Supplies Needed / PrecautionsSupplies:• Tissue paper• Scissors• Fuzzy sticks pipe cleaners
Precautions:• Be careful when
handling scissors.• Pipe cleaners are sharp
on the ends.
How to make a paper flower1
1. Choose 5 sheets of tissue paper.
2. Stack the sheets of tissue paper one on top of the other.
3. Cut a triangle pattern on the two short sides of the tissue paper with scissors.

4. Fold the stacked paper like accordion turning the tissue paper over after each fold (about 1 inch wide).
5. Wrap the pipe cleaner tightly around the center of the folded tissue paper.

6. Twist the short end of the pipe cleaner around the long end.
7. Pull the folded pieces apart until you’re satisfied with your flower.

Grading up: Categorization- Choose specific colors for tissue paper. Example: Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Purple
Grading down: Detection/Registration-
Draw lines on the tissue paper to cut.

Grading down: Fine Motor Control (Pinching)-Make a loop to pull the pipe
cleaner through instead of having to twist the pipe cleaner

Use larger sheets of tissue paper

Therapeutic Benefits• Psychosocial: Making paper flowers can improve a client’s self esteem and self worth providing them with a sense of accomplishment when they complete the activity.
• Rehab: Following the steps to make a paper flower can help a client process verbal or written instructions in order to perform daily living tasks such as cooking or dressing. It can also help a client’s fine motor control and tactile perception by having them manipulate small soft object into a specific shape.
