Parent Advisory CouncilWhat Is It?
The Parent Advisory Council represents families of Excel Academy who want to enhance the learning experience for all students. The Parent Advisory
Council will foster constructive interaction and provide collaboration and a collective voice for ideas and
concerns, as well as, encourage parent participation in our school.
What You Can Do● Learn More about LCFF (Local Control Funding Formula)
and LCAP● Ask questions● Share your ideas, suggestions, and constructive feedback
by participating in LCAP discussions at the March PAC Meeting.
Excel Academy - Mission & ValuesExcel Academy is a program of a public charter school
which embodies high quality teaching support and parent partnership resulting in the development of individual learning goals in a nurturing environment to ensure
individual student success.
What is the LCAP?LCAP stands for Local Control Accountability Plan. Each charter school must write an LCAP to explain its goals and
strategies for improving achievement for all students. Schools receives extra funding to support students who are low-income, an English learner, or a foster youth. The plan must detail how these funds will be used to increase and
improve services specifically for these students and meet the school’s goals.

Goal #1Raise student academic performance for students in TK-12th grade.
How is Excel Academy Meeting this Goal?1. Maintain or increase grade level proficiency in core content areas for all students by
providing resources to allow them to access and master grade level Common Core State Standards. Core content areas refer to courses in ELA, math, history and science. A student is proficient when they perform at grade level based on state assessments CAASPP and/ or the Smarter Balanced Assessment.
2. Subgroups: Increase the percentage of students with disabilities that are considered proficient in ELA/math CAASPP by 2% each year.
3. Increase the percentage of unduplicated count students that are considered proficient in ELA/math CAASPP by 2% each year.
Goal #2Maintain a high rate of ADA at 95% or higher or increase ADA by 2% each school year until reaching 90% or above.
How is Excel Academy Meeting this Goal?
1. Increase graduation rate by 2% each year.
2. Maintain a 0% expulsion rate.
Goal #3Clearly involve parents and community members in decision making at the program and charter levels.
How is Excel Academy Meeting this Goal?1. Provide connections between the community and school so as to foster
investment in education and provide meaningful transparent communication with all stakeholders.
2. Ensure that parents, students and teachers feel that our schools are providing a safe & positive environment for our students to learn.
Goal #4Ensure that secondary students are on--track to graduate from high school, are college and career ready and students experience academic progress and success.
Goal #5Students have access to materials and/or learning experiences that are aligned to the Common Core standards and to a safe, secure and aesthetically pleasing learning environment.
Goal #6Maintaining the appropriate assignment of teachers who are fully credentialed in the subject areas of the pupils they are teaching.

Dear Students and Parents:
Coming up after Spring Break will be our school’s administration of the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) and the new California Science Test (CAST). ALL TESTS WILL BE TAKEN ON THE COMPUTER this year. Please be sure to note the change in grade levels which will be expected to test; 9th and 10th grade students WILL NOT test, while 12th grade students WILL attend to take the new computer based California Science Test.

Students will be expected to attend both assigned days (one for English and one for Math/Science). (* The exception is 12th grade students who will only attend after lunch for two hours on the first day.)
Day 1- Math/Science: Grades 3, 4, 6, 7, and 11 attend 9:00am-12:00pm. Grades 5 and 8 attend 9:00am-2:00pmGrade 12 attends 12:00-2:00
Day 2- English/Language Arts: All students test 9:00am-1:00pm (*no 12th grade)(All end times are approximate!) TESTING LOCATIONS: Testing must be taken in-person at one of our locations. Unfortunately, there is no test from home option. Your child(ren) may attend any location of your choice. More detailed information, including the exact testing locations and addresses, and a link to register will be sent out at the beginning of February. You do not need to respond to this email, as it is for your information only.
Additionally, at the end of each test, 11th grade students may choose to submit their scores to the Cal State University School System and/or California Community Colleges for the Early Assessment Program (EAP). By doing so, students who show readiness on EAP will be exempt from the English Placement Test (EPT) and/or Entry Level Math exam (ELM) for placement in the Cal State/Community College Systems. Students may earn an exemption from participating in the CSU Early Start program and students may avoid spending time and money on unnecessary tests and classes.
