Q I hear Angelina
Jolie does many of her
own stunts in films
like Salt and The
Tourist. How does she
pre pare?—Patricia Pa-
pero, Culver City, Calif.
A “I just push myself as hard as I can,” Jolie, 35, tells us. “I had one night sitting in the tub with my bruises and a little cut, crying and
thinking, What am I doing? But the worst that can happen is that you get an injury. I’m fearless to a fault—I don’t know where it comes from.” See photos of Angelina in action at Parade.com/jolie

Q Flicka, The Blind Side,
Country Strong—is Tim
McGraw giving up his sing-
ing career for acting?—
A. Higgins, Detroit, Mich.
A Not a chance. “I’m working on a new album that I hope will be out next spring,” says the country crooner, 43. “But I’m going to keep acting, too.
I’ve got bills to pay and three daughters”—with wife Faith Hill—“ which means buying a lot of fan-cy shoes. In March, I start Safe House with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. It’s sort of a CIA thriller. I’m looking forward to killing somebody.”
Q I recently saw the 2001 movie Captain
Corelli’s Mandolin on TV. Did Nicolas Cage
really play the mandolin in it? —Charlotte
Seiple, Hicksville, Ohio
A In fact, he did. “The mandolin was a challenge,” he admits. “I had to attack and conquer it.” Less diffi cult? Opening his mind to the paranormal for Season of the Witch, out Jan. 7—the actor’s 47th birthday. “Superstition is everywhere,” Cage says of its subject matter. “I think anything’s possible.”
Q Stan Lee cre-
ated my favor-
ite superhero,
Spider-Man. If
he could have
a superpower
himself, what
would it be?—
Chuck Mason,
Denver, Colo.
A “I’d want to fl y. I think that’d be helpful, given the price of gas-
oline these days,” says the 88-year-old comic-book legend, who also co-created Iron Man, X-Men,
the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, and the In-credible Hulk. “I could call myself Eagleman—or, if I want to be a villain, Vultureman.”
Q Now that Dakota Fanning is 16,
is she driving yet? If so, what kind of
car does she own (or want)?—Rob
Gil, Oklahoma City, Okla.
A “I have my permit, but I don’t have my license,” the actress tells us. And as far as wheels go, a safe ride is more
important than a swanky one. “I want a normal car that I won’t crash,” she adds. “I don’t have specifi cs. I just
want something I can handle. I’m pretty terri-fi ed of the roads.”
Q Where do they get the mon-
ey to fi nance all those wed-
dings on My Fair Wedding
with David Tutera?—Jacqui
Howard, Pasadena, Calif.
A “Vendors in cities we visit provide their services to promote their businesses on TV and to help make the bride’s dream a re-ality,” Tutera, 44, reveals. “The couples pay nothing. It’s a fantasy. By the time I’m done, their weddings are valued at three-, four-, fi ve-hundred thousand dollars. But the experience, honestly, is priceless.”
Q Watching a sad movie the other day, I won-
dered: Is it diffi cult for performers to see them-
selves or their spouses in dangerous or tragic
situations onscreen?—C. Holt, Atlanta, Ga.
A It can be. “When we saw Rabbit Hole together, Keith [Urban] wept,” says Nicole Kidman, 43, who plays a woman mourning the loss of her young son. “He was totally in shock. He said, ‘It broke my heart.’ Later, he just wanted to talk and talk about it. But I love being able to go to those dark places—I didn’t become an actress just to play the girl next door.”
Lee: Flights of fancy
Walter Scott’s
Tutera: For love and money
Fanning: In the driver’s seat (sort of)
Jolie: No pain, no gain

Walter Scott asks…Alex TrebekHost of Jeopardy!
WS How has the show changed from its fi rst episode
27 seasons ago to its 6000th, which aired in October?
AT At the beginning, it was the intellectual elite who tried out.
Now people with limited formal education are going, “Hey, I
know this stuff—I’m smart, too.” And they succeed! It’s great.
WS How have you changed?
AT I looked at one of my early shows, and I was going a
hundred miles an hour. I’m not pushing as hard these days.
Fans used to challenge me because I was supposed to know
everything. Now they just want to get to know me. I like that.
WS Do you think you could win Jeopardy!?
AT I would do all right in a contest against my peers. [Trebek
is 70.] But a good 30-year-old would clean my clock.

forefathers. After seeing our families over the holidays and hearing stories of long ago, some of us want to learn more. That’s why January is such a popular month for researching relatives on ancestry.com, the largest source of online family histories, with 6 billion records. “Everybody wants to know whose shoulders they stand on and where they came from,” says Anastasia Harman, an ancestry.com genealogist. Among its newest offerings are over 2000 oral histories from immigrants who entered the U.S. via Ellis Island; written applications to West Point from 1805 to 1908; and World War II draft cards for the “old man’s registration”—the 230,000 men between the ages of 45 and 64 who joined up in 1942.

4Trivialize your time.
Thirty-one years after the invention of Trivial Pursuit, games that revolve around knowledge of minutiae are hotter than ever. According to the Toy Industry Association, grown-ups are going mad for board games like Bezzerwizzer (from the German besserwisser, which means “know-it-all”). The game has 20 categories and combines trivia with tactics. Another way to keep your mind sharp and forget about that offi ce inbox: Head to a local bar or restaurant for a game of Team Trivia, a live-points game waged by rival groups. Typically, teams are given the time it takes to play a song to come up with their answers. Never has your knowledge of the cast of Eight Is Enough or the ’86 New York Mets lineup been more useful. (For participating locations, go to teamtrivia.com.)
5Double-date. Think you and your spouse are
just too busy to hang out with other couples? A new study has found that those who go on regular double dates with another pair feel much better about their own relationship, according to Richard Slatcher, assistant professor of psychology at Wayne State University and co-author of the study. “One thing that drives commitment is how much the lives of husbands and wives intersect. When you have a good experience with another couple, it makes you happier, adds something fresh, and reinforces the continued

healthy aspect of being a twosome.” The more time you clock with other couples, the better. “You’re rooting for the other relationship to succeed—and by extension, yours, too,” Slatcher says.
6Look to the stars.
There’s been a worldwide spike of
interest in astronomy, thanks in part to the spectacular photos of distant galaxies coming in from the Hubble Space Telescope. People are fl ocking to observatories in Hawaii, New Mexico, Arizona, and California—or taking advantage of free stargazing nights at local colleges and planetariums. But really, “you don’t have to drive anywhere to stargaze,” says Rick Fienberg of the American Astronomical Society. “There is plenty you can see from your front yard with a pair of
binoculars: Jupiter’s moons, craters on our moon, and star clusters.” (To get started, go to space.com/nightsky.)
7 Catch up with high
school pals. More and more people are having virtual high school reunions on Facebook. All it takes is one person to scan in all those 30-year-old yearbook photos, create a group, and send invites. In no time, word will spread, and people who’ve been out of touch since graduation will be sharing updates on kids and jobs—and admitting to some long-ago crush on that quiet girl in trigonometry. Using the photo-uploading and note-writing functions on the group page, you can enjoy the pleasures of catching up with high school buddies without the cost and hassle of attending a real-life reunion. Think ReclastReclast is a bisphosphonate like
Fosamax,® Actonel® and Boniva.® With
oral bisphosphonate treatments, only
a fraction of the medicine gets to the
bone with each dose, so you have to
take them more frequently.
With Reclast, it’s possible to
significantly increase your bone
mass without taking weekly or
monthly osteoporosis pills. Reclast
is the only once-yearly osteoporosis
treatment, and is given through an
IV by a doctor or nurse for at least
15 minutes.
How It WorksOne annual dose, along with daily
calcium and vitamin D, helps to
increase bone density, protecting and
strengthening your bones.
Reclast is given through an IV. It
bypasses your stomach to go directly
through the bloodstream to the
bones, fortifying them and making
them stronger for an entire year.
What to ExpectThe benefits of Reclast last for a year.
Most common side effects don’t. The
most common side effects include
flu-like symptoms, fever, muscle or joint
pain and headache. Most occur within
1–3 days of treatment and can last up
to 7–14 days. If you’ve taken oral
bisphosphonates in the past, you are
less likely to experience side effects.
Taking a mild pain reliever like
acetaminophen up to 3 days after
treatment may reduce these symptoms.
The Cost The average cost of a Reclast treatment is under $60 if you’ve already paid your yearly deductible. That’s less than the annual cost of other drugs — including generics! As Reclast is an infusion, costs are covered by Medicare Part B, not Medicare Part D.
Talk to Your DoctorOnly your doctor can determine if Reclast is right for you. Ask your doctor about Reclast today.
Prescription Reclast is approved to treat postmenopausal osteoporosis.
Important Safety Information:
You should not take Reclast if you’re on Zometa® (zoledronic acid) Injection because it contains the same active ingredient. Additionally, you should not take Reclast if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, you are nursing, have low blood calcium, kidney problems, or are allergic to Reclast.
It’s important to drink fluids before getting Reclast to help prevent kidney problems. Tell your doctor if you have dental problems because rarely, problems with the jaw have been reported with Reclast. Discuss all medicines you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription drugs, vitamins and herbal supplements. If you develop severe bone, joint, or muscle pain, numbness, tingling or muscle spasms, contact your doctor.
You are encouraged to report negative side effects of prescription drugs to the FDA. Visit www.fda.gov/medwatch or call 1-800-FDA-1088. If you don’t have prescription coverage and can’t afford your medicines, log onto www.pap.novartis.com or call 1-800-245-5356.

10Plan a getaway.
In recent years, taking a “staycation” seemed to many of us like a smart (and frugal) way to use vacation time. Now another trend is gaining traction: the “togethering” trip, a convening of extended family or old friends in one spot. Meet up with your favorite cousins for a week of shows in Branson, Mo.; book a long weekend with your softball league in Cooperstown, N.Y., to tour the National Baseball Hall of Fame; or recruit your college sorority sisters to join you at a yoga retreat. Have little ones? Indoor-water-park hotels are a popular winter destination.

There are great ones for going on a diet (Lose It!); organizing your bills (Pageonce); getting nutritional info (My Family Food); avoiding rush-hour delays (Beat the Traffi c); fi nding the freshest local produce (locavore); and getting the best coupon deals (GeoQpons).
9Work out like a
grunt. Atten-shun! Fitness boot camp is the
new exercise of choice for people wary of gimmicks and expensive gym fees. Led by certifi ed trainers, boot-camp groups meet (anywhere from 55 to 90 minutes) in gyms,
parks, or on basketball courts for a mixture of cardio and strength-training moves. For best results, “campers” work out three times a week for six weeks (total cost: $99 to $499). You may remember many of the exercises—jumping jacks, push-ups, running drills, climbing

UEEN LATIFAH
didn’t begin 2011 by whipping up a New Year’s reso-lution list. There was no piece of
paper scribbled with hopeful re-minders like “Exercise more!” and “Eat six helpings of fruits and vegetables.” Fifteen years ago, she decided that resolutions only set you up to stumble, so she came up with a new plan: Every year, in early December, she starts identifying “pre-resolutions,” things she hopes to achieve by her birthday on March 18. “If I want to trim down or something, I do a little bit here and there,” she says. “That way I don’t have to go cold turkey on New Year’s Day.”
This is vintage Latifah. The immensely popular star—who grew up Dana Owens in New-ark, N.J., the daughter of a po-liceman and a teacher—is known for keeping her own clock, often running hours be-hind schedule yet still managing to get everything accomplished. At 40, she has made her mark in almost every medium: as an award-winning rapper, singer, Oscar-nominated actress, pro-ducer, author of two memoirs, and the driving force behind the Queen Collection, her own line of CoverGirl cosmetics. As she puts it, “My mom raised me not to put all of my eggs in one basket.”
Fans will see her next on Wednesday night, when she hosts the 37th annual People’s Choice Awards on CBS. “The thing I like most about it is that it’s about the fans and their fa-vorites,” says Latifah, who has emceed the show four times be-fore. “It’s the top of the year, so it

Ever since she was a 21-year-old rapper seeking to move into other
markets, Latifah has thought of herself as both a person and a com-modity; she even sometimes refers to herself in the third person (as in “Latifah starred in a number-one movie, and Hollywood realized
Latifah makes money”). Integral to the Latifah brand are her quiet confi dence and her aura of unfl ap-pable, regular-gal calm. “She’s very easy and fun to talk to, a person you never feel awkward around,” says
Dakota Fanning, who co-starred with her in The Secret Life of Bees. But when the two were on set, Fan-ning wondered how she should ad-dress a woman who answers to everything from Day to Latifah to Yo. “I’d hear so many names that I actually asked the director, ‘What am I supposed to call her? What does she prefer?’ ” Fanning recalls. “I settled on La.”
Faced with the same predica-ment, Ron Howard, who directed Latifah in the buddy comedy The Dilemma (in theaters Jan. 14), gives royalty its due. “Queen works hard and makes it fun. People love her,” he says of early reactions to the fi lm. He also marvels at how Lati-fah turned in a key performance as a business-savvy consultant for the auto industry while keeping all of her other enterprises going. “She’s spinning a lot of plates, and she’s fascinated with them all,” he adds. “She gives off this casual vibe, yet there’s all this productivity coming out of her world.”
Latifah, who splits her time be-tween New Jersey, Miami, and Los Angeles, says that in 10 years, she hopes to be “on cruise control, with a couple of kids under my belt.” Is she making a move in that direc-tion? “It’s in the Lord’s hands.” Meanwhile, her overarching goal right now “is just to enjoy life more. I work a lot. I want to make sure I’m living life to the fullest and checking in with me.” Here, she shares her insights about some of the lessons life has already taught her.

ADMIT WHEN YOU’RE IN
OVER YOUR HEAD
“Our record label didn’t fly. I think we were loyal to a fault—we signed all these really tal-ented artists who hadn’t made records yet, we were paying salaries for people working in our offi ce, we were paying all the bills. We sank millions into our company, and we shouldn’t have done that.” Complicating matters, she was personally hit with a huge, unexpected bill from the I.R.S. “We had to say, ‘Enough is enough. This isn’t working right now.’ ”
SILENCE CAN BE GOLDEN
“I’m not one of those people who wake up chatting. I usu-ally don’t want to speak for the first 10 or 20 minutes. And I don’t really want you to talk to me either! Making that little peaceful time at the be-ginning of my day really helps me gear up. I got the idea from doing a talk show, when you’ve gotta talk all day. I realized that I enjoyed the silence.”
FORGING YOUR OWN
PATH CAN BE LONELY
“My parents raised me to stand up for myself. If there was some-thing I believed in, I had to fi ght for it. As a pioneer, sometimes I had to stand alone. You just have to believe in your own ideas.”

including being sexu-ally abused as a child by a babysitter and losing her be loved o lder brother in a 1992 mo-torcycle accident—to share with others how she got through the dark times. “I think people can feel when you’re saying something from the heart, some-thing truthful,” she says. “I don’t know how to do it any differently. Sometimes it ’s just knowing what someone else has been through that strikes a chord, that helps other people get through their lives in a more full way.”
IT’S NOT EASY
BEING QUEEN
Finally, Latifah has some advice for Kate Middleton, as one queen to a future royal: “Make sure you have a sanctuary, because ev-erybody in the world is going to be in your business. He happened to be born a prince; you happened to go to col-lege and meet him. You’re two kids who fell in love. I just hope you have a happy life. And don’t take any-thing personally.”
LOVE THE STATE
YOU’RE FROM
“There’s something about growing up in New Jersey that pre-pares you for whatever you might encounter around the world. We’re not afraid to go places. I met Mike ‘The Situa-tion’ [from Jersey Shore] because we were both on Jay Leno. He lives maybe 15 minutes from me. He was like, ‘If you ever get a fl at tire, call me and I’ll hook you up.’ I love Jersey.”
JOY MAY BE
AS CLOSE AS YOUR
OWN BACKYARD
“I don’t have to take a trip around the world or be on a yacht in the Mediterranean to have happiness. I can fi nd it in the little things, like looking out into my backyard and seeing deer in the fi elds.”
IN CRISIS THERE
IS OPPORTUNITY
“I’ve watched a lot of people in this business kind of freak out look-ing at the economy. I guess if you’re used to having all the money in the world, you don’t see how to make things work in bad times. But if you built things from the ground up, you’re used to creating with less. We saw it coming and looked at it as a time to be creative. We’ve
gotten so much accomplished behind the scenes in the last year—in film, music, televi-sion, Web content, food and beverage, and clothing—that I can’t wait to see things come
to fruition. The good thing about doing what I do is that if it’s not already there, hope-fully I can create it. Maybe I’ll even make [my own drink]—Queen La-tea-fah!”

PARADE Do you get to sleep in on Sundays?Unfortunately, I’ve gotten so conditioned, it’s hard to sleep past 4 a.m. When I’m in town on Sundays, I sometimes go down to the Central Bar in the East Village to watch English football.
But my natural inclination now is to get in the car with my wife and kids and get out of town. I’m like a dog—I look out the window and I’m mesmerized: “Trees!” I guess I’m becoming more of a New Yorker.
What’s in that cup in front of you on Morning Joe?That’s an iced latte, skinny. I have a couple of those. Mika [Brzezinski, his co-host] is a little more addicted—she has a supersized caffeinated drink. The caffeine leaves my system around 4, and I struggle to stay up till 9 each night. At 6, my wife will say, “Don’t leave me! Stay awake!”
What traits does Mika share with your wife, Susan? They’re both tough. They both think I talk too much. And they both plot and scheme against me at all times! There’s a steady stream of text messages between them while we’re on the air. Mika
will turn to me during break and tell me, “Susan says your hair is an absolute mess.”
You wrote a blistering piece on Politico about Sarah Palin in November. Did you hear from her?No. I will say I fl inched when I wrote it, because I know the
personal impact words can have on candidates’ kids and spouses. But I just know she’s not qualifi ed to be president. By the
way, I don’t think she’s going to run. I don’t think it was a coincidence that a lot of that presidential talk came when she was releasing her book. As Newt Gingrich said, “Tell people you’re going to run for president—it helps move books!”
What advice do you have for the incoming Tea Party members? In 1994 we were elected because of [dissatisfaction with] Bill Clinton, and we were seen as overreaching and shrill, so we effectively re-elected Clinton in 1996! If Republicans overreach in 2011, they will re-elect Barack Obama in 2012. They need to focus but make sure they don’t scare little kids and pets. This is the Republican Party’s last chance—not just for me but for the American voters. They will either mean what they say or be swept aside.
In your 2009 book, The Last Best Hope, you favorably compared Barack Obama to Ronald Reagan. Would you still make that comparison today?
Sunday with...
The Morning Joe host on Obama, Palin, what’s in his co ee cup, and who makes him tongue-tied (hint: it’s not anyone in politics)
NINE YEARS AGO, JOE SCARBOROUGH WALKED AWAY
from politics—he was a Republican representative from Florida—and crossed over to the other side: the media. Since then, he has happily confounded expectations. He’s a die-hard conservative who has hosted the
Morning Joe show on liberal-minded MSNBC for more than three years. He’s openly critical of both President Obama and his own party. He’s an avid fan of the Beatles but prefers their more experimental period, not their clean-cut early days. In his offi ce at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, surrounded by Beatles posters and a guitar (he’s also a songwriter), Scarborough, 47, revealed to David Browne why’s he’s anything but a regular Joe.

