle represent central components of humandevelopment: physical, intellectual and spiritual. In reality these three aspects areintricately interconnected. Similarly, the development of ethical and effective inter-personaland intra-personal skills is essential for our progress in each dimension. While thisdevelopment is particularly relevant to religious and moral values, it is also necessary forour ability to cope with, and become resilient to, life issues.Trinity caters for all these needs through:
