Pilot Project for 7 stations between Delhi & Howrah

Railway Board Sanctioned 2 Crores rupees for Pilot Parcel Management System (PMS) between 7 stations.

PMS Started at New Delhi Parcel Office on 1st November 2006.

Implemented successfully at Delhi, Kanpur, Allahabad,Gaya, Sealdah and Howrah.

Forwarding note

Weighing parcel electronically and forwarding

note no. is issued. Booking of parcel & luggage

Details of consignment is seen and freight is

calculated electronically.

Progressive Reference Record No. is generated. Bar-coding the process.

Loading On selection of train no. loading potential displays

all parcels available for dispatch. Loading guidance for each package is generated. Parcels are loaded after barcode scanning and

loading summary is recorded.

With the help of PRR no. on the receipt of recipient

goods are delivered. Tracking of parcels through online information

of parcels on internet

Data warehouse

Online database holds the data only for 3 months after

booking. Data more than 3 months old is sent to another

database capable of holding voluminous data, which is

called data warehouse. A separate application has been made to access this

archived data. A person can at any moment of time can

fetch data from data-warehouse for various MIS reports.

Role of CRIS

Strengthening of hardware at central site CRIS. Procurement and installation of hardware and

networking equipments for stations. Local Area Networking at stations. Training of parcel staff and handholding support

for three months at each stations.

Identification of stations and forwarding of data. Arrangement of Parcel Way Bill

stationery/Barcode labels/Electronic weighing

machines/printers. Provision of furniture and electrical points at parcel

offices for LAN and hardware (thin clients/printers). Deputing selected staff for three days training at

CRIS.