No, I wouldn’t. Ronald Reagan knew who he was. Barack Obama is still working through that equation politically.
What Democrat do you admire most?Hillary Clinton. She’s doing a great job as secretary of state. I was surprised that the woman we were deriding as an out-of-touch left-wing elitist in 1993 became the hero of working-class Americans in 2008. It was a remarkable transformation. What Beatles songs did you download on iTunes? It was so embarrassing. I have the records and CDs, and yet I went click, click, click and probably downloaded 40 songs. I was so swept away that I downloaded “And Your Bird Can Sing” twice.
Who’s on your wish list of guests who haven’t been on Morning Joe?I want Paul McCartney and Pete Townshend. In Washington, I found myself as a 31-year-old in a room with the president, vice president, and secretaries of state and defense, and I was unfazed by it. But get me around a rock star I grew up with and I have trouble completing sentences.

just good for your waistline—it ben-
efi ts your memory, too. A new study that followed 299 adults for 13 years found that walking six to nine miles a week may stop your brain from shrinking as you age.
“Exercise increases the amount of blood going to the brain,” says lead study author Kirk Erickson, a University of Pittsburgh profes-sor. “This means that more of the important nutrients necessary for
the brain to function are distributed.”
Researchers found that the more partici-pants walked,
the more gray matter they re-tained (though exceeding nine miles a week provided no addi-tional benefits). Those who walked the most had half the risk of developing memory problems as those who walked the least. “Some loss of brain matter is normal with age,” Er-ickson says. “But with increased exercise, the parts of the brain that support memory func-tion—the prefrontal cortex and the hippo campus—are spared. The earlier you start exercising, the better, but it’s never too late,” he adds. “Any amount you do will help.”

