Scott Music will present holiday performances at Barnes & Noble Bookstore on December 14th, 2018.

Students will sing, dance, and play instruments. Each grade level has a performance time.

Please have children present at the performance area 5 minutes before their performance.

A portion of money from the items purchased during our event will go to the Scott Music Department.

During phonics, the students will continue to apply the phonetic principles they have learned thus far in order to read and write, both familiar and unfamiliar words. The students will continue to develop a growing base of sight words by locating, reading and spelling familiar words on a daily basis. In English and Spanish Language Arts, we will leap into non-fiction texts in order to: identify the main topic of a text, use text features to locate key information, and asking and answering questions about key details in a text.

These relationships allow the students to learn and work with each other in a positive way. Throughout the month of December, we will remain focused on building upon the many skills students have learned the past three months.

PRINCIPALMESSAGEDecember is here, and with it come cooler temperatures, fading daylight, and the end of a fantastic first semester of the 2018-2019 school year. It is, also, an exciting and busy time as families prepare to celebrate the diverse holidays that take place around this time of the year. Please continue to support your children in their school success by keeping routines consistent (meals, daily reading, bedtime, etc.). Adequate sleep, for example, increases kids’ attention span, boosts learning, and improves mood, which is a perfect recipe for academic success.

As you know, we have already had a couple of snow days. Please continue checking the news and our social media for severe weather and school closings. Aside from the pretty snow, cold weather can also brings illnesses to school. Please remember to keep your child home in case of situations that include temperature of 99.6 degrees Fahrenheit or above, severe cough that disrupts student’s learning, diarrhea, and vomit. If these situations arise, always remember to call the school to report your student’s absence so it can be marked excused. If your student needs to take medication at school, remember that an adult must deliver all medication (prescription or over the counter, including cough drops) to our school nurse, Mrs. Fletchall, with the appropriate paperwork.

Mrs. Fletchall is the only adult in the school authorized to administer medication. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us ensure the safety of all children.

One way to prevent illness during the cold months is to dress children appropriately with coats, hats, gloves and scarves. We invite you to visit our Lost and Found to check for missing items. It is located right at the entrance of the school. Unclaimed items will be donated to a charitable organization as the Lost and Found becomes full.As you prepare for winter break, please keep in mind that school is in session until Friday, December 21, and that classes resume on Tuesday, January 8. At Scott, we pride ourselves for having won the award for the highest attendance in the whole district 11 out of 16 times the award has been given, and that we have received this honor the past six consecutive months. Therefore, we will take and monitor attendance as we continue working as a school community to ensure that our scholars are in school and ready to learn.

A heartfelt thank you goes to teachers, parents, and students for a wonderful first half of the school year. We look forward to what the rest of the year has in store for us, and we wish you a safe, restful holiday season, and a happy new year.

This month 1st graders will also going on the Polar Express train ride. Students will stay at school on Friday, December 7th and leave Scott at 4:15pm. We are asking parents to be at Scott at 7:45 p.m. to pick up students.

El 5to grado hizo un experimento científico. Ellos diseñaron en un avión un artefacto de seguridad para que el piloto (un huevo) resistiera el impacto al estrellarse. El Sr. Babiera dijo:“Desafortunadamente el Teniente “Eggbert” no sobrevivió y se convirtió en un huevo revuelto. El Teniente no se percató del impacto ya que estaba cubierto con papel verde.

En matemáticas, continuaremos trabajando en el desarrollo de la fluidez de la suma hasta 10, la resta como un problema desconocido de suma (relación entre la suma y la resta), problemas verbales de restas, las estrategias de descomposición para la resta y, finalmente, el desarrollo de la fluidez en la resta hasta 10

En ciencias y estudios sociales, hemos aprendido sobre la fuerza magnética, mecánica, gravitacional y sobre nuestra comunidad.

Donaciones de diciembre

Somos muy afortunados de tener miembros de la comunidad que donen a nuestros estudiantes y familia un árbol de Navidad y la ciudad de Santa. Todos los nombres de los estudiante serán ingresado en una rifa. Estaremos rifando las decoraciones, las luces y el árbol de navidad. Si a a los

estudiantes les gustaría comprar más boletos para la rifa, cada boleto adicional tendrá un costo de .25 ¢. Tomaremos nombres el jueves 20 de diciembre. Llamaremos a los padres ganadores para que vengan a recoger el árbol el viernes. Muchísimas gracias al Sr. Gary Lister y los Edwards por su donación.

