iPad Expectations at School
All students are expected to have their iPad fully charged and ready for use each school day.
The iPad must stay in the Otterbox case given to students by SBMS.
The case may not be changed in any way (no stickers, etc).
Power brick and cord should stay at home.
Would you like to learn how to use the iPad? Several parents requested training on using the
iPad. We love involved parents, so we have
scheduled parent trainings six times this year.

February 26 March 7
What will we cover? We’ll show you basic
functions, how to see their calendar and email, and how to use some of the apps.
You are welcome to attend
one or all of trainings. Bring your students’ iPad.
Your student is welcome as well.
What is the purpose of students using iPads? We want to meet the
students’ needs for rigor and engagement.
Teachers have received staff development throughout the summer and school year on how to change instruction using the iPad.

Internet Access at School Internet access at school will continue to
be filtered and monitored by BISD.
The Parent is in Charge at Home
Make a plan for how you will manage the technology at home. You might try:Creating a scheduled time for working on the
device Designating a place in your home for working
online Designating a place to charge the device over
night so the student remembers it in the morning.
When you child works on the iPad at home:
Ask to see what your child is working on. Please take up the iPad at home until it is
convenient for you to monitor your child. Use time with your child to learn how the iPad
works. Have discussions with them about it.
Responsible Internet Use We realize many of your students have access
to the Internet from their phones or at home, and you are already working with them to be safe online.
We want to continue to partner with you to teach your child to use the Internet responsibly and efficiently.
Online Safety Kit Internet Safety Lessons-
2 weeks of lessons concerning safety online and appropriate use of technology at the beginning of the year
Additional days of lessons about online safety throughout the school year
We’ll Take Care of the Hard Stuff
Unlike last year, the students won’t have to worry about having time to download apps.
Students will not have to try to update the apps we deploy.
Email access has been adjusted so that students may email teachers and staff but not each other through school email.
What can students do? Students may download music, books
and iTunesU content.
Students will NOT be able to download apps onto the iPad and should never connect to a computer with the sync chord.
