A note from High School Principal, Katherine DeVinna

Hello, Parents of Seniors, I want to be completely clear about the requirements to participate (WALK) in graduation. Your child MUST meet all graduation requirements. The ONLY, seriously, the only flexibility OMI will allow is the following: If a cadet is within 5 credits of meeting graduation requirements you will be allowed to walk. Please note also, that if you lose your senior privileges due to truancy or to citizenship issues, that walking in graduation is a privilege that can be LOST. Please take this seriously and check your child's grade and attendance often. OMI believes in your children and we want them to succeed. Working together, we can support cadet success.

Opportunities for Juniors!!

Applications are now open for Juniors to attend summer seminars at the US Service Academies. These one-week programs are a great way to assess if Academy life is the right path for college and careers. COSMOS SUMMER PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS COMPLETING

GRADES 8-12

COSMOS is a 4-week summer academic and residential program for high school scholars with a demonstrated interest in the STEM fields. The program is open to all students that will have

completed grades 8-12 by the start of the program. They receive the unparalleled opportunity to work alongside top researchers and faculty members of the University of California in hands-on,

lab-intensive curricula exploring their interests in the STEM Fields, while also enjoying a preview of the college experience.

Students can apply to any one of the four University of California’s COSMOS campuses —Davis, Irvine, San Diego and Santa Cruz. While each campus employs the best practices in STEM

education, the curriculum of each program builds on the unique teaching and research expertise of its faculty and host campus. Students can explore their interests in a variety of fields not traditionally taught in high school including robotics, marine biology, biomedical science,

bioengineering, nuclear technologies, and more. A complete list of clusters available at each site can be found on the COSMOS websites of each respective campus listed below.

A Message from The Commandant

School security is seeing an increase in thefts and robberies of high-

value electronic devices, such as mobile phones and laptops, both on

and off-campus.

The attached suggestions from the Federal Communications Commission can help

protect your mobile devices from theft.

1. If you do not need a cell phone, leave it at home. If you need to call home, talk to

the school staff to use a school phone.

2. Do not share a cell phone or borrow a cell phone.

3. Do not carry laptops or cellphones in your hands while walking to and from

school. Keep the devices out of sight inside backpacks.

4. Install an application that will help locate the device if it is lost.

5. Report any lost or stolen device to school security immediately.

6. Stay aware of your surroundings. Do not use headphones while walking.
