Parent EveningTonight’s gathering will be a snapshot of the key information for parents and caregivers about the day to day running of your son’s homeroom and the year level.

Staff Roles
Staff at Sacred Heart College Middle School:
● Typically, your son will have two or more teachers that will know him really well.
○ One teacher for Maths and Science○ One teacher for English and HASS
Other teachers will include language, technology, arts, PE
● Homeroom teacher always first point of call for any issues○ Email is best form of contact.
Diary
Your son’s diary is an official school document and an important communication tool between them, their teachers, and home.
It is an expectation that:
● It is filled in correctly – all homework, assignment/test due dates are entered● It is free of graffiti, stickers and ‘artwork’ and is kept in a reasonable condition
HomeworkHomework is a valued part of the curriculum and is tailored to suit boys at different stages of their academic development:
● Reinforces and consolidates basic skills and newly introduced work● Focus on completion and achievement● Basic literacy and numeracy skills are a key element● Supports time organisation and independent problem solving skills● It is a student’s responsibility to record homework in their diary and check Google Classroom for
notes, tasks and due dates.● We encourage parents/carers to establish study habits and routines at home
Homework Club
● Offered one afternoon 3:15-4:15pm to allow students to work on their homework and ask for assistance if required.

ChromeBookThe ChromeBook is considered a part of the Student’s Booklist, it is a tool for learning, the same as a Maths Book or Pencil Case:
● Parents own the device, therefore can be used by students as a personal computer outside of school hours in discussion with their parents
● Responsibility of student to have Chromebook chargedand with them at school at all times
● Students are only to access their school account whilst at school● Consequences for ICT misuse
○ Students and Parents sign a ICT Responsible Use Agreement● Google Apps for Education● Google Classroom as Learning Management System.
Curriculum Extension Activities (CEAs)Sacred Heart College offer a variety of Curriculum Extension Activities (CEAs):
● Adam Rice is CEA Sport Coordinator● Meagan Kozlowski is CEA Music Coordinator● Individual CEAs are coordinated by different staff members
○ Information is often disseminated electronically (via Google Drive or Intranet)○ Contact should be made with individual CEA coordinators
● CEA Seasons: ○ Summer Season - Term 1 and Term 4○ Winter Season - Term 2 and Term 3
It is an expectation that your son arrive on time for their nominated CEA (including training) and that they contact the relevant coordinator in advance if they are unavailable.
Year Eight Theme - Environment
Year 8 Camp
Year 8 Camp will take place at Hindmarsh Island in Week 2 of Term 1, 2016:
● Timing:○ Four classes will go Monday to Wednesday / Three classes will go Wednesday to Friday
● Purpose is to develop aquatic and outdoor education skills as a prelude to those required for the Year 9 camp (using tents, cooking on a trangia, and overnight expedition) and to connect with the year level theme relating to our environment
Parent/Teacher Interviews
Interviews will take place in Week Four of Term One. Interviews will take place with your son’s homeroom teacher with a two fold purpose.
1. You will have the opportunity to share information you consider relevant to your son’s well being
2. You will have the opportunity to share information you consider relevant to your son’s learning
Information will be shared with the relevant teachers for each subject area