This summary does not take the place of talking to your
healthcare provider about your medical condition or
treatment. See full Prescribing Information for complete
product information.
What is the most important information I should
know about ADVAIR DISKUS?
ADVAIR DISKUS can cause serious side effects, including:
1. People with asthma who take long-acting beta2-
adrenergic agonist (LABA) medicines, such as
salmeterol (one of the medicines in ADVAIR DISKUS),
have an increased risk of death from asthma
problems. It is not known whether fl uticasone propionate,
the other medicine in ADVAIR DISKUS, reduces the risk of
death from asthma problems seen with salmeterol.
• Call your healthcare provider if breathing problems
worsen over time while using ADVAIR DISKUS. You
may need different treatment.
• Get emergency medical care if:
- breathing problems worsen quickly and
- you use your rescue inhaler medicine, but it does not
relieve your breathing problems.
2. ADVAIR DISKUS should be used only if your healthcare
provider decides that your asthma is not well controlled
with a long-term asthma control medicine, such as
inhaled corticosteroids.
3. When your asthma is well controlled, your healthcare
provider may tell you to stop taking ADVAIR DISKUS. Your
healthcare provider will decide if you can stop ADVAIR
DISKUS without loss of asthma control. Your healthcare
provider may prescribe a different asthma control
medicine for you, such as an inhaled corticosteroid.
4. Children and adolescents who take LABA medicines may
have an increased risk of being hospitalized for asthma
problems.
What is ADVAIR DISKUS?
• ADVAIR DISKUS combines an inhaled corticosteroid
medicine, fl uticasone propionate (the same medicine
found in FLOVENT®), and a LABA medicine, salmeterol
(the same medicine found in SEREVENT®).
- Inhaled corticosteroids help to decrease infl ammation in
the lungs. Infl ammation in the lungs can lead to asthma
symptoms.
- LABA medicines are used in people with asthma and
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). LABA
medicines help the muscles around the airways in your
lungs stay relaxed to prevent symptoms, such as wheezing
and shortness of breath. These symptoms can happen
when the muscles around the airways tighten. This makes
it hard to breathe. In severe cases, wheezing can stop your
breathing and cause death if not treated right away.
• ADVAIR DISKUS is used for asthma and COPD as follows:
Asthma
ADVAIR DISKUS is used to control symptoms of asthma
and to prevent symptoms such as wheezing in adults and
children aged 4 years and older.
ADVAIR DISKUS contains salmeterol (the same medicine
found in SEREVENT). LABA medicines, such as salmeterol,
increase the risk of death from asthma problems.
ADVAIR DISKUS is not for adults and children with asthma who:
- are well controlled with another asthma control
medicine, such as a low to medium dose of an
inhaled corticosteroid medicine
- have sudden asthma symptoms.
COPD
COPD is a chronic lung disease that includes chronic
bronchitis, emphysema, or both. ADVAIR DISKUS 250/50 is
used long term, 2 times each day to help improve lung function
for better breathing in adults with COPD. ADVAIR DISKUS
250/50 has been shown to decrease the number of fl are-ups
and worsening of COPD symptoms (exacerbations).
Who should not use ADVAIR DISKUS?
Do not use ADVAIR DISKUS:
• to treat sudden, severe symptoms of asthma or COPD
• if you have a severe allergy to milk proteins. Ask your
doctor if you are not sure.
What should I tell my healthcare provider before
using ADVAIR DISKUS?
Tell your healthcare provider about all of your health
conditions, including if you:
• have heart problems • have high blood pressure
• have seizures • have thyroid problems
• have diabetes • have liver problems
• have osteoporosis
• have an immune system problem
• are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is not
known if ADVAIR DISKUS may harm your unborn baby.
• are breastfeeding. It is not known if ADVAIR DISKUS
passes into your milk and if it can harm your baby.
• are allergic to any of the ingredients in ADVAIR
DISKUS, any other medicines, or food products
• are exposed to chickenpox or measles
Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you
take including prescription and non-prescription medicines,
vitamins, and herbal supplements. ADVAIR DISKUS and
certain other medicines may interact with each other.
This may cause serious side effects. Especially, tell your
healthcare provider if you take ritonavir. The anti-HIV
medicines NORVIR® (ritonavir capsules) Soft Gelatin,
NORVIR (ritonavir oral solution), and KALETRA® (lopinavir/
ritonavir) Tablets contain ritonavir.
Know the medicines you take. Keep a list and show it
to your healthcare provider and pharmacist each time you
get a new medicine.
How do I use ADVAIR DISKUS?
Do not use ADVAIR DISKUS unless your healthcare
provider has taught you and you understand everything.
Ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist if you have
any questions.
• Children should use ADVAIR DISKUS with an adult’s help,
as instructed by the child’s healthcare provider.
• Use ADVAIR DISKUS exactly as prescribed. Do not use
ADVAIR DISKUS more often than prescribed. ADVAIR
DISKUS comes in 3 strengths. Your healthcare provider
has prescribed the one that is best for your condition.
• The usual dosage of ADVAIR DISKUS is 1 inhalation
2 times each day (morning and evening). The 2 doses
should be about 12 hours apart. Rinse your mouth with
water after using ADVAIR DISKUS.
• If you take more ADVAIR DISKUS than your doctor has
prescribed, get medical help right away if you have any
unusual symptoms, such as worsening shortness of
breath, chest pain, increased heart rate, or shakiness.
• If you miss a dose of ADVAIR DISKUS, just skip that dose.
Take your next dose at your usual time. Do not take 2
doses at one time.
• Do not use a spacer device with ADVAIR DISKUS.
• Do not breathe into ADVAIR DISKUS.
• While you are using ADVAIR DISKUS 2 times each day,
do not use other medicines that contain a LABA for
any reason. Ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist if
any of your other medicines are LABA medicines.
• Do not stop using ADVAIR DISKUS or other asthma
medicines unless told to do so by your healthcare provider
because your symptoms might get worse. Your healthcare
provider will change your medicines as needed.
• ADVAIR DISKUS does not relieve sudden symptoms.
Always have a rescue inhaler medicine with you to treat
sudden symptoms. If you do not have an inhaled, short-
acting bronchodilator, call your healthcare provider to have
one prescribed for you.
Call your healthcare provider or get medical care
right away if:
• your breathing problems worsen with ADVAIR DISKUS
• you need to use your rescue inhaler medicine more often
than usual
• your rescue inhaler medicine does not work as well for you
at relieving symptoms
• you need to use 4 or more inhalations of your rescue
inhaler medicine for 2 or more days in a row
• you use 1 whole canister of your rescue inhaler medicine
in 8 weeks’ time
• your peak fl ow meter results decrease. Your healthcare
provider will tell you the numbers that are right for you.
• you have asthma and your symptoms do not improve after
using ADVAIR DISKUS regularly for 1 week
What are the possible side effects with ADVAIR DISKUS?
• ADVAIR DISKUS can cause serious side effects,
including:
• See “What is the most important information I should
know about ADVAIR DISKUS?”

