COMMUNICATION

COMMUNICATIONAppropriate Procedure for discussing concerns:

• The first step for discussing concerns is for the student-athlete to discuss the concern with the coach. This fosters positive communications and trust between coach and player and is a growth opportunity for both.

• The next step, if necessary, is to call and set up an appointment with the coach (Contact the Athletic Director if unable to reach the coach). The student-athlete should also present to ensure that the lines of communication are clear.

• Do not confront a coach before or after a contest or practice. These are emotional times for all parties involved and do not promote resolution. Also, do not engage in continuous emails/text conversations where tone can be misconstrued and things are said that wouldn’t be said in person. Face-to-face meetings or phone conversations are always better and more productive.

We should not and will not discuss playing time, coaching strategy, and other student-athletes

• If a resolution has still not been reached, contact the athletic director to set up a meeting to determine next steps

Communication - Tough But True1) I am a sports parent as well...I understand the “feelings” felt as a parent

of a student-athlete. However, the best athletic cultures understand that everyone has their role and stays in their lane….Coaches coach/Parents parent.

2) "I wish there was a way to know you were in the good old days before you actually left them." Andy Bernard

- The next thing is not always the best thing...3%/100%- Lives best lessons can be taught through athletics - great preparation for life

if it is allowed to be. That is not always pleasant but it is fruitful.

3) Dispelling the myth of retribution/favoritism etc...

Weather• School closure(s) and/or delays does not mean that practices or game are automatically canceled

• No practice will start before normal time on days school is closed. • We will do our best to communicate as quickly as possible (email, twitter, etc.) • Usually no call will be made on events till around 11 a.m.

Senior Nights (Not Week) - Athletics Dept. will initiate planning and will provide scripts. - We cover one (1) carnation/flower for Mothers and will provide information on

how to order.- Senior Poster Boards, must be no bigger than 2’x3’ and will only be displayed

the day of the event OR on Friday, if falling on a Saturday. - Senior Banners - No bigger than 3’X6’ - Those will stay where they are