MENSAJE DE LA DIRECTORADiciembre ha llegado y, con él, las bajas temperaturas, la luz que disminuye, y el fin de un fantástico primer semestre del año escolar 2018-2019. Es, también, una emocionante y atareada época en la cual las familias se preparan para celebrar las diferentes fiestas que tienen lugar en este momento del año. Por favor continúen apoyando a sus hijos en el éxito escolar manteniendo las rutinas consistentes (comidas, lectura diaria, hora de dormir, etc.). El sueño adecuado, por ejemplo, aumenta el período de concentración, estimula el aprendizaje, y mejora el estado de ánimo, lo cual es una receta perfecta para el éxito académico.

Como ya saben, hemos tenido dos cierres por mal tiempo. Por favor continúen estando pendientes de las noticias y de nuestras redes sociales para anuncios de mal tiempo y del cierre de nuestras escuelas. Además de la belleza de la nieve, el frío también puede traer consigo enfermedades a la escuela. Por favor recuerden dejar a sus hijos en casa cuando se presenten situaciones que incluyan temperaturas de 99.6 Fahrenheit o más, tos severa que interrumpa el aprendizaje del alumno, diarrea, y vómito. Si estas situaciones ocurren, siempre recuerden llamar a la escuela para reportar la ausencia de sus estudiantes para que se considere una falta justificada. Si sus estudiantes debes tomar medicamentos en la escuela, recuerden que un adulto debe entregar todo medicamento (incluyendo aquellos con o sin receta médica, incluyendo

pastillas para la tos) a la enfermera de la escuela, la Sra. Fletchall, con los debidos documentos. La Sra. Fletchall es el único adulto en la escuela autorizado para suministrar medicamentos. Les agradecemos su cooperación ayudándonos a garantizar la seguridad de todos los niños.

Una forma de prevenir enfermedades durante la temporada de frío es vistiendo a los niños apropiadamente con abrigos, gorros, guantes y bufandas. Los invitamos a que visiten nuestro Sección de Objetos Perdidos en caso de que se les haya embolatado algo. Ésta se encuentra a la entrada de la escuela. Los artículos que no se reclamen se donarán a organizaciones de caridad a medida que la sección se llene.

Mientras se preparan para el receso de invierno, por favor tengan en cuenta que estaremos en sesión hasta el viernes, 21 de diciembre, y que las clases reanudarán el martes, 8 de enero. En Scott, nos enorgullecemos por haber recibido el trofeo a la mejor asistencia de todo el distrito 11 de los 16 meses que se ha otorgado, y de que hemos recibido este honor los pasados seis meses consecutivos. Por consiguiente, tomaremos y monitorearemos la asistencia mientras continuamos trabajando como comunidad escolar para garantizar que nuestros estudiantes estén en la escuela y listos para aprender.

Un sincero mensaje de agradecimiento para el personal escolar, los padres de familia y los estudiantes por una maravillosa mitad del año. Esperamos con emoción lo que nos depara el resto del año, y les deseamos una segura y reposada temporada de fiestas, y un feliz año nuevo.

Estimadas Familias del 1er grado de Scott, Estamos muy contentos de ver cómo los estudiantes de primer grado están trabajando juntos para construir relaciones positivas y significativas con sus compañeros. Estas relaciones permiten que los estudiantes aprendan y trabajen entre sí de una manera positiva. A lo largo del mes de diciembre, nos mantendremos enfocados en seguir desarrollando las muchas habilidades que los estudiantes han aprendido en los últimos tres meses.

Durante la fonética, los estudiantes continuarán aplicando los principios fonéticos que han aprendido hasta ahora para leer y escribir, tanto palabras familiares como desconocidas. Los estudiantes continuarán desarrollando una base cada vez mayor de palabras de uso frecuente al ubicar, leer y deletrear palabras familiares diariamente. En inglés y lenguaje de artes en español, leeremos textos de no ficción para: identificar el tema principal de un texto, usar las características del texto para ubicar información clave y hacer y responder preguntas sobre detalles clave en un texto.

Estaremos aprendiendo acerca de celebrar tradiciones en distintas partes del mundo, invenciones históricas y posibles soluciones.

Este mes los estudiantes de 1er grado también irán de viaje en el tren Polar Express. Los estudiantes se quedarán en la escuela el viernes 7 de diciembre y se irán de Scott a las 4:15 pm. Estamos pidiendo a los padres que estén en Scott a las 7:45 p.m. para recoger a sus estudiantes.Tómese el tiempo para que su hijo lea 15-20 minutos por día en casa.