Mira My dad’s a type-2 diabetic, and he used to not be in control of his
blood sugar. One time he had a big bowl of pasta fagioli—pasta with beans, a Neapolitan delicacy—and his blood sugar got extremely high. He turned a different color and got very faint. That was a wake-up call for me: that I needed to help him stick to his treatment plan. Paul So she makes a salad as big as the Bronx! Cooking is a huge part of our lives, but now we do things differently, like this lasagna. Mira Dad always sings Neapolitan songs while he cooks, and it’s really fun. Paul “O Marenariello,” which means “the little sailor boy,” is good for singing while mak-ing marinara sauce. It’s really a sailor’s sauce. It was created in Naples on little fi shing boats. Mira Speaking of songs, “O Sole Mio” was actually written about Dad’s aunt when she was a little girl. Paul The family Sorvino lived next to the lyricist Giovanni Capurro. After a rainstorm, he saw my aunt sitting in a window with beautiful long blond hair and big blue eyes, and he said , “The sun comes from this child’s face.” “O Sole Mio” means “my sun.”

Some of my read-

the Oracle of
Delphi! Here’s a
selection of recent unanswer-

anyway:
As I travel the highways, I notice
signs that read “Deer Crossing.”
How do the deer know to cross
at those signs?

Why are the Three Musketeers
always depicted with swords?
Why not muskets?

Why do the eyes of life-size

“Well, I finally did it. I finally decided to enter the digital age and get a cell phone. My kids have been bugging me, my bookgroup made fun of me, and the last straw was when my car broke down, and I was stuck by the highway for an hour beforesomeone stopped to help. But when I went to the cell phone store, I almost changed my mind. e phones are so small Ican’t see the numbers, much less push the right one. ey all have cameras, computers and a “global-positioning” somethingor other that’s supposed to spot me from space. Goodness, all I want to do is to be able to talk to mygrandkids! e people at the store weren’t much help. ey couldn’t understand why someonewouldn’t want a phone the size of a postage stamp. And the rate plans! ey were complicated, confusing, and expensive… and the contract lasted for two years! I’d almost given up when afriend told me about her new Jitterbug phone. Now, I have the convenience and safety ofbeing able to stay in touch… with a phone I can actually use.”
e cell phone that’s right for me. Sometimes I think the people who designed this phoneand the rate plans had me in mind. e phone fits easily in my pocket, but it flips open andreaches from my mouth to my ear. e display is large and backlit, so I can actually see who iscalling. With a push of a button I can amplify the volume, and if I don’t know a number, I cansimply push one for a friendly, helpful operator that will look it up and even dial it for me. eJitterbug also reduces background noise, making the sound loud and clear. ere’s even a dialtone, so I know the phone is ready to use.
Affordable plans that I can understand – and no contract to sign! Unlike other cell phones, Jitterbug has plans that make sense. Why should I pay for minutes I’m never going to use? Andif I do talk more than I plan, I won’t find myself with no minutes like my friend who has a prepaid phone. Best of all, there is no contract to sign – so I’m not locked in for years at a timeor subject to termination fees. e U.S. – based customer service is second to none, and thephone gets service virtually anywhere in the country.
Call now and get a FREE GIFT. Try Jitterbug for 30 days and if you don't love it, just return it. Why wait, the Jitterbugcomes ready to use right out of the box. e phone comes preprogrammed with your favorite numbers, and if you aren’t ashappy with it as I am, you can return it for a refund of the purchase price. Call now, the Jitterbug product experts are readyto answer your questions.
IMPORTANT CONSUMER INFORMATION: All rate plans require the purchase of a Jitterbug phone and a one-time set up fee of $35.00. Coverage and service is not available everywhere. There are no additional fees tocall Jitterbug’s 24-hour U.S. Based Customer Service. However, for calls to an Operator in which a service is completed, minutes will be deducted from your monthly balance equal to the length of the call and any call connected by the Operator, plus an additional 5 minutes. Rate plans do not include government taxes or assessment surcharges. Prices and fees are subject to change. Savings are based on marketing materials from nationally available cellular companies as of June, 2010 (not including family share plans). The full price of the Jitterbug Phone will be refunded if it is returned within 30 days of purchase, in like-new condition, and with lessthan 30 minutes of usage. IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT BONIVA(bon-EE-va) ibandronate sodium 150-mg tablet
What is BONIVA?
BONIVA, a bisphosphonate, is a prescription medicine used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, characterized by weakening of the bone.
Taken once a month in tablet form, BONIVA may stop and reverse bone loss in most women. It has been clinically proven to help build and maintain bone density, which can help reduce fractures.
Want to know more?
This summary is not everything you need to know about BONIVA. It does not take the place of talking with your health care provider about your
condition or treatment. For more complete information, talk to your health care provider or pharmacist.
Visit myboniva.com or call 1-888-MyBONIVA for the complete Prescribing Information, which includes the Patient Information.

restriction or dif culty swallowing
• have low blood calcium (hypocalcemia)
• cannot sit or stand for at least 60 minutes
• have kidneys that work very poorly
• are allergic to BONIVA or any of its ingredients
See Patient Information for complete list.
Tell your health care provider if you:• are pregnant or plan to become pregnant

