Parasites
By John Fearnhead.
What is a parasite?
• A parasite is a creature living in or on another creature and drawing its food directly from it.
• The parasite that I am about to show you are all invertebrates.
Cymothoa exigua
• Cymothoa exigua, otherwise known as the tongue eating louse.
• Cymothoa exigua eat fishes tongues and takes the tongues place.
• When the fish eats the parasite takes some of the fishes food.
Hookworms
• Hookworms eat things in their host’s gut [Humans can be hosts too].
• Doctors use hookworms to cure some diseases such as colitis.
• This means doctors could give you hookworms to eat!
Botfly
• A botfly lays its eggs in the skin of the cow.• The egg hatches into a larva which eats its
host to grow.• When the botfly is fully grown it eats its way
out.
Conclusion
• I have shown you some parasites but there are many more.
• There is a parasite for every animal.ss
