Parent-Teacher Communication

• Please feel free to call, write a note, email, or schedule a conference during our conference time, 9:50 – 10:40.

• We each have our own personal website for our classrooms.

• A team newsletter will come home with your child once a month. Please read through it with your child. It contains important information about our academics and school functions.

Comunicacion entre los padres y maestra

• Siéntase libre de llamar, escribir una nota, o venga de visita durante el tiempo de conferencias, 9:50-10:40.

• Tenemos nuestra propia página web para nuestros salones de clase donde pondremos anuncios, fechas, fotos y mucho mas.

• Un boletín del equipo ira a casa con su hijo una vez al mes. Por favor, lea el boletín con su hijo. Contiene información importante acerca de nuestra clase y la escuela.

Weather• Dress for the weather. We will go

out to recess everyday unless there are harsh weather conditions.

• You may wish to send a sweater with your child; the weather can change quickly.

• Some of our classrooms are chilly. Please feel free to send a sweatshirt or sweater to keep in the room.

Clima• Vestir de acuerdo al clima. Vamos a salir al

recreo todos los días a menos que existan condiciones climáticas severas. Es posible que desee enviar un suéter con su hijo, ya que el clima puede cambiar rápidamente. Algunas de nuestras clases son frescas, por favor, no dude en enviarnos una camiseta o un suéter para mantenerse en la habitación.

Attendance• When your child has been absent,

please send a note with him/her the following day to provide an explanation to the office.

• If your child can not participate in PE please send a note. This will also restrict them from recess.

• If you need to pick your child up early , make sure you speak with someone in the office and sign them out in the office first.

Asistencia• Cuando su hijo ha estado ausente, por

favor envíe una nota con ellos al día siguiente para dar una explicación a la oficina. Si su niño no puede participar en el PE por favor envíe una nota. Esto también les impiden el recreo. Going Home• If your child is not going home in the usual

way please send a note or call the front office at 704-1900. Students will not be released or sent home in a different manner without a note from you or the office. Please remember this is for your child’s safety. Email and voicemail may not be checked until after dismissal.

Transporte a Casa

• Si su hijo no se va a casa de la manera habitual por favor envíe una nota. Los estudiantes no serán puestos en libertad sin una nota. Por favor, recuerde que esto es para la seguridad de su hijo. Usted puede contactar a la oficina, así como organizar esto.

Conferences• During late September and the beginning

of October, we will be holding conferences to discuss achievement this far and set goals for the school year.

• Conference times will be scheduled between you and your child’s teacher.

• Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher at anytime during the year if you have any concerns.

Conferencias• A finales de Septiembre y principio de

Octubre, tendremos las conferencias para hablar del progreso de los estudiantes y hablar de metas que tendrán los estudiantes.

• Las citas de las conferencias serán planeadas entre la maestra y los padres. Por favor, siéntase libre de comunicarse con la maestra de su hijo en cualquier momento durante el año si usted tiene una preocupación.

Daily Folder• Your child will bring home a folder

daily that will contain graded work, behavior information, school resources and homework.

• Please go through and discuss items in this folder with your child.

• Please initial and return this folder everyday.

• Your child is responsible for taking things out that need to be returned. Please clean out the folder nightly.

Carpeta Diaria • Su hijo llevará a casa una carpeta que

contendrá todos los días de trabajo calificado, la información de comportamiento y las tareas. Por favor, revise esta carpeta y discutalo con su hijo. Ponga sus iniciales en esta carpeta y regresela todos los días. Su hijo es responsable de tomar las cosas que tienen que ser devueltas. Limpie la carpeta todas las noches.

Behavior• A behavior chart will go home

daily, so that together we can track your child’s behavior.

• The behavior expectations correlate with our school’s HAWKS Rules.

• Please be sure to take time each evening to discuss your child’s behavior choices from that day at school.

Comportamiento• Discutiremos nuestras reglas de la clase y

la importancia de tener reglas tan pronto como la escuela empieza. Enviaremos a casa una copia de nuestras reglas de la clase para que usted la revise con su hijo. Cada día, en la carpeta de su hijo le notificará de su conducta. Hable de su dia con su hijo y firme sus iniciales en el espacio indicado y devuelva la carpeta al día siguiente.

Students are expected to follow these school wide rules. Your child’s folder will be marked with a color that corresponds to his/her behavior for that day. Please make sure you check and discuss each day’s behavior with your child and initial in the space provided.

Guided Reading/Lectura Guiada• A book contract is to be

signed by student and parent

• Lost/ not returned books will cost $5

• These books are selected based on your child’s reading ability. They should not be too easy or too hard for your child to read independently.

• Please be sure to listen to your child read nightly.

• Libro perdido / no devuelto los libros costarán $5.00. Estos libros son seleccionados en base a la capacidad de lectura de su hijo. No deben ser demasiado fáciles o demasiado difíciles para su niño debe leer en forma independiente. Por favor, asegúrese de escuchar leer a su niño todas las noches.