What are the possible side effects of BONIVA?
BONIVA may cause:• Pain or trouble swallowing
• Heartburn
• Ulcers in stomach or esophagus
Common side effects are:• Diarrhea
• Pain in extremities (arms or legs)
• Upset stomach
Less common side effects are:• Short-term, mild u-like symptoms, which
usually improve after the rst dose
Stop taking BONIVA and call your health care provider right away if you have pain or trouble swallowing, chest pain, or very bad heartburn or heartburn that does not get better. Follow dosing instructions carefully to decrease the risk of these effects.
Rarely, patients have reported allergic and skin reactions. Contact your health care provider if you develop any symptoms of an allergic reaction including
skin rash (with or without blisters), hives, wheezing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. Get medical help right away if you have
trouble breathing, swallowing, or feel light-headed.
Rarely, patients have reported severe bone, joint, and/or muscle pain starting within one day to several months after beginning to take oral
bisphosphonate drugs. Contact your health care provider if you develop these symptoms after starting BONIVA.
Rarely, patients have reported serious jaw problems associated with delayed healing and infection, often following dental procedures such as tooth extraction.
If you experience jaw problems, contact your health care provider and dentist.
This summary is not a complete list of side effects. For a complete list, consult your health care provider or pharmacist.
How should you take BONIVA?
You must take BONIVA exactly as instructed by your health care provider.• Take rst thing in the morning, on the same day each month.
• Swallow whole (do not chew or suck) with a full glass (6 to 8 oz) of plain water (not sparkling or mineral). Do not take with tea, coffee, juice, or milk.
• After you take BONIVA, remain standing or sitting for at least 60 minutes before you eat, drink, lie down, or take any other oral medications, including calcium, vitamins, and antacids. Some medicines can stop BONIVA from getting to your bones.
• If you miss a monthly dose and your next scheduled BONIVA day is more
than 7 days away, take one BONIVA 150 mg tablet in the morning following
the day that you remember. Do not take two 150 mg tablets within the same
week. If your scheduled BONIVA day is only 1 to 7 days away, wait until your
next scheduled BONIVA day to take your tablet. Then return to taking one
BONIVA 150 mg tablet every month in the morning of your chosen day,
according to your original schedule. If you are not sure what to do if you
miss a dose, contact your health care provider, who will be able to advise you.
What is the most important information about BONIVA?

1. Country Strong soundtrack (CD/$13)
This one’s jammed with
goodies. Gwyneth
Paltrow’s countrifi cation
on behalf of her latest
fi lm has been much
scrutinized, but her
woebegone wail on “Me and Tennessee,” a duet
with Tim McGraw, may make you a believer. Her
fellow thespians Leighton Meester and Garrett
Hedlund strut their stuff equally well. And let’s
not forget Nashville royalty like Ronnie Dunn
and Sara Evans—who’s
fantabulous on the rousing
“A Little Bit Stronger.”
4. Despicable Me(DVD/$30)
We love a villain
whose heart melts
when he meets
three little girls. Add
robot cookies, yellow
“minions,” and a
splendid vocal cast,
and you’ve got an
animated fi lm that
the whole family can
enjoy again and again.
5. Gryphon: New and Selected Stories (fi ction /$28)
A feast of affecting
encounters from the
author of the celebrated
The Feast of Love.
Charles Baxter’s indelible
characters—most of them
unarmed “against the
infi delities of the future”—
include a man determined
to buoy his
orphaned
nephew
(by faking
positive
horoscopes
for him) and
a mysterious
substitute
teacher who veers well
away from the lesson plan.
6. I Used to Be Fat (MTV/Wed., 10 p.m. ET/PT)
Tired of weight-loss stories
that are all about extreme
competition? This series,
which each week follows
a new teen struggling
to drop pounds, informs
and inspires precisely
because it proves that
real-life success comes
only in small, hard-earned
increments.
7. Southland (TNT/Tues., 10 p.m. ET/PT)
In the sea of current cop
shows, Southland remains
the grittiest and most
compelling. Missing out
on its stellar ensemble
cast and documentary-like
camerawork would be
nothing short of criminal.
2. Blue Valentine (fi lm/Dec. 31)
Ryan Gosling has described
this poignant drama as a
sort of companion piece
to The Notebook, in that it
shows what can happen to
love after the honeymoon
period. Fair warning: The
couple played by Gosling
and Michelle Williams
have a tumultuous union
marked by sex, anger, and
disappointment. But you’d
be hard-pressed to fi nd
two fi ner performances.
3. Dog, Inc. (nonfi ction/$26)
John Woestendiek’s
outstanding look at dog
cloning explores what
goes down when science,
personal loss, and fi nancial
opportunism collide.
It is also a larger, more
melancholy take on the
wild demands we now
make on man’s best friend.
