Message from AdministrationDear KIPP Sol Parents & Families, We hope that you had a wonderful and restful break with your families! A week off from thenormal routine was a good amount of time to reset and come back to school re-energized forthe last 11 school days of the calendar year. After teaching on Monday - which is such awonderful experience each time because your children are brimming with enthusiasm andcuriosity - I took time on Tuesday to walk through each of our classrooms to see all of ourteachers and all of our students in action. While I will always have a critical eye for what wecan continue to improve, I must admit that my general take-away was that I am very proud ofour school. I am very proud to say that 100% of our teachers and staff come to work everysingle day doing their absolute best to give your children the excellent education they deserve.In every class, I saw students engaged in worthy learning tasks, being pulled into small groupsfor follow up if they did not fully master the lesson, working collaboratively in peer teams totackle challenging work, and generally doing all that was asked of them in class. Sometimes Ifeel like it’s not easy to get my own 2 kids on the same page, much less 509 middle schoolers,but that is exactly what is happening at Sol. Every day, our teachers work with incredible skilland love to ensure all 509 of our amazing children are moving as a team and in the rightdirection. If you are still feeling gratitude spirit from the last week, I encourage you to sendsome love to your children’s teachers to let them know their efforts are noticed andappreciated! AttendanceOur average attendance continues to remain above our goal of 97% each day. This is anindicator of a healthy school. It means students are happy to come to school, they arelearning, and as a school, we are thriving!

Holiday BreakfastFamilies, on the last day before break we will be hosting a holiday breakfast in ourhomerooms. So get ready to sign up with your homerooms once the date gets closer via dojo!

Student Council

[] We will be hosting our 2nd winter dance next, Thursday, December 6th in the MPR, from4:30-6:30. Tickets will be on sale during lunch for the price of $5 starting Monday, November26 through December 5th. We will be selling snack, light up party accessories for the �rst 120guest, and we hope to have a photo booth as well. It will be a semi-formal event. So let's getdressed up and make some fun memories. Our dances always sell out, so make you sure toget your ticket in the �rst few days to ensure your spot. We are looking for parent donation ofchips, red vines, water, juices, and others to have for the advocates who plan on attending thedance. If you can donate, please contact Ms. Allen at aallen@kippla.org. [] Our commissioners of Community and Cultural affair have been working on a gift-givingopportunity for Sol to give back to our local community this holiday season. We will besponsoring 16 Iluminar/ and or Day Care students in your immediate community, whosefamilies might not be able to provide them with a gift, due to �nancial hardship. The �rst weekof December each homeroom will be assigned a student. We want your child’s homeroomworking as a team to make a younger KIPPster or toddlers holiday wishes come true. [ ] Jolly Gram will be on sale at lunch from Monday, December 3rd - Thursday, December 13th. [ ] The week before break December 10th - 14th we will be having a winter spirit week. Thedays are as followed.Monday- Silent Night - (PJ day)Tuesday - Summer in December ( Hawaiian day)Wednesday - Family Photo Day - ( Wear your favorite Flannel shirt )Thursday - Baby it’s outside - (Bundle up with your favorite, scarf, hat, beanie, and coat)Friday- Deck the halls (Ugly Christmas Sweater)Please see �yer attached. [] On Friday, December 14 we will be hosting a holiday-themed �eld day. There will be games,chanting, contests, and most de�nitely a good time. So encourage your advocate to keepworking hard in these next few weeks of school, so we have a good time as a team and family. [] To honor traditions here at Sol, Friday, December 14 being National Ugly Christmas Sweaterday. We will be hosting our 2nd annual, Ugly Christmas Sweater contest. There will be trophiesand prizes for the following categories:1. Ugliest (Best overall) 2. Funniest 3. Best homemade 4. Most Creative, and 5. CutestSo help your student get in the holiday spirit and as a family put your thinking caps on, tocreate orbuy an ugly Christmas sweater your child can take center stage for our contest.

Enrichment Winter ShowCaseSave the date!!! On Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 5:00PM - 6:00PM, enrichment teachers(Physical Education, Theater, Music, and Visual Arts) will be hosting a celebration in the MPR.This event will showcase Advocate work from their enrichment classes from this Fallsemester. It will feature live music, an art show, student’s displaying their physical strengthand endurance, as well as demonstration of how powerful an Advocate's voice can truly be.The enrichment team will be giving out character awards to a selective group of students whoexempli�ed our school’s �ve core values. So keep your eye peeled for more detail for thisexciting event. Hope to see you there!