Practicing Sight Words/Palabras de uso frecuente• A 1st grade sight

word list will be coming home with your child and is also available on the 1st grade website.

• Be sure to practice these words nightly.

• 1st graders need to be able to read and write these words by memory by the end of 1st grade.

• La lista de palabras de uso frecuente esta en la carpeta anaranjada.

• Favor de practicar estas palabras al diario.

Homework/Tarea• Homework will be

sent home each Monday.

• Homework is due each Friday upon arrival.

• Homework is for practice and reinforcement. We will start with 10 minutes of nightly reading and then add on more skills throughout the year for further practice.

Words Their Way The best part of Words Their Way spelling is that students can be

provided with instruction that fits their particular stage of spelling development and moved along sequentially in their instruction. It allows students to build on what they already know, to learn what they need to know, and to move forward.

In a nutshell, you will see…• Students who are grouped into appropriate level spelling “sorts.”• Students introduced to a new group of words with a specific feature as

its focus each week.• Students working on hands-on activities to sort words with common

characteristics into defined groups.• Students thinking hard about whether these features mean they have

to HEAR what the words have in common or SEE what they have in common (or both).

Homework will consist of a menu of word study activities to do with your child at home. We highly encourage you to do these activities with your child to reinforce the skills he/she is learning in class.

Fonetica La mejor parte del programa de fonética “Words their Way” es que

los estudiantes recibirán instrucción al nivel que ellos necesitan. Permite

a los estudiantes a construir sobre lo que ya saben, para aprender lo

que necesitan saber, y para seguir adelante.En pocas palabras, usted verá ...• Los estudiantes que se agrupan en el nivel apropiado de ortografía• Los estudiantes introducidos a un nuevo grupo de palabras con

una característica específica como su foco cada semana.• Los estudiantes que trabajan en actividades prácticas para

ordenar las palabras con características comunes en grupos definidos.

• Los estudiantes que piensan seriamente si estas características significa que tengan que escuchar lo que las palabras tienen en común o ver lo que tienen en común (o ambos).

• La tarea consistirá de un menu de actividades de fonetica para hacer con su hijo en casa. Le animamos a hacer estas actividades con su hijo para reforzar las habilidades que él / ella está aprendiendo en clase

Report Cards/ Calificaciones:• Report cards will come home

at the end of each 9 week grading period.

• 1st grade does not assign grades, but the report card will reflect where your child is at in their learning on each specific skill.

• Please review the report card and sign and return ONLY the envelope. The report card itself is for you to keep.

• On the front of the envelope is an explanation of the number rating system used.

• Exámenes individuales de lectura serán conducidos al principio y al final del año, así como sea necesario durante el año escolar.

• Las calificaciones serán enviadas al final de cada 9 semanas. Usted puede requerir una conferencia con la maestra si es necesario.

• Favor de revisar la calificacion y regresar solo el sobre.

• Enfrente del sobre usted prodra leer un explicacion de cómo se califica su estudiante.

Snacks/Aperitivos • You may send your child

with one healthy snack. Examples-goldfish, pretzels, carrot sticks, apple, grapes, celery, granola bar, Gogurt. Please do not send snacks that need utensils or preparing. Also avoid fruit cups as they can be messy.

• There is a designated snack time daily.

• Snacks can not be provided by the teacher.

• Please send a water bottle with a sport top to school with your child. It will be sent home on Fridays for cleaning.

• Los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de comer un pequeño aperitivo todos los días.

• El aperitivo debe ser no perecedero, el horario sera corto por favor mandar solo una cosa. Aperitivos sugeridas son: Goldfish, galletas saladas, pretzels, cereal, palomitas de maiz, galletas, etc.

• Por favor abstengance de enviar vasos de fruta o aperitivos que necesiten cubiertos.

• Recomendamos que su hijo traiga una botella de agua con una tapa de antiderramiento CADA DIA. No hay fuentes de agua en el salón de clases. El agua será el único refresco permitido en clase.

Birthdays/ Cumpleaños• On your child’s birthday,

you may provide store bought cupcakes or cookies. They cannot be prepared at home due to possible food allergies.

• These will be enjoyed in the classroom in the afternoon sometime after lunch.

• To respect instructional time, the celebration time will be kept to a minimum.

• Please provide only one treat per child.

• Party invitations will not be passed out at school, unless one is provided for every student.

• Usted es bienvenido a traer pastelitos/galletas comprados en la tienda sin embargo no podrán ser disfrutados hasta las 2:15 pm.

• Los aperitivos deben ser facil de distribuir.

• Favor de traer solo uno por estudiante.

• Invitaciones para fiestas fuera del salon deben ser para todos los estudiantes de la clase, en orden de ser entregadas por la maestra.
