Family and student expectations – why are we doing this?
Higher Level (HL) – To complete an HL assessment, students must take a 2-year sequence of courses with content from the IB syllabus
Standard Level (SL) – To complete an SL assessment, students may 1) complete a 2-year sequence of courses with content from the IB syllabus or 2) complete a 1-year course specifically designed to meet SL syllabus requirements.
Students may complete an SL assessment in a class preparing them for HL

To develop independent research and writing skills expected by universities and to investigate a topic of special interest within the 27 IB subject areas
-4,000 words-DUE January, 2nd Diploma year and send directly to IB-Support: Adult mentor from Interlake, Megan Bennett in library, Bellevue district resources, UW libraries, the IB office, ToK teachers…-Calendared check-ins and due dates-Student: 40 hours, three reflections along the way-Mentor: 3-4 hours, viva voce and final reflection with predicated score

Can be used for the Bellevue SD 40 hour req. BUT hours earned as an underclassman do NOT count

Renewable Powering Systems – developing a handheld electrical generator for renewable energy
Social Harmony – Working to establish a sister school in Liberia and raising funds for school transportation
Green Team – pitching the use of reducing waste through composting to Bellevue School District
Exams this year?Only SL, max of two
Must: Design Tech SL, Environment Systems and Societies SL, Psychology SL, French lang/lit SL,
Chem SL2
Should: Chinese and Spanish lang/lit SL, Biology SL (if only taking for one year), Math SL2
Can: Business and Management SL, Film SL, Art SL –these can also be taken year 2 as an HL
-Stay on top of all course work and tests
-Complete a research project for every IB exam subject
-Register for SL exams now – if needed
-Complete ToK, Extended Essay and CAS-no failing
conditions
-Earn a min of 24 exam points (4 or higher on each IB
exam)
-HL in strongest subjects