Mrs. Gordon is the 8th grade science teacher and has been teaching at Sol for 3 years! Mrs.Gordon is from Cornwall in Hudson, New York, with her parents and younger sister. She got

her undergraduate degree from State University of New York at Binghamton in BiologicalSciences and her Master’s degree from Fordham University. In her free time she likes to hike,do cross�t and hangout with her dog Griff. One thing she wants her students to know is, “I am

so excited to see all they achieve and I’m so lucky to get to see them grow every day”

¡Esperamos que haya tenido un descanso maravilloso y tranquilo con sus familias! Unasemana de descanso de la rutina normal fue una buena cantidad de tiempo para reiniciar yregresar a la escuela con más energía durante los últimos 11 días escolares del añocalendario. Después de enseñar el lunes, que es una experiencia maravillosa cada vez porquesus estudiantes están llenos de entusiasmo y curiosidad, tomé tiempo el martes paracaminar a través de cada una de nuestras aulas para ver a todos nuestros maestros y todosnuestros estudiantes en acción. Si bien siempre tendré un ojo crítico para lo que podemosseguir mejorando, debo admitir que mi conclusión general fue que estoy muy orgulloso denuestra escuela. Estoy muy orgulloso de decir que el 100% de nuestros maestros y personalvienen a trabajar todos los días haciendo todo lo posible para brindarles a sus estudiantes laexcelente educación que merecen. En cada clase, vi a estudiantes que participaban en tareasde aprendizaje valiosas, que se agrupaban en pequeños grupos para realizar un seguimiento sino dominaban la lección por completo, trabajaban en equipo de compañeros para abordar eltrabajo desa�ante y generalmente hacían todo lo que se les pedía en clase. A veces sientoque no es fácil tener a mis 2 hijos en la misma página, y mucho menos a 509 estudiantes desecundaria, pero eso es exactamente lo que está sucediendo en Sol. Todos los días, nuestrosmaestros trabajan con increíble habilidad y amor para garantizar que los 509 de nuestrosincreíbles estudiantes se muevan en equipo y en la dirección correcta. Si aún sientes elentusiasmo de gratitud de la última semana, ¡te animo a enviar un poco de amor a losmaestros de sus estudiantes para que sepan que sus esfuerzos son notados y apreciados! AsistenciaNuestra asistencia promedio continúa siendo superior a nuestra meta del 97% cada día. Estees un indicador de una escuela saludable. Signi�ca que los estudiantes están felices de venira la escuela, están aprendiendo y, como escuela, ¡estamos prosperando!

Desayuno FestivoFamilias, el último día antes del receso, organizaremos un desayuno festivo en nuestrossalones. ¡Así que prepárate para registrarte con tus salones una vez que se acerque la fecha através del dojo!

Consejo Estudiantil

[] Tendremos nuestro segundo baile de invierno el próximo jueves 6 de diciembre en el MPR,de 4:30-6:30. Las entradas estarán a la venta durante el almuerzo por el precio de $5 a partirdel lunes 26 de noviembre al 5 de diciembre. Estaremos vendiendo bocadillos, accesorios deiluminación para los primeros 120 estudiantes, y esperamos tener también un fotomatón.Será un evento semi formal. Así que vamos a vestirnos y hacer algunos recuerdos divertidos.Nuestros bailes siempre se agotan, así que asegúrese de obtener su boleto en los primerosdías para asegurar su lugar. Estamos buscando la donación de chips, enredaderas rojas, agua,jugos y otros para los defensores que planean asistir al baile. Así que anime a su defensora que continúe trabajando arduamente en las próximas semanas de clases, para quepodamos pasar un buen momento como equipo y como familia. [] Para honrar las tradiciones aquí en Sol, el viernes 14 de diciembre será el día nacional defeo concurso de suéteres. Vamos a organizar nuestro segundo concurso anual, feo concursode suéter. Allí con trofeos y premios para las siguientes categorías:1. El más feo (el mejor en general) 2. El más divertido 3. El mejor hecho en casa 4. El máscreativo y el 5. El más lindoAsí que ayude a su estudiante a ponerse en el espíritu navideño y, como familia, coloque susgorras de pensamiento para crear o coloque un feo suéter navideño en el que su estudiantepuede ocupar el centro de nuestro concurso.

Enriquecimiento de Muestra de Invierno¡¡¡Reserva la fecha!!! El jueves, 13 de diciembre del 2018, de 5:00 PM a 6:00 PM, los maestrosde enriquecimiento (Educación Física, Teatro, Música y Artes Visuales) organizaron unacelebración en el MPR. Este evento mostrará el trabajo de los defensores de sus clases deenriquecimiento de este semestre de otoño. Habrá música en vivo, una muestra de arte, losestudiantes mostrando su fuerza física y resistencia, así como una demostración de lopoderosa que puede ser la voz de un defensor. El equipo de enriquecimiento otorgará premiosde carácter a un grupo selectivo de estudiantes que ejempli�can los cinco valoresfundamentales de nuestra escuela. Así que manténsus ojos bien abiertos para obtener más detalles sobre este emocionante evento.¡Esperamos verlos allí!
