Presidents Report 2020/2021

After last season we were hoping for some normality to return, which it did mostly. The season has been a successful one for the competition as a whole and Panthers again have been prominent. The devastating Wooroloo bushfire unfortunately impacted many people and our thoughts are with those who were affected. For those lucky not to be impacted, it gave us pause to appreciate what a great community we live in. The volunteer and career fire fighters in our region did amazing things to save many homes and properties. Whether it was strangers housing pets and animals, lending equipment or accommodating friends and neighbours needing shelter, the sense of community spirit makes us all proud to be part of this fantastic hills community. Unfortunately Covid 19 reared its head again impacting, albeit briefly on the season. The season finished with finals being played was a relief. It appears the Covid 19 pandemic affected the competition this year with many clubs, including us recording lower than normal registrations. Panthers fielded 21 teams this season, of which 13 made it to finals with an amazing 9 of those progressing through the Grand Finals within their respective divisions. What a fantastic result. At the time of writing this report the HRBA has announced MVP winners for the various divisions, Panthers players received 3 MVP awards, and 3 x MVP runner up awards, congratulations to those players, they are acknowledged in the following report Once again it was great to see so many familiar names on the coaches and managers list this season. Unfortunately due to personal circumstances David Watkins was unable to continue his work in the coaching mentoring role this season, we hope that senior Panthers coaches were able to offer support during the season. We are in discussion with David regards next season and hope that he can return as we feel this remains a critical factor in our success. As always, again special thanks to Anne Batten and Kathleen McGowan for the mountain of work that they do every season, this year has been no exception. Bec Noakes has been busy all season keeping our Facebook up to date helping to keep our members informed. Quality people are the reason that clubs like ours are successful on and off the court. Our Committee is a dedicated group who have no agenda other than the desire to see kids playing team sports in a supportive and fun environment. I would like to thank them all for their effort throughout the season and being instrumental in maintaining and building our club culture.

I would like to also acknowledge and extend our thanks to all our Coaches, Managers, helpers and Players. Minutes Annual General Meeting of the

Panthers Basketball Club

1.

Annual General Meeting of the Panthers Basketball Club scheduled on 23 September, 2020 at 7pm, Mundaring Lesser Hall, Jacoby Street, Mundaring.

Welcome: Phil welcomed all in attendance and thanked them.

2. Attendees:- As per attendance register. Quorum present with 15 voting members.

4. Acceptance of previous minutes: Motion: That the minutes from the Panthers Basketball Club AGM held on the 9 March 2019 are a true and accurate record. Moved: Phil Preston Seconded: Anne Batten Carried

8 President’s Report

8.1 President’s Report presented as documented in 2020 Annual Report. Phil acknowledged all members who volunteered their time as coaches, team managers, committee members and the difficulties that the past few months have presented. Applauded the club’s financial position and decisions which has enabled the Club to provide fees relief for the coming season. Motion: That the President’s Report for 2020/21 be accepted. Moved: Phil Preston; Seconded: Adam Fox; carried.

10.1 Nomination for President: Anne Batten nominated Phil Preston for President. Seconded: Neridah Zlatnik. Phil accepted his nomination as President. With no other nominations Phil was appointed President. All in favour. Nomination for Vice President: Phil Preston nominated Neridah Zlatnik for Vice President. Seconded: Chantal Kitchin Neridah accepted her nomination as Vice President. With no other nominations Neridah as appointed Vice President. All in favour.

Nomination for Secretary: Robyn Fitall self-nominated for the role of Secretary in writing in advance of the meeting. Seconded by Phil Preston. With no other nominations Robyn was appointed Secretary. All in favour. Nomination for Treasurer: Anne Batten nominated Jenelle Taylor for Treasurer. Seconded: Ken Rose. Jenelle accepted her nomination as Treasurer. With no other nominations Jenelle was appointed Treasurer. All in favour. Nomination for Registrar: Anne Batten self-nominated for the role of Registrar. Seconded: Neridah Zlatnik. With no other nominations Anne was appointed Registrar. All in favour. Nomination for General Committee: Paula Hill self-nominated for general committee member in writing in advance of the meeting. Seconded by Neridah Zlatnik. Rebecca Noakes self-nominated for general committee member. Seconded by Anne Batten. Rebecca Noakes nominated Rachael Bacon for general committee member. Seconded by Rahni Bacon. Rachael accepted the nomination. Anne Batten nominated Adam Fox for general committee member. Seconded by Kate Preston. Adam accepted the nomination. Neridah Zlatnik nominated Chantal Kitchin for general committee member. Seconded by Anne Batten. Chantal accepted the nomination. Isaac Oliver self-nominated for general committee member. Seconded by Adam Fox. With no other nominations and with all nominations meeting Constitution all nominees were appointed as general committee members.

Phil closed meeting with a thank you to Kathleen McGowan for her many years of service to and support of the Club and committee. An official recognition of her service will be made at the Club AGM and Windup in 2021.
