2019 ELEMENTARY SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION
The Humble Independent School District offers a summer school program for elementary students in 5th grade who
failed the second administration of the STAAR test in reading or math.
This summer program will be held at two campuses: Jack Fields Elementary and Pine Forest Elementary. Campuses and special programs to be served at each location are listed in the chart below. Reading and math for
5th
grade students will be offered at both campuses. This accelerated reading and math program is designed to prepare students for the transition from elementary to middle school.
Bilingual and English as a Second Language (ESL) summer school programs are offered to English language
learners who will be eligible for admission to Kindergarten or 1st grade at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school
year. This program will be held at schools as listed in the chart below.
Special Education programs, Extended School Year (ESY) will be held at the summer school locations as per the
chart below.

CRITERIA USED TO DETERMINE ELEGIBILITY FOR 5TH GRADE
ACCERATED READING / MATH / PREPARATION FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL
For 5th Grade, we will use the STAAR passing rates set for the 2018-2019 school year.
REGISTRATION
Summer school registration will be completed on-line at the student’s home campus. Information is
available through the counselor’s office or student’s teacher.
BREAKFAST AND LUNCH PROGRAM
Humble ISD will serve a nutritious breakfast and lunch daily in the cafeteria. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 –
8:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Lunch is available t o students attending the
PM session. Prices for breakfast and lunch will be the same as for the regular school year. (Breakfast - $1.40 and
Lunch - $2.25) Milk is served with all cafeteria meals. Additional milk is available at extra cost. Students who
qualify for free or reduced breakfast/lunch during the school year will also qualify during summer school. A menu
for breakfast and lunch will be made available to parents.
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
(Grades refer to the current grade in which the student is enrolled.)
1. Bilingual/ESL at Jack Fields Elementary and Pine Forest Elementary
Grades PreK – K 7 :45 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
This special language summer school program is offered at no cost to ELLs who are currently in Pre-K or in Kindergarten, are served in an ESL or Bilingual program and who will be enrolled in a Humble ISD school in
Kindergarten or 1st
grade the following school year. The bilingual and ESL PreK/K programs will be offered at JFE and PFE.
These students are identified according to state guidelines. The program focuses on the language development
needs of these limited English proficient students.
2. Accelerated Reading/Math Instruction/Preparation for Middle School (5th Grade) at Jack Fields Elementary
and Pine Forest Elementary
(Bilingual at JFE and PFE)
8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. OR 12:00 – 3:30 p.m.
This course will be offered to students currently in 5th grade who failed the STAAR Reading/Math test. This program
is free to parents.

SUMMER SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION—ELEMENTARY MORNING
BUS TRANSPORTATION
Parents who want their students to receive district transportation services must complete the Transportation
Agreement as part of on-line registration for Humble ISD Elementary Summer School.
Only students with online registration and completed transportation information will be allowed to board the bus to
Summer School.
Transportation will be provided for student with disabilities in the Extended School Year program when required by
an ARD committee.
Parents or guardians of summer school students who utilize district transportation must commit to picking up
students at the bus stops in a timely manner.
Supervision is never provided at the bus stops. If someone does NOT meet the bus for PreK and Kindergarten
students, the student(s) will be returned to the school. Summer School campuses close at 4 pm. Supervision is
NOT provided after this time.
The following bus routes are designated for the elementary summer school 2019 session. The final schedule will be
determined by the Transportation Department (281) 641-8720 after all summer school registrations have been
received.

behind schedule while the drivers learn student names and check roll for bus riders.
3. Parents/Guardians of summer school students who utilize district transportation must
